United States, the largest fast food nation, now spends more than 134 billion dollars on MacDonald?s and Burger Kings each year. Despite the expenses, most still choose fast food to be part of their every day lives. Here?s an example that will show you why Mac Donald?s is a millstone to the future of our community. Supposedly you pay a visit to fast food restaurants five times a week, and you always order a "combo meal", consisting of a burger, French fries, and a drink. This will cost you at least 5 dollars per meal, and 25 dollars per week. In a year, you will be under the pressure of more than 1300 dollars! And that?s only if you paid a visit for lunch from Monday to Friday. Now, if a person goes to MacDonald?s every breakfast, lunch, and dinner of everyday of the week, it will add up to an average of 5475 dollars a year! That is too much to pay for, just for the sake of shorter line ups. Instead of looking for a quicker, more convenient way of life, we should donate our money on more essential things that this world can?t do without. Fast food is a financial burden for society, and we must get rid of it for the grater good. In the recent years, fast food chains have added salads to their menus, so that you can also include vegetables and other healthier kinds of nourishment. It?s a new choice and a big step to take toward the physical conditions of our community. But what about the rest of the menu? Hamburgers and French fries are

It is nearly impossible to turn on the television or radio and not be hit with advertisements introducing the latest fast food trend – fresh and healthy food options. More often, the media bombards us with slogans such as Subway's common pitch to "eat fresh" or McDonald's million–dollar advertisement campaign to try the new fruit and walnut salad. Attention has made an abrupt turn from the greasy, deep–fried originals at the fast food chains to more health conscious food choices. Even a documentary of a man named Morgan Spurlock made headlines and won awards when he ate McDonald's three times a day for a month and publicized the effects through a movie called Super Size Me. However, the selection of varying food groups is limited, and food restaurants are beginning to recognize the problem. Gary Hirshberg, a parent frustrated with the food selection his family had while on the road for vacation, started a store called O'Naturals that now has four different locations in California and Boston. "We call it fast food with a mission,'" said Hirshberg, who envisions his healthy restaurants shaking up the restaurant business (Andrew Martin). Subway is another popular restaurant that draws their attention to the fresh side of the market. However, there are few fast food places, like Subway, that can claim their food to be fresh. Many of the well–known fast food vendors claim to offer fresh salads, fruits, and sandwiches; but "freshly packaged does not necessarily mean freshly made" (Blogspot). Many would argue that the latest craze with the addition of healthy fast food isn't due to obesity or quality freshness, but simply expanding the market to increase profit. A high percentage of Americans eat fast food, and an even increasing number of Americans are becoming more aware of their dietary health. Therefore, to increase sales to those individuals who normally wouldn't splurge on a double cheeseburger, fries, and soda; fast food corporations have expanded their market. Benefits of Fast Food Restaurants In the United States, the popularity of fast food restaurants is growing every day. Now days, people can buy a whole meal in fast food restaurants for between 6 to 7 dollars. People consider that fast food restaurants make their life easy and uncomplicated. For instance, if two parents was both working late and their kids was home with dinner not cooked, they could stop at any fast food restaurants to order food for dinner before heading home. The popularity of fast food restaurants is growing because of three main causes: the low cost, the fast service, and how fast food restaurants are available anywhere. One of the most important causes of fast...show more content... For example, most people that I know have to wake up very early in the morning to cook breakfast, make lunch, get ready for school or even get ready for work, and get to school or work on time. People divide their time between their jobs and their responsibilities. For instance, before my mom heads to work she takes me to get breakfast and drops me off at school. In the morning my mother takes me to McDonalds in Waianae. Usually in the morning it is always busy but the service is so fast. For example, when I go in side of McDonalds to order I only wait in line for about 2 to 3 minutes and wait for my meal between 4 to 5 minutes. Another example is when my sister is running late from work and she still has to get dinner done. She stops at Jack in the Box to get meals for her family. My sister said when she goes into the restaurant to order the cashier is ready and waiting for her to begin her order. Then in just seconds her whole meal is done and ready to go. Therefore, the fast service is popularity because in this high paced society every minute counts and every second that is wasted in waiting and eating a food is a transaction lost or money shot up in the air. Finally the last cause is how fast food restaurants is available everywhere thousands of people go to. Now days, many kind of fast food restaurants are available in the malls and strategic places. The international branded restaurants such as KFC and McDonald grow quickly from one

America is known as the fattest country in the world. Is fast food the culprit? According to the article, "F as in Fat 2005," America's obesity rate in 2005 was a whopping 60%. Many people believe that this is due to the increasing popularity in fast food. It is much easier to go through a drive through and pick up a meal than making the food yourself. When eating out, people are more likely to eat more than when they cook. Meals at fast food and restaurants have become popular, in America the size of each meal is significantly bigger than any other country. According to Christina Sarlch, author of "Guess How Many Calories Are In A Typical Fast Food Meal" the amount of calories in a fast food meal is a gouging 1100 calories with a drink .The average number of calories needed for a person is 2000–2500 calories . Split between 3 meals that averages out to 666.67–833.33 calories a meal. Of course not many people follow that suggested calorie intake. Fast food is unhealthy and does not provide the necessary nutrients needed for a daily diet, however Mcdonald's, a fast food empire claimed in a 2004 lawsuit against them that fast food can be a part of a healthy diet. The court ruled that the plaintiffs would have a serious claim if they could prove that eating fast food for every meal is dangerous for the person and their health. Morgan Spurlock, writer, director, producer, and star of 2004 documentary Supersize Me set out to prove that fast food is dangerous for a person's health. The documentary follows Morgan on his 30 day challenge of only eating fast food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Through Morgan's challenge his weight skyrockets, his health declines and feels terrible all the time. Many people believe that fast food companies are to blame for America's obesity but the individual must take responsibility for what they put into their bodies instead of blaming fast food companies for their unhealthy eating habits .The documentary explores the idea that people should avoid eating fast food because Fast food, although more convenient and easier is worse for you than making your own meals. Fast food leads to many health risks and is not a good substitution for traditional meals. People should avoid eating

To me getting fast food is a time saver and it's also a money eater. It saves time because you order and the food is cooked in under five minutes and it's something that's easy to eat in a small time. When people go on brakes they tend to go straight to a fast food restaurant and eat without rushing because the service is in a fast pace. But over time it consumes a lot of money out of people's paychecks. The more and more people eat fast food on a daily basis, the faster and faster their money starts to decrease and it affects most badly. So yes I do believe it can help many people in a way but it has a cause and effect on their health and savings. But why, why does it impact so many severely? Is it because most people just like the way it processes or is it because it saves time for them to move on to do other things? Its very hard to decide but the only way you can end the effect to me is to change the process of how they target people at an early age. Nowadays they push and motivate kids to go get a happy meal from McDonald's because it has a toy to go with it. Kids do less physical activities daily because they been fed with all these calories from different restaurants over their childhood. It makes them obese and it slows down their generation by making them lazy to do anything. As I continue with my topic, many celebrities push unhealthy foods towards the world. They endorse these companies

Therefore, as we have seen, the popularity of fast food is spreading rapidly among many people due to the following three main reasons: good taste, convenient time, and price. Personally, working for a fast food restaurant for a brief moment in my life, I can attest to this. Marketing also plays a big part to more people eating fast food. Fast food has been an extremely evident food supplier in the past 10 years, so I have decided to investigate further into the fast food world. I am looking into the "battle" between fast food and healthy food, and why fast food is so cheap compared to healthy food. There's something about fast food, I have just been so passionate about it, and have always wondered what's in fast food and why is it so inexpensive. I feel like fast food ingredients and prices should be expressed to the public, in which why fast food products are sold for so cheap. The question is, why take in so many bad calories and the answer is because it is easier. There has been in an increase in fast food establishments in the last two decades and the percentage of obesity has gone up as well (Schlosser). Obesity or weight gain occurs when the body has taken more calories than it can release and many fast food meals just have too many calories for any one person to excerpt. (Schlosser). Almost 300,000 people die every year from being obese and even though fast food is not the only reason for obesity it does contribute to the epidemic (Schlosser). "The American population study Cardia suggests that frequent fast–food consumption is positively associated with weight gain and risk of insulin resistance" (Stender). The calories are also accompanied by high fat content, sugar and lots of salt. Way too much of a "good" thing can be very harmful. Some food and color additives have been proven to induce allergic reactions, cause cancer, asthma, and birth defects even after they were approved for food use (Foundation, G. C.). For example, monosodium glutamate commonly referred to as MSG, is most often found in Chinese food. MSG can cause headaches, nausea, drowsiness, rapid heart rate, and chest pains (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 1995). Nitrites are another kind of food additive found in cured meats like hot dogs, bacon, and sausages. In 2006 a study found that people who regularly consume cured meats had a 71 percent greater chance of contracting lung disease than someone who does not (Daniells, S. 2006). The first step needs to be a desire to understand how the food you normally eat affects your health. A health crisis is often the motivation to examine the dietary choices you make every day.
The media has stories everyday regarding the obesity epidemic in this country. Development of diabetes, heart disease and cancer will shock most people into rethinking what they are eating everyday. This is due to the financial and emotional pressures of food insecurity and low–wage work, lack of access to healthcare (Levine,2011). The foods we choose to put into our bodies are chosen for many reasons. They are chosen from our influences of our social class, cultural differences, social context and settings, meal patterns, psychological factors, the focus on cost and too much more. Also contributing to this is time. Working multiple jobs, night work and not having down time or time to yourself is associated with choosing and preparing healthy foods. A lot of people eat fast food regularly. It has become a way of life for a lot of people, and I am no exception to this. I never really paid attention to the actual details of fast food, but recently I started to wonder who was the best fast food restaurant. To answer this, I compared the service quality, the price and the food quality from Chick–fil–A, McDonald's and Burger King. The staff at Burger King was okay in terms of manners. They weren't rude, but they could have been more focused. They are absolutely terrible with their time. The first–place winner in the service category is clearly Chick–fil–A. They are consistently nice and quick. Second–place goes to Burger King. Good service is a must have for returning customers, but it's not entirely what draws people to a certain fast food place.
Price
The thing that draws most people to a particular fast food place is the bargain that they think they're getting. Going to a restaurant to buy 15 individual items and 15 meals to compare prices is insane. So instead I found online charts that had the prices (not including tax) for Chick–fil–A, McDonald's and Burger King to compare instead. The food I'm looking at are two fast food staples: The chicken nugget and the fry. The Chick–fil–12–piece nugget meal contains: 12 nuggets, a medium drink and a medium fry. This will run you about $8.59. The individual prices for
