As always our front cover is by Colette Langton of Colette Langton Photography, who told me “This was taken on 'Blue Monday' 20.1.2020 - ironically it was the best day of the year so far and the sky so blue!” Well our front cover was a big contrast to the stormy weather we had in February, I hope you all stayed safe and did not experience flooding. It is unclear whether that means removing extra red button channels but it definitely is the death knell for Digital Teletext.” After a concerted campaign by several charities and newspapers the shutdown was postponed. The main arguments were that deaf, elderly and lowincome groups that did not own computers or Smartphones were left without access to a free news service. The BBC now needs to find funding to maintain the services. On February 11��, 2020 the World Health Organization announced COVID-19 is the official name of the current outbreak of Coronavirus disease. Apart from the terrible human cost, there will be medium term problems in manufacturing with large areas of industrial China at a complete standstill.

Ford fires Haven into the semis

CURT FORD assured Peacehaven & Telscombe of their place in the semi-finals of the Sussex Senior when they overcame Lewes. Ford hit a beauty on 49 minutes from 20 yards to set up a semi-final date against National League South side Eastbourne Borough.

And then in the 49�� minute Ford put Peacehaven ahead. Straightaway Lewes responded forcing Haven ‘keeper Sanded into a good save.

Peacehaven came into the game as underdogs against a team who play two divisions above them.

With just one minute left to play Sanded made another brilliant save when he pushed the ball out for a corner. Final score: Peacehaven & Telscombe 1, Lewes 0.

The game was a robust affair with both sides looking dangerous when they attacked. With just half an hour played Peacehaven had a huge penalty appeal waved away. And then Ford (pictured) hit the post with a good header. Straight from the restart Peacehaven attacked as Jake Brocklebank found Josh Marshall who flicked the ball through to Ford who fired wide.

Home games coming up are: Saturday March 7��, Horsham YMCA, 21��, East Preston, April 4�� Loxwood, 11�� Eastbourne Town. Kick-off 3:00pm. (Aether Bios Clinic) Bridgeford’s Best Bites: Osteopathy Tips Applied Kinesiology… APPLIED KINESIOLOGY Many people think that Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a treatment, whereas it is actually a diagnostic tool that is used in combination with other standard methods of diagnosis to assess aspects of health. What is AK? AK is a non-invasive system of evaluating how a person’s body functions using manual muscle testing as a feedback mechanism. Used correctly, it should help to evaluate the best form of treatment or therapy for an individual patient. Basically, when a muscle does not test as functioning properly, the practitioner will investigate the reason and apply the remedy that restores normal muscle test response to help the patient. I tell my patients it is like we are using the muscle responses to have a conversation with their nervous system, as muscle testing is primarily concerned with neuromuscular function and how it relates to structural, chemical and mental physiology. Treatments may involve joint mobilisation, myofascial techniques, cranial techniques, acupuncture meridian therapy, clinical nutrition, dietary management and various reflex procedures. After treatment, it is possible to retest to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment on the individual. Origins of AK: Doctor George Goodheart, a USA chiropractor first introduced manual muscle testing to evaluate body function in 1964. Knowledge and research into AK has grown considerably since then, expanding its dimensions as a diagnostic tool of bodily dysfunction, modifying and evolving techniques and introducing new ones. Even in the early days of AK, it was apparent how the use of many treatment methods in Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Homeopathy produced improved neuromuscular function, which could be directly measured using AK.

What can be Treated? The basic structural issues that may take you to a healthcare practitioner, e.g. back, neck and joint pain, sciatica, headaches and migraine, postural abnormalities, disc injuries, nerve irritation, acute onset and minor sports injuries. Additionally, other functional and systemic disorders may be addressed, including hormone related issues, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, sleep pattern and stress related disorders. What to Expect in an AK Treatment? When visiting an AK practitioner, expect to be involved. The practitioner will first take a detailed medical history and perform the standard diagnostic tests, followed by a variety of muscle tests to assess areas of dysfunction. They will test for basic mechanical defects, the possible connection of visceral (gland or organ) dysfunction, stress levels in the body and where indicated cranial and pelvic distortion and toxicity/allergy problems. The practitioner and patient work together during manual muscle testing, giving the patient the opportunity to be actively involved in their treatment process. This helps the patient to have greater understanding of their treatment process and thus adopt a greater sense of responsibility towards their health; they can also experience the feedback via the muscle testing. AK uses the principal that the body is a self-maintaining, self-correcting mechanism and its innate wisdom knows what is wrong; the practitioner needs to ‘ask’ the right questions to discover the nature of the imbalance and watch the body’s response when it says ’yes please’. Treatment may involve a combination of structural work, guidance in self-treatment, nutritional support, remedies and treatment to aid stress related problems. Triad of Health: In AK, balance of the major health areas is represented by each side of an equilateral triangle representing structural, chemical and mental factors of health. A person with ill health will have an imbalance in one or more aspects, distorting the triad. Each aspect can affect the other, e.g. a chemical imbalance can affect organs such as the gut or liver and affect also mental and physical health. AK helps the practitioner to evaluate the triad’s balance and apply the therapy towards creating a balance on all sides to restore health.

Martlets projects & events 2020 Could you be a Compassionate Neighbour in your Community? Martlets is launching a new community-led project, Compassionate Neighbours, aimed at tackling loneliness and isolation for people living with terminal illness across Brighton, Hove and the Havens. Compassionate Neighbours is a national social movement that has been successful in other parts of the UK. Martlets is now introducing this programme locally to encourage people to connect with each other and make a difference to members of their community coping with the impact of terminal illness and to help reduce social isolation. The programme aims to provide a group of trained neighbours who offer their time and companionship to local people struggling with loneliness and are in need of support. A Compassionate Neighbour can help by arranging regular visits, offering a listening ear and emotional support or helping people to do activities they enjoy and staying connected to their local community and family and friends. Martlets Community Social Worker, Elmien Brink said: “Martlets understands that many local people can become socially isolated when coping with terminal illness and that there are people who will be facing death and dying on their own.  We also know that in our community there is a desire for people to be there for one another and offer help and support. Glow Crazy for Martlets at 3 hour UV Zumbathon® event Martlets is inviting energetic fundraisers of all ages (12+) and fitness levels to take part in it’s popular glow-in-the-dark three hour sponsored dance marathon - now in its seventh successful year. The Zumbathon® will take place on 27�� March 2020 at the King Alfred Ballroom in Hove. Doors open at 6:30pm, the dancing starts at 7.30pm and glowing on until 10:30pm! Fundraisers are encouraged to wear their brightest outfits and there will be UV face painting and UV accessories available on the night with a unique laser and light show to help keep everyone motivated to move. The dancing is led by inspirational Zumba® teacher Sherryn Watkin and her super- fit team of instructors. Over the years Sherryn has danced her way to raising £100,000 for the charity. She commented: “I have had direct experience of the care and support that hospices give people with terminal illness and it made me determined to give something back and do what I could to help. Dancing is what I do - and thousands of wonderful people have supported me to party my way to this incredible total!” Clem Hunnisett, Martlets Fundraising Team said, “This is such a fun night out with an incredible atmosphere, no-one needs to be a Zumba® expert or keep going non-stop! We are so grateful to everyone that takes part to help raise money to provide life changing hospice care for local people with terminal illness and their loved ones. Get your group together and come along for a party with a purpose.” Martlets is hoping to fill the venue to its capacity of 200 dancers - entry is £18 and participants are encouraged to raise additional sponsorship in support of their efforts. Local Restaurant review: Burger & Bird

We have been out sampling the food at Peacehaven’s newest eating establishment, not just burger & chicken as we found out…

Burger and Bird The newest addition to Peacehaven High Street: the dark exterior is misleading as it gives way to a bright, clean and modern interior. We were shown to a table straight away and the service was polite. The restaurant was quiet for a Saturday lunch time, but I’d imagine it can get quite busy come dinner service. For a burger and chicken place, there was a surprisingly large variety of options. Both the cheese burger (with a gluten free option available) and the vegan equivalent were substantial, satisfying and tasty. I’d also recommend ordering a side of the skin-on chips if you like them crunchy. The day’s special was curry, which again had a vegan option. This dish came with naan bread and a delightful assortment of accompanying sauces. Overall, Burger and Bird is a lovely independent business that caters to large or small groups. Although the service dropped off slightly towards the end, it is often the case that you will have to chase up the cheque when there’s nobody waiting for a free table. I’d strongly encourage our readers to head down there if they fancy good food at a fair price in a restaurant that really is a breath of fresh air from the usual stuffy pub.
