WEST GORHAM BRANCH CASCO FEDERAL CREDIT UNION GORHAM, MAINE
New construction 3,062 sf Completed 2016 The new West Gorham branch of Casco Federal Credit Union replaces a much smaller location that the credit union leased next door. The new building anchors the intersection with expanded off-street parking, a convenient drive-through, a lightfilled lobby, and attractive landscaping.

The interior is welcoming, with natural light throughout, a roomier, more efficient teller line, and glass-walled perimeter offices. Comfortable seating invites customers to take their time. Behind the scenes, improved staff facilities include storage and a break room. The credit union was founded by a group of area teachers and expanded by admitting and merging with other community groups, so their sense of community mission is very strong. In order to express that through the building, and offer a resource to members and other civic groups, they worked with PDT to include a conference room suite with its own entrance and bathrooms that is available free for use after hours.

In the interior, durable and low-maintenance finishes include new flooring, wall systems, and a coffered ceiling with resin panels to deemphasize the linear existing space with overhead interest and transparent walls. Improved high-efficiency LED lighting with curved backlit resin panels creates the illusion of a higher ceiling.

Renovation and addition 6,080 sf Completed 2013 PDT partnered with Wright-Ryan Construction to design a major addition to the branch/operations center. The first floor houses a large meeting room, kitchen, and core facilities, and the second floor expands the open office plan to accommodate administrative departments. The interior finishes refine the color and material selections of the exterior to bring the building into alignment with the visual brand of the credit union. New siding on the entire structure unifies the old with the new.

Operations Center TruChoice Federal Credit Union SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE
New construction 9,500 sf Construction and site cost $1.5M Completed 2010 PDT Architects designed this freestanding credit union operations center as a design/build project for Wright/Ryan Construction. The building is a “back-of-house facility that does not serve the public directly. The floor plan arranges private offices, a state-of-the-art data center, and conference rooms around open workspaces with vaulted ceilings. An employee area includes a kitchen and outdoor patio. Shower facilities support a corporate wellness program. There is plenty of storage space, plus an 800-sf suite that can be leased out or used for future expansion. Exterior materials and landscaping were chosen for low cost and ease of maintenance. Specialized systems include a security system and a natural gas emergency generator.

PDT worked with the TruChoice staff on space planning so that the small footprint would yield the most efficient work flow. Two open workspaces are filled with systems furniture, with private offices and small conference roooms on the perimeter. A centrally located workroom houses printing, copying, and mailing equipment. The client chose the finishes and furnishings. Natural light is brought to every desk in order to engage each employee with the outdoors. Interior clerestory windows and tubular skylights direct natural light toward interior workspaces.
