How to Be A Good Student

To become a success in life, we all need to learn to become a good student in every aspect of life. Becoming a good student takes much work and self–discipline. There are many ways that a student can stand out from the rest of the class. These good students are distinguished by their attitude, intellectual skills, consciousness, and achievement.

Attitude is primarily a genuine desire to learn and the will to do hard academic work to achieve understanding. It is also shown by how well you apply yourself even to subjects in which you have little interest and how much you can achieve even when a teacher's style is not what you are used to. Intellectual skills is (S–V Agr) another importantaspect of becoming a good student. This skill includes the ability to read and understand, intelligent use of resources, mathematical and logical skills, efficient study habits, and the ability to communicate clearly and fluently. Intellectual skills include time management, exam strategies, study strategies, and goal setting.

Consciousness, or awareness, is another helpful aspect of becoming a good student. The good student must be aware of their (agr) surroundings and know what is going on in the world around them. We must strive to relate what is happening around us to what we are learning. This should be important to us because we should care about what is going on politically, academically, socially, and spiritually. Being aware and paying attention is a good trait to continually learn and apply.

Achievement is demonstrated by successful application of understanding. This aspect includes using correct and confident knowledge, effective communication, and continuanceing of education through out your life. Achievement gives you a sense of accomplishment and meaning. To become a good student, this must be a goal that you wish to accomplish.

Some adolescents try to self–medicate with alcohol and drugs to compensate for flashbacks and major emotional disturbances.

Many children or adolescents are afraid to talk about their traumatic experiences, especially if close relatives are involved. They may even feel extreme guilt over their failure to prevent the traumatic event.

It is important for the children that have experienced trauma to relive the event. They may not be able to at first but as time progresses and the child comes to understand the full perspective of what happened, it will allow them to grab hold of the experience and deal with it in a way that works for them. To refer to the "Myths ofChildhood" video which contained a group of children that had been on a hijacked bus, the children took some time, I believe the trauma was still affecting them in their twenties. They had to deal with the situation and the trauma so that when they walked down the street and heard a noise like a gunshot they wouldn't instantly panic and be revisited by old traumatic events. But all of the children that were exposed to the trauma recovered slightly quicker or slower due to their temperaments, personality and support they were all individually given.

My Child

Wednesday, July 19th, I had a chance to observe carefully an infant for about half an hour in my psychology class at Santa Monica College. The infant, Ali Osman, a healthy, playful boy appears to be of Middle Eastern origin. He is 15.5 months old, 32" tall and weighs about 24 lbs with brown curly hair, dark brown eyes and fairly tanned skin. There were several kinds of toys like blocks, dolls, and automobiles in the room. However, when he just came in, he was immediately drawn to the dolls with intense interest and focus. Even though there wasn't any way to measure his heart rate or brain wave, I could easily tell how interested he was by the way he gazed, touched and played with the dolls. Ali is quite a friendly kid, he is not afraid to be with strangers proven by the fact that he could interact very comfortably with me, my classmates, and other babies. However, when there were some unfamiliar things happening (like when the new baby twins came in or when someone made a scary face to him), he always looked for his mother and ran toward her as described in proximity–seeking behaviors (Berger 226). He is a representative of secure attachment by showing that he had no problem with being away from his mother and exploring on his own (Berger 228). It was my tenth birthday. I woke up that day overly excited for my age to finally be in the "double digits." I didn't know that birthday would be one I'd never forget and turn out to be a day that changed my life forever. I come from your regular, working class family. My parents have been together since they were teenagers and they had two kids, myself and my younger brother, Taylor. My parents did (and still do) everything possible to make sure my brother and I were happy. I was also lucky enough to have my dad's mother, my grandmother, who would also do anything to make sure we were happy. I remember being at my grandma's house as a child and watching her make us breakfast, sitting in the poor lit kitchen, around a country–style table. Street children live in the streets without their families. Each child has to learn how to survive alone, since no adult takes responsibility of them. For the purpose of his paper and to protect the adolescent privacy lets call her Regina. Regina is a fourteen–year–old adolescent female of Africa American descent. She is above average in height and carries a very shy and nonchalance deposition. She is a very attractive young lady and does above average work in her school setting. I went on to ask her about school and how she felt about it and the relationships that she has gathered while being there. She was open and forward about school. She didn't care for it too much. She believed that it was more of a fashion show that didn't charge admission than an institution of learning. My Experience Working With Children

As my experience working with children grows, I would like to gain the skills necessary to run a preschool program. I have worked primarily with infants and toddlers in the past few months, which has become a new focus of mine. Working with such young children allows me to have a productive impact on their cognitive development. This opportunity has been a great encouragement and I hope to run an infant–toddler program within a larger school. My more immediate goals are centered around gaining experiences in different facilities. By exposing myself to different programs and their unique styles, I will be able to see how different procedures, like those for resolving conflict, work for children. Learning to read is an on going process. Aesthetic and Efferent reading are the two types of reading a student can do. Aesthetic reading is when people read for their own enjoyment and to make their own visuals and interpretations in their head. But after a year and half, I felt it was time for me to move on and find a job. After I left Indiana Bible College, I did the whole random job thing. I was a nanny, worked in a shoe store, a grocery store, and finally ahotel. When I started working in the hotel industry, I found that I absolutely loved it! I met people from all walks of life; from the business man to the trucker and even to the traveling family who were just seeing what the road had in store for them before them. During my time working at the Days Inn & Suites, my manager encouraged me to go back to school and consider majoring in hotel management. So, that's what I did. During that time, I was going to do Hotel Management but then I realized that it would limit me to one occupation of hotels or resorts. Then I started thinking, why not go for Human Resources? Children develop cognition through two main stages that Jean Piaget theorized. The stages run from birth and infancy to school age children. Sensorimotor is the first stage and goes from birth to about the age of two. This stage implies that the children learn about the environment they live in and they learn this through the reflexes and movements they produce. They also learn that they are separate people from their parents and they can say goodbye to them and know they will come back. The second stage is called the preoperational stage. During this stage of development, children will learn how to incorporate symbols to represent objects. This is also the beginning of learning the alphabet and speech. The child is still very much egocentric at this point in time, but with the help of understanding educators, the child will grow appropriately onto the next stages of development. Some times i had wished i was an only child. Perks of me being an only child i would never have to deal with friends crushing on my siblings, and plus I wouldn't ever have to share my room. Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibility and difficult decision making. You always have your child's best interest at heart, but sometimes your child may disagree with the rules you have set down. That is why, I believe, the perfect parenting style is democratic. That always worked on me, so hopefully they will pick up that trait. Another example of the democratic parenting style is when your teenager wants to get a piercing or a tattoo. This subject is surprisingly easy for me to make rules upon. I would never tell my child not to get a piercing, but I also would not give them consent. I know what it is like to have a mom who says no most of the time to everything. With my children, I do not want to have to say no because that will make them want to do it even more. As long as I found the piercing or tattoo to be age appropriate and small, I would not mind making an adjustment to their wishes as long as they made adjustments to mine. There are many negative effects to spanking, even beyond the physical hurt and mortification, there is long–lasting emotional pain. Spanking has been linked to low self esteem, depression, masochism, and even psychological distress.
