FROM THE DESK AT
Welcome to the 2023 edition of Springside Farms Annual Charolais Bull Sale on February 11th, at the Stettler Agriplex, Stettler, Alberta. This event is a true headliner for the Charolais breed and the livestock industry throughout the nation and stretching across borders worldwide. The Springside program has been very competitive in the major shows in Canada but most importantly is the breeder and supplier of superior seedstock for breeders and commercial cattleman alike. Mike Panasiuk has the most drive and energy one can muster…. With a full time, job off farm, running a large purebred cowherd, exhibiting the program at shows, holding sales and yet having time to attend Charolais events from ocean to ocean… and doing a hell of a job in all positions.
The 2023 bull lineup is exciting and diverse! Headlined by SOS Kickstart PLD 825K, the son of Players Club Champion, SOS Apex, who is destined to be a legend in the breed. This youngster was named Senior Bull Calf Champion at the Toronto Royal Winter Fair Anniversary Show and declared Reserve Senior Bull Calf Champion at the 2022 Canadian Western Agribition. At both major shows, Springside captured Champion Breeders Herd and Champion Get of Sire on the progeny of SOS Apex Pld 139F. The lineup offers a large offering of sons by SOS Apex and Turnbulls Duty-Free…bulls that are trait leaders for performance and carcass values.
New for this year is a group of two-year-old bulls… younger born bull that were not old enough for breeding and slated for this spring sale. These bulls are built to cover more cows and more terrain. With the acquisition of the Wiese cow herd, it has added genetic diversity to the sale lineup in both yearlings and twos in addition to putting some Full French back into the mix. We know the value of the Charolais bull infusing profit to your bottom line be it a cow/calf producer, a feeder or packer. Quality is always a factor, but you can be assured that the Springside quality and customer service is top shelf. Plan to be with us for the next chapter of Springside Farms. We urge you to stop by and view the lineup if you are travelling through or just give Mike a call… you will get a straight answer about any bull, and he loves to talk cattle.
See you at the Springside Bull Sale. If we may be of assistance, prior to or sale day, feel free to contact any of the T Bar Team or myself, we will help you in a professional manner.
- CHRIS POLEYWelcome to our annual bull sale where we have a bull for every budget! For us, this bull sale is just like putting the training wheels back on. Even though we have been through countless bull sales, it is definitely different running without Sandan this year. We want to extend our most heartfelt thank you to Ursula and the Sandan crew for paving the way to a successful and longstanding bull sale. We have learned a lot from you and it has truly been a pleasure working with you; now we look forward to carrying on the tradition.
2022 was a quite a year for us! With the season finale sale last fall and taking on a new full time position as feed sales rep with Country Junction Feeds, we’ve seen a lot of transition at Springside. However, we’re not known to shy away from new opportunities and we are excited to share what we’ve been working on in recent months! First, we were fortunate to dive into the full French market, picking up 21 females from Roger Maloney’s herd dispersal. We also had the chance to acquire the Medonte Charolais cow herd, having held Allan’s herd in the highest regard for quite some time. Lastly, we began working with Jim Wiese, leasing his exceptional set of Charolais females. The end result of these new ventures is establishing a solid groundwork for an exceptional set of functional females and the proof can be seen in the bull pen we have on offer this year. We have built our reputation on quality breeding stock and this year will be no different. In the past few years, Char-cross calves have been a license to print money and in this volatile economy you don’t want to be taking chances. You’re better off putting your money on a sure thing so it only makes sense to buy a Charolais bull. It fills me with a great sense of pride and joy in the fall when time after time I see our customers and fellow cattlemen topping the market with their SOS stamped calves. Please be our guests Friday and Saturday at the Stettler Agriplex for some hospitality and some fantastic Charolais breeding bulls that are sure to impress! You are also welcome to come to Kale and Grace’s ranch at Halkirk at any time prior to the sale if you’d like to view the bulls, the dams, or our operation in general. Thank you for your continued support of our program and for allowing us to be a part of your operation! - MIKE PANASIUK

With the increasing demand for extra age bulls, we decided to set aside 30 of our youngest 2021 bull calves and develop them for this sale. These bulls are not left-overs and were carefully selected with calving ease and excellent feet and legs in mind. Buy with confidence, these bulls will cover a lot of cows.
CALVING EASE
If it’s your first time buying Charolais bulls or calving ease is your number one priority, then Mike’s top 10 is for you. I’ve analyzed every bull from a CALVING EASE ONLY PERSPECTIVE and picked out 10 that I am confident will work for you. I’ve not only looked at their birth weights but taken into account their sires and dams’ individual history and made sure that the front shoulder is laid in flat and that they have a smaller than average head. Let’s face it, some cows just have smaller than average calves at birth and they forward that trait to their sons. I know the cows and the families that can be consistently counted on to deliver. This is not a ranking of the best 10 bulls in the sale, but rather a selection of 10 that will deliver from a calving ease perspective. Check out the calving ease scores; 1 star is for mature cows only, 2 stars is for cows or mature heifers, and 3 stars is heifer approved

KG LAND AND CATTLE COMMERCIAL HEIFERS
I stared building my Simmental cow herd 11 years ago by buying 5 open heifer calves from my grandpa. We have slowly built up our cow herd over the past 11 years by keeping our own replacements and buying out of a couple dispersal sales, now calving 230 commercial Simmental based cows running mostly full blood bulls. Now at a point where Grace, James & my pasture won’t allow me to keep 100 heifers. These are first females I have EVER sold out of our closed herd,I strongly believe all these heifer will go work for their new owners. All heifers are on the bovi shield vaccine program and will be palpated before sale day. Grace has all 19 heifer tie broke! If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to call or text me at 403741-7166. Visitors always welcome to come look before hand.
