Welcome to the 2025 edition of “Spirit of the North” Spring Bull Sale on Monday April 7th, held at Spiritwood Stockyards, Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. This three-breed event has been the source for high quality seedstock bulls for both the purebred breeder and the many commercial cattlemen who have sourced added-value sires. These three breeding operations are situated in the heart of the parkland where they breed, raise and condition bulls that are hardy for the area terrain.
Clevelands Farm supply’s the Angus portion of the offering… two-year-old Angus both red and black. Their program is based on producing and marketing two’s that are backgrounded, then summered on grass to get extra growth potential and soundness. Many are sired by leading proven sires and grandsires, providing fresh out-cross genetics to their many repeat customers. The bulls can cover more cows, bigger cows in all types of terrain and shorten gestation for uniformity. Don’t hesitate to give John or Dallas a call to discuss your breeding options.
Lionel from Cas-Bar is the Charolais supplier. His lineup of two-year-olds, are rugged and high in performance. In past years, Cas-Bar has been a supplier of breeder bulls and many income earning sires in the beef industry. In addition to the twos, he offers a top cut in the yearling pen. We all know and recognise the demand for Charinfluenced feeder calves and that the shortage of Charolais two-year-olds for the big pastures has been evident over the past several years. The Cas-Bar consignment offers a wonderful opportunity whether you are looking for white, tan or red money makers full of performance. In addition, Cas-Bar expanded their horizons and added another breed…Simmental, acquired through Randy’s dispersal last fall. These yearlings are sired by bulls with predictable and proven genetics… genetics that will be recognized by many.
New to “Spirit of the North “are Porter Simmentals… although new to the sale, they are not new to the breed… having been established since 1975. This small but elite program comes to the sale with a powerful lineup of both red and black bulls… bulls that were campaigned on the show-road successfully last fall. The sons of “Betts” will be a feature sale day… don’t overlook the Porter offering.
Feel free to visit any of these breeding operations and preview the bulls, see the mothers or give them a call to discuss your options. If we at T Bar C, may be of any assistance prior to or sale day, do not hesitate to call any of our team and we will be pleased to assist in a professional and confidential manner.

welcome Cas-Bar Farms from
Welcome to the Spirit of the North Annual Bull Sale 2025. It is a great time to own cows, with record setting prices for feeder calves. It is nice to finally get rewarded for all of our hard work and efforts.
Our line of bulls is once again a group we are proud to present. There’s a little bit of everything for everyone. Bulls with calving ease and performance and a few more Red Factor bulls for those of you that want some with color. With the Westroh’s dispersing their Simmental heard last year, we purchased some of their cows to still bring some Simmental genetics to our sale. Our numbers are small, but we promise to provide more in the future as we have purchased additional females as well as embryos to try and supply this void.
We would like to welcome Mike Porter and his family to the sale. They will be consigning a group of Simmental bulls to help fill this spot as well.
All bulls will be semen tested prior to the sale and will come with a veterinary certificate of authenticity.
We encourage you to view the videos of our bulls online at buyagro.com and the Charolais Banner website. Videos give a better look at the bulls as some pictures don’t give a true representation of these bulls and some bulls just aren’t very photo genic! Even better than the pictures and videos, come and inspect the bulls at our farm prior to the sale. Everyone is welcome.
Mark your calendars, we will be having our Customer Appreciation Open House Saturday March 22, 2025, starting at noon and ending when you decide to go home. We provide excellent food and beverage and Rancher socializing for the whole family. Please come and let us assist you in choosing the bulls that best suit your program. We will make every attempt to make sure you satisfied with your purchase.

Working with the Cas Bar crew on their nutrition program has been a pleasure. I hope you can make it in person to see this elite set of Charolais bulls.
The cowherd utilizes a mineral program that is balanced to the cow’s requirements and feed sources. This supports proper bull calf health and development from a young age. The bull development program is built to maximize forage utilization and gut health. All forages are sampled and analyzed to ensure quality feed sources are used. Cas Bar utilizes a protein supplement to ensure the bulls daily diet is promoting lean muscle growth, allowing the bulls to express their genetic potential. Rumen health is of upmost importance, which is why suitable protein sources and proper starch levels are fed to the bulls.
Cas Bar Farms uses a total nutrition program on their entire operation, ensuring optimal performance and health of their cattle. If you have any questions about the nutrition of the sale bulls, please feel free to call.
Best of luck on sale day!

strong Two-Year-Old Bulls starting off
Most of our 2-year-olds are sired by our walking bulls. Bulls sired by CBF Old Fashion 911G were off of 1st calf heifers. We sold 911G in our 2021 sale to Saunders Charolais of Markdale ON, but we continue to use him through AI on our heifers. He is a calving ease sire and provides an outstanding hair coat and his daughters are proving to be great females. Bulls sired by CBF Powerplay 11H are just that, bulls with a little more frame and performance to be used on cows He provides extra muscle and also a great hair coat. CBF All In 108J was used in our heifer pen, he was our high selling bull in our 2022 sale and we thought so much of this bull we bought ½ back.

Charolais
The Percentage Calving Chart
1. An average cow of any breed should be able to calve 7% of her body weight.
2. Most Charolais and Simmental cows will weigh between 1400-1800 lb., expected calf weight to range from 98 to 126 lb.
3. Most Red Angus and Black Angus cows will weigh between 1200-1600 lb., expected calf weight range 84 to 112 lb.
4 Calving ease is more important than birth weight because a longer sided calf may calve easy, but the birth weight is higher.
(see 7% Calving Chart below)
Birth Weight
& Calving Ease
University studies in Wyoming and data from Montana and Colorado lend credence to the following conclusion:
1. The birth weight itself influences calving ease by 65%
2. The female has 60-70% influence on birth weight of her calf.
3. The bull has 30-40% influence on birth weight of his progeny.
4. Pelvic measurement and angle as well as the shape of the calf have 35-40% influence on calving ease.
5. Length of gestation greatly affects birth weight. A fetus can gain over one pound per day in the last days of gestation.
6. Weather and temperature the last 30 days affect the length of gestation.
7. Size and maturity of cow influence calving ease.
