C
ongratulations to SBR member Michael Hohls of Newbury Park, who was the winner of PCA’s Fall Raffle. His prize is a 2014 50th Anniversary Edition 911 plus $25,000 in cash! Read all about his good fortune starting on page 14. We look forward to seeing more of Michael and his new Porsche at future events.
Congratulations also to the SBR members who were presented 2013 year-end awards at the Zone 8 Banquet in Rancho Mirage on January 18th. Dick Douglass took 1st place in the Concours Street Class 2 – all open 356s, and Mike Furnish took 1st place in the Autocross Class SS04 with 110 points. As I recall, Dick Douglass and Mike Furnish also won their classes in 2012. Kenny & Tara Brundrett entered their 1987 928 S4 in the on-site Z8 Concours and won first place in the Unrestored Division. Congratulations to all of you, and thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for these competitive events. Our members are still talking about our January trip over the MLK weekend to Carlsbad and Temecula wine country (see page 16). John & Jeanne McNair have organized these delightful January multi-day trips for the past three years. I want to personally thank them for all the time they spend in researching hotels, restaurants and points of interest, and for creating many wonderful memories for all of us who attend these events. Many friendships get established over these weekend
FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK John Alfenito
O
kay, let’s talk about winning. If you attended the January 4th Camarillo Breakfast, then you already know the story of PCA Member Only Raffle winner Michael Hohls. Michael has been kind of an “inactive” SBR member for a few years since he hasn’t owned a Porsche for a while, but as one of three Grand Prize winners in last December’s PCA drawing, Michael will soon have his very own 50th Anniversary Edition 911 (as pictured on the cover) and $25,000 in cash! The full story (and photos) begins on page 14.

I did a little figuring and calculated Michael Hohls’s odds of winning the PCA drawing were 2 in 16,500. He bought two tickets at $50 each and came up a big, big winner. I volunteered AUSPUFF FEBRUARY 2014
trips since we have lots of time to interact with other members and find common interests. The McNairs also organize the monthly R.U.F. (Retired & Unemployed Folks) events, which are always well attended. These R.U.F. outings combine driving fun with educational opportunities. Participants learn a lot about California history on these weekday excursions. John & Jeanne are both active members on our Board of Directors, so please take the time to thank them for their many contributions to our club. We’re also looking forward to a very exclusive tour of the Pindler Collection in February, a private, post-World War II car collection. Then, we’ll take a spirited back-road drive to the Palms Restaurant in Carpinteria where we’ll have fun sharing our grilling techniques with other members before enjoying a delicious meal. Steve Kaller, who has organized this fun-filled day for us, is also SBR’s Treasurer. Steve donates countless hours keeping our financial books in order, overseeing tax preparation and creating monthly financial reports for our board. Thank you, Steve, for all that you do for the club! Last, I want to thank all of you for your contributions this past year to our 2013 charity, the Gold Coast Veteran’s Foundation. We held a raffle at our Concours d’Elegance in October and put on a silent auction at our Holiday Brunch in December, both to raise funds. We also donated the net proceeds from our Grape Harvest Tour in November and from our January MLK trip to Carlsbad to bring SBR’s total contribution to $6000. We will present a check to the Executive Director of the GCVF at the Camarillo breakfast meeting in February. Don’t forget your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day!
to be his new best friend. He said he’d consider it and get back to me. But, I digress. If you look at page 13 in this month’s Auspuff, you’ll see that as part of SBR’s 50th Anniversary celebration, we’re having our own raffle. First prize is a Fast Lane Travel Treffen vacation (for two) in Germany! Second prize is a trip (for two) to the Porsche Sport Driving School in Alabama! Third prize is a new set of tires for your Porsche. These are “big ticket” items. Sound good? All righty then...I did a little more figuring, and your chances of winning one of the three major prizes in our 50th Anniversary raffle are 3 in 500 (only 500 tickets will be sold). Of course you could buy more than one ticket, too. Each one is $100. Seems like pretty decent odds to me. I have a feeling this raffle is going to sell out very quickly. I offer this information as a kind of public service because I don’t want anyone to miss out on what appears to be a golden opportunity to get up close and personal with...winning.

Come early (open at 7:30 a.m.) and take advantage of abundant, no-hassle parking. Sample the breakfast offerings from Panera Bread or Johnny Rockets. CONVOY TO COUNTRY WESTERN COUNTRY SATURDAY & SUNDAY, MARCH 15 & 16, 2014
EXPLORE UNIQUE CALIFORNIA HISTORY AT THE HOME OF THE “BAKERSFIELD SOUND” THE COUNTRY WESTERN MUSIC MADE FAMOUS BY BUCK OWENS & MERLE HAGGARD THEN, TOUR THE LITTLE KNOWN BUT STRIKINGLY SIGNIFICANT COLONEL ALLENSWORTH STATE HISTORIC PARK Join your fellow SBR members on an exploration of two unique California historic sites! Our first destination on Saturday, March 15, via exciting and scenic back roads will be THE BUCK OWENS’ CRYSTAL PALACE in Bakersfield, a shrine to the brand of country music made famous by Mr. Owens and his band, The Buckaroos. We will enjoy a fabulous show and multi-course dinner at The Palace after touring the museum dedicated to Country Western music and artists.
Col. Allensworth
Sunday morning we will have breakfast at our hotel and then travel to the COLONEL ALLENSWORTH STATE HISTORIC PARK, which is shrouded by the eerie feeling of a ghost town. The location was the experimental community occupied by African-Americans after the Civil War up through the 1930s. Allensworth was the first African-American to attain the rank of Lt. Colonel during the Civil War, and his efforts at this site were intended to create a self-sustaining community for those seeking freedom and independence from the remnants of a slave society. After lunch on the premises, we will begin our return trip home.
The two-day adventure includes lunch Saturday, the tour of the Buck Owens’ museum, dinner and show at The Crystal Palace, Sunday breakfast, tour of the Colonel Allensworth State Historical Park, lunch at the Colonel Allensworth Park and SBR activity fee, all for only $107.00 per person! You must book your own hotel room individually by calling the Hilton DoubleTree Hotel (661-323-7111) by February 13, 2014, in order to get our special group rate of $99.00 plus tax. Please mention the Porsche group when reserving your room. Your reservation form and check must be received no later than February 27, 2014. No refunds after March 4th.
CONVOY TO COUNTRY WESTERN COUNTRY Please complete and mail this form with your check to Howard Rubenstein, PO Box 4855, Thousand Oaks, CA 91359 no later than February 27, 2014. No refunds after March 4th.

SBR IS PLANNING A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
O
O GI BARBARA RE
I
t all started 50 years ago. On June 15, 1964, a group of Santa Barbara Porschephiles secured a charter from the Porsche Club of America which permitted them to separate from the Los Angeles Region to form a new Santa Barbara Region of the PCA. This hardy group of about two dozen visionaries has evolved and grown into a club of over 1,200 primary and associate members. This year, we are going to celebrate that birth with a series of events that will make its own history!
You can feel the excitement building as you read in this issue of Der Auspuff the announcement of a very special raffle drawing. The three fabulous prizes will capture your imagination and your dreams of winning any one of them. The odds of winning are very good. Only 500 tickets will be sold – your chance of winning is 3 in 500! For a contribution of $100.00 per ticket, the lucky winner of the first prize will receive a Fast Lane Travel European Adventure of seven days duration, including airfare, for a total value of approximately $20,000.00 (see flier on page 13 for details). The second and third prizes are of substantial value as well.
Porsche Club of America Santa Barbara Region Celebrating 50 Years
The drawing for the raffle prizes will take place on July 19, 2014, at the catered luncheon to be held at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort in Santa Barbara. This celebratory event will be preceded by a club drive on State Street, through the San Marcos Pass into Solvang and then back again to Santa Barbara. We anticipate that the Mayor of Santa Barbara and California State representatives will attend the luncheon. Certificates of Recognition, honoring SBR’s anniversary and the region’s achievements, will be issued. We are hoping to secure appearances by local celebrities as well. Still more – Porsche Club of America national officers will also be joining us that day. In the background, soft, live music will enhance the ambience along with a display of our Porsches on the lawn facing the Pacific. What could be better? Past National PCA and SBR President Burt Misevic is creating an original painting to honor our region. It will be unveiled and displayed for the first time and offered for purchase at the July 19 luncheon. Numbered and autographed litho copies of the artwork will also be available. Our world-class Der Auspuff editor, John Alfenito, has created a striking poster (at right) incorporating an update to our region’s original logo. The poster and a limited number of signed copies will also be unveiled and offered for sale.

An SBR committee is creating a Souvenir Journal that recaptures the personalities and events that shaped our region. This special edition publication contains pictures and narratives of our history. Each decade of our club’s existence is introduced by a thoughtful and moving tribute authored by those who have lived the experience. These essays provide a heartwarming recollection of the movers and makers of years past. Join in the celebration! Check out the fliers accompanying this article. Sign up for the July 19 festivities and buy your raffle tickets NOW. Remember, only 500 tickets will be sold, SO DO NOT DELAY. Just like so many of our monthly events, this opportunity will quickly be sold out! DER

Our drive will continue through the Santa Ynez Valley, eventually returning to downtown Santa Barbara and the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort. We will display our Porsches on the lawn along Cabrillo Boulevard and feast on a marvelous late lunch. We’ll be joined by state and local officials and, hopefully, by a couple of local celebrities. The drawing for the incredible raffle prizes will be conducted after the meal. There will be a number of door prizes, but we are most excited about the inaugural display of an original work of art painted by our own Burt Misevic that will reflect the region’s glorious past, present, and future. In addition, a limited number of signed and numbered copies of the artwork will be avilable for purchase, as well as copies of the poster created by Der Auspuff Editor John Alfenito honoring the day of celebration.
Full details and further information will be provided to those who register. The cost for the entire day, including the breakfast and lunch, is $40 per person. Complete the registration form below and send with your check (payable to PCA/SBR) ASAP.

Michael has been buying “a couple” of tickets to the Member Only Raffle for several years. In fact, two years ago, he sent his check in a little too late, and the raffle had closed. However, this year, PCA decided to award additional prizes as the threshold of entrants increased. As it turned out, enough entries were received to award three grand prizes of 2014 50th Anniversary 911s and $25,000 in cash! One can only assume that this will have a very positive effect on next year’s ticket sales. But let’s get back to Michael Hohls, our very lucky winner. Michael, as it turns out, has been without a Porsche for several years. He’s been saving to buy one, but his schedule as a pilot leaves him with little free time, and the Porsche has not been at the top of his priority list. His being Porsche-less also explained why none of us had met him. He’d not been to any meetings because he no longer had his Porsche.
Our winner, Michael Hohls of Newbury Park, with SBR President Doreen Pankow
Well, now he will. Many, many decisions lie ahead for Michael. He told me he’s not even driven a newer generation Porsche, but he’s eager to find out all about them. Keith Goldberg invited him to visit Rusnak Porsche Westlake because a new 50th Anniversary Edition 911 just came in, allowing Michael to see exactly what the possibilities are for his new car. And yes, Michael does get to “order” the car to his specifications. He can select the color, for example, and make selections from among a long list of options. The 50th Anniversary Edition comes very well-equipped, and its limited-edition status insures its special standing for years to come. An example of the car is featured on this month’s cover.

Caravan To Carlsbad STORY BY JEANNE MCNAIR PHOTOS BY NICOLAS LIAKAS
W
ebster’s dictionary defines a caravan as a group of travelers passing through hostile territory. Indulging in a little poetic license, one could call the 67 PCA/SBR members who met on January 17 to embark on our weekend trip to Carlsbad a true caravan. After all, we had to transverse the “hostile territory” of the congested 405 freeway in order to get to our destination. But, as with every aspect of our 7th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend getaway, including the beautiful summer-like weather, we found nothing to dread in the quick, two-and-a-half hour trip to Carlsbad. Our hotel, the Carlsbad Inn and Beach Resort (directly across from the beach), afforded us with beautiful views and three spectacular sunsets. Friday’s early arrival allowed everyone some free time to explore the beach and the quaint Carlsbad Village located a few blocks from the hotel.

We gathered for our welcome dinner on the large patio of Norte restaurant, which is on the same property as the AUSPUFF FEBRUARY 2014
hotel. We all enjoyed a convivial evening catching up with old acquaintances and welcoming members new to our overnight trips. On Saturday morning, now with 68 in number in 36 cars, we departed for the Temecula wine region. Despite a few miscues in directions (thanks to Mapquest), everyone arrived on time at our first destination: the boutique Doffo winery. We were directed by owner Marcelo Doffo to an outside picnic area with stunning views of the rolling Temecula hills, covered with vineyards on one side, and part of Mr. Doffo’s extensive vintage motorcycle collection mounted on the wall behind us. The motorcycles on the outside of the building are his unrestored ones; inside the barrel room there were dozens of fully restored vintage bikes for everyone to see and admire. We were introduced to Mr. Doffo’s wife and several of his children, who work in what started as Mr. Doffo’s “retirement project,” and now is a thriving family business. In addition to tasting four of Doffo’s wines, we were served Argentinian empanadas with Mrs. Doffo’s specially prepared chimichurri sauce. Our next stop was at the much larger Thornton Winery, one of the first to
open in the now-thriving Temecula wine appellation. The winery is situated in an elegant, French-style chateau overlooking the graceful vineyards of the Temecula valley. We were given a tour by the winemaker with a brief summary of the Methode Champenoise used in creating Thornton’s award-winning sparkling wines. Here we enjoyed a delicious lunch and were treated to a tasting of four wines including a champagne and an unusual dessert wine: A Kiss of Chocolate. The latter is a red wine blended with rich chocolate. We also reveled in the balmy 80-degree weather. Saturday afternoon and evening, group members on their own explored the beach towns of Encinitas and Solana Beach, and visited such interesting venues as the Miniature Engineering Museum in Carlsbad and the California Surf Museum in Oceanside. Others traveled to Julian for some fun Porsche driving and later dined at a wide range of local restaurants, many within walking distance of the hotel. Sunday morning, we were treated to the view of thousands of runners on the street in front of our lodging who were participating in the Carlsbad Marathon. After some initial concern about our egress from the hotel, which crossed the Continued on page 18
Caravan To Carlsbad Continued from page 16
path of the runners, we successfully and quickly exited in groups of five or six cars at a time (thanks to Brian Rubino’s rapport with the police sergeant in charge of traffic control!). Our destination was the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park located in Carlsbad. This beautiful 27-acre parcel was once part of a 2,538-acre working rancho owned by Leo Carrillo. Although some of us remember Leo Carrillo in his role as Pancho, sidekick to the Cisco Kid on 1950’s TV, we soon learned that this was a small part of Mr. Carrillo’s success. He performed in vaudeville and then moved to the “talkies,” and was in more than 80 full-length movies with many famous actresses and actors. Descended from some of early California prestigious families, he grew up near Olvera Street in Los Angeles and spoke many languages. We were given docent-led informative tours of the property and were lucky enough to see several of the resident peacock flock. Descendants of the original six started by Mr. Carrillo, these beautiful birds now number more than 80, including Jack, the lone albino. We toured the hacienda, stables, barn, pool, cabana and cantina. Many of the residence buildings are constructed in the gracious southwestern style with tile roofs and thick plastered walls.
Our weekend event planners John & Jeanne McNair

This delightful oasis with the lush flora is now situated in a developed suburban area, but while you’re on the ranch, it is easy to imagine the wonderful retreat it must have been for the Carrillo family. Our final group activity on Sunday was our farewell dinner in Carlsbad Village at Vigilucci’s Cucina. We were treated to a specially designed menu complete with our club logo, offering a selection of five delicious entrees, and we were served by a very attentive and professional staff. Judging by the lively conversation and camaraderie, everyone had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our annual January Porsche retreat. =

THE GIMMICK RALLY
saturday, APRIL 26, 2014 We’ll meet at Rusnak Porsche Westlake at 8:00 a.m. for a light continental breakfast and enjoy some time eating and socializing with our fellow PCASBR members. We will leave promptly at 9:00 a.m. on the first leg of what promises to be a hilarious Gimmick Rally, designed and written by PCA/SBR Gimmick Rally Masters Jerry & Pam Lasnik. Our drive will take us through familiar territory as well as over some surprising out-of-the-way roads, not far from where many of us live. The rally will take just over two and a half hours of scenic and fun driving. No racing on this rally...only careful powers of observation and clever thinking will put you in the winner’s circle. The top three teams, as determined by the highest number of correct answers, will be our winners and receive prizes. You will need a driver in a Porsche, a navigator, and a clipboard with pen or pencil. Water, sunglasses, and sunscreen may come in handy, too. Our rally will end at Conejo Creek Park North at Creekside in Thousand Oaks, located behind the Thousand Oaks Library. There we’ll be treated to a wonderful, catered BBQ lunch of tri-tip and chicken, green salad, potato salad, beans, garlic bread, and drinks. The cost for this great day of fun, including breakfast, a scenic and enjoyable rally, a delicious lunch, drinks, and SBR activity fee, is only $29.50 per person. This is always a popular event, so sign up early. We only have room for a limited number of participants at the tables in the park. THE TECH REPORT
PORSCHE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM BY CHRIS ANDROPOULOS Santa Barbara Region Tech Editor
A
regular feature of this column is highlighting Porsche’s engineering achievements, and this month’s article is no exception. In its typical pioneering fashion, Porsche developed an electronic tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for its 956 race car and adapted it to the 959 supercar in the mid-1980s. This RDK (the German acronym for “tire pressure control”) system was offered as an option on the 928 from 1989. Engineers determined that an early warning system for alerting the driver of a slow or sudden loss of tire pressure would be a godsend to pilots of either of these autobahn missiles. The early TPMS system was ahead of its time, but its complexity and requirement of special wheels to accept the requisite tire pressure sensors meant that it was discontinued before the 928 itself was also shelved. This month’s column will focus on the newer generation RDK/TPMS system first offered as an option and later as standard equipment on the Cayenne and 987/997 sports cars.
22
DER
As outlined in the tech article about tires in the April 2012 issue of Der Auspuff, chronically low tire pressure is the leading cause of tire blowouts. Driving with tires underinflated by as few as 4 PSI can decrease fuel mileage by almost 25%, according to US Department of Transportation statistics. A majority of modern drivers are not accustomed to normal tire pressure checks, which are vital as tires can lose 1-2 PSI per month due to normal leakage of air molecules from the tire bead and valve stem. The safety and fuel economy implications of AUSPUFF FEBRUARY 2014
low tire pressures led the DOT to mandate that all light passenger vehicles sold in the US were required to be equipped with a TPMS system for the 2007 model year. Unsurprisingly, Porsche pre-empted these requirements by several years with the availability of its optional secondgeneration RDK/TPMS system for the 2003 Cayenne and 2005-2006 997-series 911 and 987-series Boxster and Cayman models. Many automakers utilize an indirect method of TPMS that uses the existing wheel speed sensors for the ABS/traction control system to detect deviations in wheel speed caused by an underinflated tire. Porsche’s system is a direct TPMS that uses individual pressure sensors mounted in each wheel to monitor the exact tire pressures. The sensors are mounted inside each wheel and fastened by a small screw threaded into the base of each valve stem. The Porsche TPMS valve stems are metal and typically silver in color, versus a traditional black plastic and rubber valve stem. Each sensor unit features a built-in battery and transmitting antenna, along with pressure and temperature sensors. Each sensor transmits a high-frequency radio signal to a corresponding receiver antenna, one of which is mounted in each wheel housing. The receiver antennas are each connected to a central control unit, which processes the data and sends it to the display in the instrument cluster.
During normal driving, each of the pressure sensors measures pressure and temperature every 3 seconds, yet only transmit this data approximately once per minute to prolong battery life. If a pressure loss of 2.9 PSI within one minute is detected, the sensor will measure and transmit pressure data much more
rapidly to monitor the rate of air leakage from the tire. A “soft” or Stage 1 warning in white text to “add air” will appear in the instrument cluster if any of the tire pressures are detected to be more than 2.9 PSI low, and the orange TPMS warning light will illuminate. If this warning appears, it is recommended to check the air pressure of the indicated tire as soon as possible and determine the cause of air leakage.
A “hard” or Stage 2 warning in red will appear if any tire(s) are 5.8 PSI low or more. If this “flat tire” warning comes on while driving, it is imperative to slow down and stop as soon as possible to inspect the indicated tire. Unfortunately, Porsche eliminated the spare tire from the 987/997 sports cars, so it is up to the driver to determine if it is wise to use the supplied “fix-a-flat” tire sealing compound and air compressor from the toolkit in an attempt to seal the leak, or to simply wave the white flag and call a roadside assistance service such as AAA. Tires that are temporarily sealed should only be driven at speeds of 50 MPH or less and only for 50 miles maximum! Cayenne and Panamera owners with a penchant for getting their hands dirty can use the included tire compressor to inflate the collapsible “donut” spare tire or give up and call AAA. Continuing to drive on a severely underinflated tire can lead to a tire blowout or wheel damage, so heed the red “flat tire” warning message if it appears! It should be noted that the nominal tire pressures that are displayed in the instrument cluster while driving are for informational purposes only and should not be used as a basis for adjusting the tire pressures. The “true,” temperature-
Porsche’s second generation TPMS system (used through 2008 987/997 models and through 2006 on Cayennes) is a welcome safety feature, but it can be a bit finicky at times. Porsche literature states that the batteries in the tire pressure sensors should last between 5-10 years with an average life of 7 years, but realworld experience has shown 5-6 years to be the norm. When the voltage of one or more of the sensor batteries is low enough, it will fail to consistently transmit tire pressure information, and a dashed line (---) will appear in the instrument cluster display where the pressure for the corresponding tire is usually indicated. The TPMS warning light and a “TPC inactive” message will be displayed. If this occurs, it will be necessary to bring the vehicle to a qualified facility with a PIWIS or equivalent scan tool to determine the cause. When the technician interrogates the TPMS system, it will display an estimate of the remaining life in months of each of the sensor batteries. Often the sensor in question will have “0 months” displayed. Even if a suspect sensor shows life remaining in the scan tool display, it is recommended to replace it as soon as possible, especially if it is 5 years old or more. The remaining life is a calculated value and is not always accurate. The sticking point of TPMS sensor replacement is that the tire has to be dismounted to remove and replace the sensor, and then the wheel and tire need to be re-balanced. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to preemptively replace any accessible pressure sensors that are more than 4-5 years old if tires are being replaced due to wear. This can be a significant expense given the fact that Porsche’s current list price is close to $175 per sensor, but it is better than the alternative of the inconvenience and expense of removing the tires again at a later date to replace the sensors when they completely fail. Inexpensive aftermarket sensors are becoming more readily available, but their
function and reliability are not yet proven in the eyes of your author. After a TPMS sensor is replaced or if any of the positions of the wheels are changed (during a tire rotation on a Cayenne or if the front or rear wheels of a 987/997 are inadvertently switched from side to side during tire replacement) the TPMS must re-learn the position of each of the sensors in order to display the tire pressures. The learning process is initiated via the control stalk for the vehicle’s onboard computer. In the “TPC” menu, the correct wheel diameter is selected, and
the learning process begins. The TPMS warning light will remain illuminated and no tire pressures will be displayed during the learning process, which can take up to 30 minutes of driving. After the TPMS control unit determines the sensor positions, the tire pressures will be displayed, and the warning light will turn off. If the system does not reinitialize after 30 minutes, it is recommended to bring the car to a Porsche specialist to determine the cause.
The 2009-and-up 987/997, 2008-and-up Cayenne, and all Panamera and 981/991 models utilize Porsche latest generation TPMS, which is vastly improved over the earlier system. This latest TPMS rapidly re-learns wheel position after a wheel or tire change, usually within a mile or two. There are separate settings for fulland partial-load tire pressures to allow for accurate monitoring when the tire pressures are increased to compensate for a full load of passengers and/or cargo. (You always remember to do this; right?) If the vehicle is stationary for a long period of time while idling, the sensors also cease to transmit to preserve battery life. The pressure sensors used in the latest TPMS systems are not compatible with those of the earlier version. A consideration with all TPMS systems is that many pressure sensors use the same 415 MHz frequency in the US, even those of different automakers. If your TPMSequipped Porsche is in close proximity to another vehicle with a similar system, or if you happen to be transporting TPMSequipped wheels or old TPMS sensors, the control unit can be confused and may even display a “too many sensors” warning message in the instrument cluster. =

compensated tire pressures are only displayed when the vehicle is stationary, and the values are expressed in terms of how close they are (+ or -) to the nominal inflation value in PSI. A quality tire pressure gauge should be kept in the car to verify pressures.
