Viva!

Italia

Buongiorno! Welcome to the third edition of the pdpr magazine - your bi-monthly source of all things food, property and travel; with just a sprinkle of marketing thrown in for good measure. Filled to the brim with news, happenings and insider knowledge from Australia and around the world, pdpr magazine showcases things we’re excited about, things we’re working on and what we’d like to be eating, doing, seeing and visiting. In this edition we hire a soft top Fiat and take to the autostrada in search of some of Italy’s most loved (and best kept) secrets - Rome’s best coffee, boutique accommodation on Venice’s Grand Canal, delicious cheese, handmade pasta and some rather famously-branded prosciutto. It’s certainly one delectable edition!

Have you joined us on Social Media? Don’t wait to read our fabulous magazine, hear from us every week!!

Coffee... Sant Eustachio, Il Caffe, Rome Start your day the Roman way with a coffee and pastry while standing at the bar of this famed cafe. Having remained unchanged since it opened in 1938, its prime position across the piazza from the Pantheon makes it a must-visit, while the coffee - an intensely guarded secret - will ensure your continual return.

Pasta... Cicchelli Generi Alimentari, Pescara

Indulge... Palazzo Barbarigo, Venice Escape the frenetic hustle and bustle of Venice’s crowded alleys and take a private vaporetto to Palazzo Barbarigo - a boutique accommodation venue on the Grand Canal. Beautifully renovated, the 17th century palace is a haven of cool, moody spaces and understated luxury, complete with water views of course.

Okay so some office staff think this place is worthy of a mention on name only. However beyond the eponymous connection, this deli-wine bar offers some seriously fine fare including house-cured prosciutto, rare wines and even products from our own Tetsuya Wakuda.

See...

Florence

Whether it’s by bike, car or tour bus, make your way to the lookout and prepare to be amazed at the sheer majesty of Florence. Trattoria Da Fiore, Venice Okay, your wallet is going to hurt, resign yourself to the fact. Service is also going to be snooty at best and you’re going to leave feeling rather ripped off. Yet somehow you’re going to be okay with that, because you have just eaten some pretty fine fare at one of the most famous, Michelin-starred restaurants Venice has to offer. It’s a quality problem. www.dafiore.net

It may be viewing the city through Rose-hued glass, but this way, there is no graffiti, no crowds and no modern amenity, just romantic church domes and a view to remember.

Stay... Villa Zadra, Torreglia, Padua For those wanting to see the country’s beautiful north and are looking for the perfect base, look no further than character-filled Villa Zadra. Built in the 1700s by a noble Venetian family, the rambling country manor has two kitchens, massive entertainment areas and is set among grand gardens filled with fruit trees. Situated in picturesque Torreglia, the property is just half an hour from Venice and less than an hour to Verona and the lakes district.

Drink... Centerbe Literally translated as ‘hundred herbs’ this traditional digestive liqueur has been made from plants and botanicals gathered from the majestic Maiella - a mountain range that frames much of the region of Abruzzo.

Cheese...

At 70% alcohol it packs quite a punch, however Abruzzese usually add fuel to the fire by drinking it with Sambucca or poured into their morning coffee to ward off winter chills.

Sant’Eufemia a Maiella Situated in the lush hills of the Abruzzo region, Sant’Eufemia is little more than a dot on the map except for two adjacent cheese shops that vie daily for business, with the continuous competition producing some of the most magnificent burrata, bocconcini, ricotta and other fresh dairy goods around.

don't forget... Throw a coin into rome’s trevi fountain to ensure your swift return.

Copywrit ing

for real estate Like good photography, good copywriting is imperative to any successful advertising campaign. While a few hastily thrown together words will often suffice, carefully construed copy can create atmosphere, evoke feelings and build on the excitement of a potential sale.

a few hints for agents • Who is your target? Whether your selling a first home or forever home, don’t forget to build that sense of excitement into your copy. • A deck/kitchen/living room is not generous, (it does not give gifts nor money!), if it is large it is generously sized. • Simple things like checking grammar and punctuation add professionalism. • Bi-fold doors concertina back, stacking doors slide one behind the other. • ‘Laminex’ is a brand, ‘laminate’ is what bench tops are made of. • With numbers, one to nine are spelt out, 10 onwards are typed. • Ensure a uniformity of style for all copy throughout the agency. • Finish on a strong note; ensure your last sentence encapsulates all the property’s best points.

pdpr has now spent over ten years creating high impact copy for the prestige property market and we pride ourselves on providing web, brochure, advertising and sign copy (with quick turn around) that makes you sit up and take notice.

pasta. Handmade pasta is a thing of great beauty. One egg for every 100g of ‘00 plain flour, mixed and kneaded then fed through rollers to create great sheets of silken gold. Left as is, you get lasagne, cut by hand into generous ribbons it becomes pappardelle, pressed into moulds the variations on ravioli are almost endless. Add a sauce, e mescolando bene, (stir well).

Cheats-carbonarA* No-cook sauce In a pan fry two rashers of bacon in a little butter, in a bowl mix 1 cup cream, 1 egg, parmesan and plenty of pepper. Throw everything into just-drained pasta and stir, letting the heat of the pasta cook the egg and thicken the sauce.

While your pasta is cooking, dice kalamata olives, anchovies, capers and two beautifully ripe tomatoes. Once drained, add these ingredients to the pasta along with parsley, parmesan and a generous slug of olive oil.

*Measurements are a guide only to Of course if you lack the time, energy serve two people. or general inclination, dried pastas work just as well.
