Still a very stressful and strange time for everyone this year as we all cross our fingers, that cases of the virus stay low and no local lockdown's are imposed on Brighton & East Sussex so we have time to recover.

There is a big debate at the moment over the wearing of masks and gloves when out and about. I feel tensions are running high in both camps but urge everyone to make an informed choice and be tolerant of each others decisions. Also don’t forget some people, such as asthma sufferers, genuinely cannot wear one. Our Council buildings are still not open yet to the public but they remain very active to look after our best interests at this time. You can find Community House information on page 35. There is still help available if you need it from the different community groups that have been helping residents over the last few months and the food bank are still desperately in need of donations of food and money. You can find out more about that on page 35. Don’t forget there are a lot of local self employed people looking to build up their businesses again and it looks like there are going to be a good few businesses who will not be opening or will have to make lay-offs. Things are going to be tough for a while. If you need to promote or are looking to get something off the ground then do contact me and lets see what we can achieve together. That has always been a big part of this magazine and I want it to continue that way. If you find you have time on your hands why not write a little article for us of something that you are passionate about. I would love to hear from you. ean Views Crunch time ....for a flagship mobile phone The Samsung S10 Plus is a quality, premium mobile phone. As the picture below illustrates they cannot withstand the onslaught of a mischievous puppy that likes to steal-and-chew. The phone was not covered by any of the myriad of insurance policies, so in a few short minutes a £900 mobile was destroyed by an 11 month dog. However, there is still a year to run on the contract, at £60 a month. None of us could afford, or stomach, the replacement cost of an equivalent phone so we returned to my favourite mid price brand. Motorola (now owned by Lenovo) offers a huge range of affordable handsets. If your budget will stretch, the G range is the best value (Prices range between £150 and £350). The range offers decent budget phones through to higher models offering stylus use or 5G. At renewal I don't think it will be another flagship model.

Isthmian Premier League coach joins Peacehaven By Pitchside View
FORMER Lewes head coach Tony Coade has joined Peacehaven ahead of the new season. Coade, who spent nearly five years with the Isthmian Premier League outfit as head coach joins Peacehaven for the new season. Prior to joining Lewes in October 2015, UEFA B qualified coach Coade was head coach at Peacehaven and was part of the successful management team which took Peacehaven & Telscombe FC from the Sussex County League to the Isthmian Premier League in successive seasons. Along the way they won the Sussex Senior Cup as well as winning the Isthmian League South title with what was then a record number of points.
Tony Coade said: “I’m massively excited. I love and have always loved Peacehaven & Telscombe FC and now everything seems right to come back. I had a great time at Lewes and made many friends there and I wish them the very best for the new season." "I’ve been talking to Mark for a few weeks about returning and I can’t wait to get going once we can restart.” At the time of writing both the youth and senior players are back in training but no start date has been set for the new season.
In his playing days, Coade played for amongst other teams, League of Ireland side Cork Hibs as well as playing in Italy for Serie C side Pro Palazzonlo. Coade has a long affinity with Peacehaven & Telscombe FC and alongside his senior coaching role he will continue to run the club’s Academy with Director of Football Mark Shutt as well as coaching the youngsters on Saturday mornings. Director of Football and first team manager Mark Shutt said: “I am delighted to get a man, coach and friend of Tony’s pedigree. He brings considerable experience and knowledge to our set up and I can’t wait to begin working with him.”

Charity Cream Tea Day Celebration Hailed 'A Great Success' The Havens Community Hub, founded to help solve unmet community needs, delivered their first 'Happy Boxes', themed to celebrate National Cream Tea Day, on Friday 26�� June to nearly fifty older people in the Havens Community (Saltdean to Seaford and the surrounding villages). Grateful recipients, who have been isolated for over three months, expressed their delight in receiving a 'Hug In A Box' which contained freshly home-baked scones, cream, jam, retro sweets, biscuits, tea coffee and hot chocolate sachets, a bag of fresh strawberries and practical items for coming out of lockdown such as hand sanitizer and hand-stitched comfortable fabric face masks.
The Hub secured funding for their first 100 Happy Boxes through their recent 'Silver Linings' crowdfunding campaign and with support from the 'Small Sparks' grant scheme by SCDA. Their next fifty boxes will be donated to Kempton House Day Centre and the Deans Senior Tea Club for their members, with a new theme and items. Practical support guides such as preventing falls' were also handed out along with motivational cards drawn by local primary school children acknowledging how hard lockdown has been for everyone and their hopes for a better future.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Rottingdean Much like many of you, the past few months in the lives of the children, staff and parents at Our Lady of Lourdes in Rottingdean will live long in the memory. Gone are the normal routines and procedures, to be replaced with a large proportion of our children working from home and those who have parents who are key workers; coming in. Those that are here busy themselves with their lessons and play in the morning and then sporting activities in the afternoon or visits to our own woodland area - all done following the latest guidance on hand hygiene and social distancing. Our general fitness has also improved with our daily sport with Joe Wicks, which we’ve been doing in our hall. We’ve also been supporting our local community with a Foodbank which we are determined to continue into the autumn and beyond. We’ll keep in touch with how donations are arranged when we return from the holidays.

Our staff remain absolutely amazing in their dedication and flexibility; staying in contact with the children who are away from school and offering advice to parents via calls and Zoom sessions. During the lockdown we also received the news from the admissions team at county that we are oversubscribed for next year with lots of demand for our Reception places. We look forward to welcoming these children in September and getting to know the families that are new to us. Brighton Council hands Saltdean Lido lease to community interest group On 10�� July Brighton and Hove City Council granted the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company (SLCIC) a 63-year lease for the grade II* listed art deco pool and building. This means that some of the £4.2 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund can be released and restoration plans started.

The main building is on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register and in a dilapidated condition and has been largely closed to the public for some time. In 1938 its innovative reinforced concrete structure enabled Saltdean Lido's iconic streamlined design, however, due to its sea-facing location, the structure has suffered decades of chloride-attack which has penetrated the building. Derek Leaver, SLCIC Director said, “Today is a significant step forward in Saltdean Lido’s history, as securing the lease enables us to access funds to start engaging with structural engineers and architects. We need to design how we can restore the building within the guidelines set by Historic England and the National Heritage Lottery fund while providing a sustainable building for use by the community. “We thank everyone who has generously helped raise funds and volunteered so far for this historic project and look forward to presenting plans for getting the best use out of this potentially lovely building in due course. The project is currently costed at just under £8m and we need to continue to fundraise for the last £700,000, which is required before we can actually start any of the building work.” The SLCIC aims to make the site financially sustainable with revenue from the pool, a café, fitness and workspace areas plus venue hire for community groups, weddings and other events.

Claude Cheta has launched a campaign asking residents to donate either a tin or jar of food which will be delivered to the Seahaven Food Bank. Cllr. Cheta has picked this charitable organisation to support whilst in post as Mayor. Peacehaven Town Council are open for donations every weekday morning at Community House, Meridian Centre; however, we understand that the normal way of life has drastically changed over the past three months and it may be difficult to carry out a shopping trip to the supermarket. Bearing this in mind, we have also set up a GoFundMe page so you can donate to the Mayor’s appeal without having to leave the house. Either way it will help this vital cause. The Seahaven Foodbank covers the Havens which includes Peacehaven clients. Seahaven Foodbank, also known as Newhaven Foodbank, provides food parcels to families and individuals in Newhaven, Sussex, and the surrounding areas.
The falloff in food donations caused by the Covid-19 crisis and the jump in demand that we have seen for the service has meant that the food bank has had to start buying food and other essential products. This, together with the need to move to a delivery model and the widening of the geographical area served, has increased costs significantly. A financial donation will enable supplies to be purchased and distributed to those who are struggling and vulnerable. A food parcel for an individual for one-week costs £14, or £18 with toiletries. All donations to the Mayor’s GoFundMe page will go directly to the food bank. (Aether Bios Clinic) Bridgeford’s Best Bites: Osteopathy Tips - Jaw Tension - TMJ problems Many people suffer with tension in the jaw joint for a variety of reasons and causing a variety of symptoms. The pain can be in the joint itself and in the muscles that control its movement as well as in surrounding areas. Problems with the jaw and muscles in the face that control it are called temporomandibular disorders (TMD). It can be temporary or last many years, affecting one or both sides of the face. More common in women than men and most common in the 20-40 age group. The temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) is the jaw joint in front of the ear, connecting the jawbone to the skull. The skull bone that contains the ear canal is called the temporal bone and the lower jawbone is called the mandible. TMJ is a sliding hinge joint that allows us to open and close our mouths and move them side to side so we can talk, chew and yawn. The joint contains cartilage and a small shockabsorbing disc, to aid normal smooth movement. Anatomy: Muscles that close the jaw: masseter, temporalis and lateral (external) pterygoid. Muscles that open the jaw: medial (internal) pterygoid. Muscles involved in swallowing and elevating the hyoid bone: suprahyoid (above the hyoid bone) - geniohyoid, mylohyoid, stylohyoid and digastric. Ligaments: temporomandibular, stylomandibular and sphenomandibular. Symptoms include pain or tenderness in the face, ear, around one or both jaw joint areas, neck and shoulders or a headache in the temples. Pain while chewing, difficulty chewing or locking of the jaw making it difficult to open or close your mouth. Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) may be related to TMD. Pain may be worse when chewing or feeling stressed and can disrupt sleep. Clicking, popping or grinding noises when you move your jaw may not necessarily include pain or limitation of movement. Causes can be due to a number of reasons including arthritis, connective tissue disorders that may affect the joint, wear and tear of the joint or cartilage, whiplash and jaw injury, including a blow to the head or face and injury to the muscles; teeth clenching or grinding (bruxism), which can be due to stress and tension causing tightening of the facial and jaw muscles or from teeth not aligning correctly giving and uneven bite (malocclusion, requiring dental assistance); poor posture, excessive gum chewing and orthodontic braces. A long session in the dentist chair can cause temporary TMJ pain.

Treatment: Self Help includes eating soft food, take paracetamol or ibuprofen, hold ice packs or heat packs to the jaw, whichever feels better, massage the painful jaw muscles, try to find ways to relax; practice good posture. Avoid chewing gum or pen tops, biting food with your front teeth, yawning too wide, biting your nails, clenching your teeth, except when eating, resting your chin on your hand. Dentist may recommend oral splints or mouth guards and work to correct your bite. Doctor (if pain persists or your jaw locks and you cannot eat or drink) they may suggest surgery or injections at the joint when other options fail. Osteopathic Treatment: Take a detailed case history to understand the nature of the problem and surrounding issues. Examine the neck, shoulders, jaw and spine and all surrounding tissues; muscles, ligaments, nerves, fascia, etc., for movement, strength and functionality and assess nerve pathways. Test jaw movements. Treat to reduce muscle tension, nerve irritation and soft tissue pain. Advice regarding specific exercise and stretching the neck and shoulders. Treatment may include gentle treatment of the entire cranium, perhaps internal mouth work where appropriate, manipulation, deep soft tissue massage, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, fascial techniques, dry needling, etc. We are happy to advise you on your health matters.
