Welcome to the February edition. The Front cover page has been very kindly supplied by Colette Langton of Colette Langton Photography. We both agreed this was a Winter Wonderland that she captured one January morning. Well here we are again! I was hoping the new year would bring about some hope to getting back to some normality, but alas it was not to be. Despite restrictions the majority of our advertisers can still work. Please only book them if you know that there is no-one in your house who is ill. If entering your house our workmen should minimally have a mask on. Often gloves are not used because it is hard to work safely in them. Please do let them know if you are not comfortable with what they are doing so it can be discussed and sorted out to your satisfaction. Tradesmen have their own guidelines from the government so they should be sticking to those. Essential businesses remain open in the high-street and Meridian centre and the following cafes are doing takeaway: Y-Coffee Co, The Pantry, Gateway Cafe, Costa Coffee, Greggs, The Road Shack, (no longer Vegan) Our takeaway places are also working very hard as always. If you have trouble structurally with your body our Chiropractics, Chiropodists, Podiatrists and Naturopaths are all open with full sanitisation and PPE protocols in place. The Peacehaven Covid group, Havens Cars and CTLA are still working very hard for those who are sheltering or need help January puzzle solutions getting to medical appointments. Jade Travel has also got an offer on for travel for people attending vaccination appointments. Don’t forget, It is important to keep your immune system strong. If you need advice on the right supplements for you, Lin Bridgeford of Aether Bios can help you with this and much more. I have used both her and Peacehaven Chiropractic over the last year and both their services have been invaluable to my movement and general health. Take care and look after each other, I hope to have much good news and excitement to relay to you soon. Anne - Editor

ean Views Six Degrees of Separation ....true or coincidence? In case you are wondering, the theory of Six Degrees of Separation (6DoS) speculates that we are six social links from anyone. Some also describe it as the “friend of a friend” network. On the face it seems a ridiculous principle, but is it? As a child in Portsmouth, I can remember a large family living within six roads of each other, the same family is now scattered across the globe. There is now a second layer of interactions through Facebook, Twitter and other online groups. I have spent most of this morning getting lost online reading the raft of articles and experiments that suggest 6DoS is plausible. However, finding a definitive creator is rather messy, this is a child with multiple parents. Wikipedia threw up these gems: Apparently the average number of steps between Twitter users is 4.67, while Facebook stated in February 2016 the number was 4.57 amongst its 1.6 billion users.

At this point I would add social and environmental factors into the mix. An example: I went to watch Pet Shop Boys at the Brighton Centre with my partner. As we were leaving a voice called out, it was one my old customers from when I worked in Chichester. How was that possible out of a crowd of 4,500? Being older with our partners we were likely to be in the Circle. The best seats were usual snapped up before general sale by coach companies at that time. The remaining (expensive) seats were out of our budget so we sat in the side circle. Can you see a pattern building? Like minded people are drawn together by age, taste, environment etc., you just need to find the links.
Coincidence is seldom random….

Welcome to Cycle Seahaven With the continuation of restrictions affecting all our lives there has never been a better time to grab your bike out of the shed, pop on your helmet and cycle out for some fresh air and exercise. The are numerous benefits to cycling. The obvious one of course is to get fitter, however, exploring your local area on a bike can be exhilarating. The fresh air clears the head, the scenery puts a smile on your face and there is always someone else out exercising to wave hello to, helping us to feel and keep in touch with the world we know. There has definitely been a massive uptake of cycling during 2020 and I am sure this will continue as more and more people benefit from this wonderful pastime. If, like many others, you are unsure of where to ride, how to keep safe and warm during winter riding or maybe just need some friendly advice on sprucing up your bike, then why not consider joining Cycle Seahaven your local cycling club. Our cycling club has members from Peacehaven, Newhaven and Seaford who, when we are not restricted, gather together to enjoy Rider Leader led routes both road and off road. The rides are varying in length and routes making it accessible for beginners right through to the most adventurous riders. Obviously with restrictions in place we are unable to lead rides, however, the club have remained friendly and supportive and many of our members still meet up (following strict government guidelines of course) to enjoy a safe ride and then share their journey and photos on our private social media page. In January the club launched a new programme open to all our members which has allowed them to explore some of the favourite routes of our Ride Leaders. These can be done at any time and on your own, with your household or with a friend and lets you explore areas you may never have cycled. There really is no better time than to take up a new challenge. So why wait, visit our website www.cycleseahaven.org.uk and take out a membership. At just £7.00 per person you have nothing to lose and a whole new adventure to begin. Joanne Barlow - Chair for Cycle Seahaven

The benefits of movement Chris Odle, local Personal Trainer shares some of his tips on movement that is so essential to our bodies Movement is a non-negotiable agreement of everyday life, and the benefits you get from that deal are endless! Moving helps to generate more energy, boost mood and improve executive functioning and creativity, ease stress and anxiety and enhance patience. These benefits come from all types of movement. It can take place in a park, at home or in an office. It makes no difference to the body if it is carrying stuff to your car or a workout. To the body, everything counts. Enjoying moving is about finding whatever it is that motivates you to move and doing more of that. If you're someone who dreads movement, this can also be about figuring out the underlying reasons for that dread and reframing. If you can do those two things — reframe and enjoy — the reward is a lifetime of more joy, every single day. The payoffs are worth it. Below are a few pointers on where to look for joy and motivation. The present moment is a powerful one and what you feel in the moment is more motivating than the imaginary results you might see later. People often think the principle purpose of any exercise is weight loss or other body change goals. While moving will probably help with those goals, it will take a long time to see those results. Rather than thinking ahead to the future, try directing attention to what you feel in the moment as you move. If you can find something to appreciate the moment, no waiting is necessary. Tuning in to the present moment gives immediate results. If you enjoy the process, you won. The best strategy for getting to your future goals is to find enjoyment in everyday movement. Practice observing your body sensations in the present moment while you move. What can you find that feels good? Try to set your attention there and, if something isn't feeling good right now, why not?
Reframing may not mean ignoring your body. Staying sensitive to pain and warning signals are critical to staying healthy. They are signals to dial back, autoregulate, and adjust your movement & training program. That leads to the next point. Suffering is the opposite of joy. Building a lifestyle you love is more motivating than checking off a list of chores. If you are in a movement routine that feels like a chore or an unrelenting struggle, this can be a sign to adapt. While some movement is non-negotiable, nearly every other term of your agreement with movement is negotiable. Your movement routine can take shape in endless forms. You choose. Your movement can take the form of a bike commute to and from work, taking the stairs every day or taking 5-minute breaks for some squats five times per day, dance to your favourite song on the radio. Try doing some crawling down your hallway (how long does it take you to get all the way?). Try balancing on one leg, how does it feel one leg to the other? However, you choose to move, always consider the movement you undertake as a central and integral part of the life you live. Moving isn't only something you do whilst working out for 20-minutes of the day. The body that you have is the one you will be with for life. There are no breaks, escapes, or trade-offs. Make moving your body an integrated part of your life. You are less likely to dread the thought of it. For a whole lifestyle and body that you love, choose a movement program that you love. You have to love the body you have. Hanging out with friends is more motivating than hanging out with enemies. If you are kind to your body with enough sleep, nutrition, movement and recovery, it will make the marriage easier to enjoy.
For example, if your body feels uncomfortable, unfamiliar or stressful, is the feeling something you can reframe as being more positive? Maybe those feelings are a sign that positive changes are happening. You may be exploring new boundaries and improving yourself. On the other hand, if what you feel is real body pain, be honest about that too. visit www.peacehavendirectory.co.uk or e: info@peacehavendirectory.co.uk

Under 15s reach the cup final … but will it be played?
By Pitchside View
PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE under 15s have booked their place in the final of the Mid Sussex league cup, but will it be played? With grassroots football currently cancelled for the foreseeable future and with the distinct possibility the season may be abandoned altogether, Ian Brown’s under 15s may not be able to test themselves in the final – the first this group of players has reached. But given the torrid situation we all find ourselves in, it is worth celebrating the Under 15s route to the final. In the first round Peacehaven faced Fishergate Flyers at home who they despatched 6-1. A hat trick from Tom Payne and two from Louis McMahon and one from Jody Parish-Jones sealed a comfortable victory 6-1 for Peacehaven.
Tom Payne smashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to give Peacehaven the lead and this they held onto to make their way into the final. Will the final be played? Who knows. If it is, it is scheduled to be played on Sunday March 7 at Oakwood FC against Crawley Down Gatwick. For more information about Peacehaven & Telscombe FC go to www.peacehavenfootball.com on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
In the quarter-finals St Francis Rangers away were the opposition and the game saw Peacehaven come away with a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Richard Brown and a stunning strike from the edge of the box from Danny Hamill. Peacehaven then drew Southdown Rovers in the semifinals. With one point separating the two teams in the league this was always going to be a difficult game and conditions were atrocious.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, Rottingdean The Green, Rottingdean, Brighton, BN2 7HA www.ourladyoflourdesprimaryschool.co.uk At Our Lady of Lourdes primary School in Rottingdean, the New year has brought fresh opportunities and challenges in abundance. All the amazing staff have responded superbly to the demands of on-line teaching and supporting the children whilst they are at home as well as teaching those children who are in school. The opportunity to come together as a community has been grasped with both hands and we continue to run our Foodbank from the school; helping those in our communities who need extra support. We’re also pleased that our regular visits to our woodland area at the rear of the school has continued for our youngest children, reinforcing their classroom activities through play and exploration and that our sport remains a central part of our school day. We’ve also continued with our virtual open mornings for prospective parents which have been very well attended and allowed parents to see what a friendly, caring and community based school we are. We’d like to remind parents who are interested that, Paul, our Headteacher is always available for a chat if they were considering a place for their Reception child for September 2021. see the on-line magazine at www.peacehavendirectory.co.uk or

Thanks for responding to the centre of Peacehaven Masterplan survey Thank you to all those who responded to the survey on the masterplan for the centre of Peacehaven. The Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) Steering Group has had a fantastic response and will be collating everyone’s views after the closing date for comments on Sunday 31 January. If you haven’t filled the survey in yet you can still do so. There have already been many comments on Facebook and other platforms and an updated frequently asked questions document has been created to respond to questions as they arise. All the responses will be used to create a paper which will be used as an evidence document. A pamphlet was delivered to every home in the plan area i.e. East Saltdean, Telscombe including Telscombe village and Peacehaven. Social media and websites were also used to promote the online survey. The pamphlet set out the background on the NDP and the concept possibility for land use on the Meridian Site.

We had planned a number of public events in 2020 to consult and make the community aware of the vision and aims of the NDP but of course these were overshadowed by COVID-19 regulations. However, on 11 February at 7:00 pm we will be holding a public Zoom meeting, to enable any questions or comments to be addressed. Please contact Peacehaven Town Council if you wish to attend. (www.peacehaventowncouncil.gov.uk) The Co-op Group own the majority of the land on the Meridian Site and they have appointed a preferred developer - Henry Davidson Developments Limited (HDD). HDD will in due course be consulting on their plans and they will be responsible for an actual planning application. Osteopathy tips - accessing and facilitating the changes you seek January is a month often started full of good intentions for better health and better habits on many levels. Whilst this is a great intention, it can often be unrealistic, overstated and lead to underachievement, disappointment and reverting back to our old ways even before we get to February. One of the best intentions we can have for ourselves is acceptance - acceptance of ourselves as we are, for who we are, where we are and what we do. From this point of loving kindness, we can realise that we are always doing the very best we can with where we are at this moment, so that we can get out of our own way and get on. Learning good breathing and relaxation techniques are great ways to be in the present moment; it is also good to seek help when we need it. Sometimes, we have issues that we are not aware of that hold us back. These can be issues stuck in our tissues because the body tissues hold memories from every past experience. Neuroscientist Candace Pert, PhD in her book Molecules of Emotion, explains how the same neurotransmitters responsible for laying down memory in the brain are found in the body tissues, particularly the organs. I notice how patients are more easily able to move on from past limitations once the issues are released from the tissues. This cannot be forced, and the body's own 'divine' timing needs to be respected. Issues can also be stuck in old thinking; our unconscious mind is that part of us that knows everything that has ever happened to us and always looks out for our best interests. Sometimes, this caring can be related to past experience that is out of date and no longer serving us, in fact it may be limiting our current life experience. Clinical Psychologist Efrat Ginot, PhD in her research, PMID: 28618454 2017, offers a new view of the unconscious that emphasizes the ever-present influence of ongoing unconscious processes on much of our behaviours and mental states, based on the functional unity of the brain/mind. Hypnotherapy and Core Transformations are like a deep relaxation, where you are fully conscious and in control and can be guided to have clearer access to the workings of your inner self and make the subtle, yet powerful changes needed to enrich your life experience.
Issues can be stuck in our energy and subtle bodies and chakras. These issues can relate to ourselves, our connection to others as well as past events. We all know when we feel good 'vibes' or less than good 'vibes' from someone or something - everything has a vibration and we 'feel' this with our nervous system and our subtle energy bodies. Research Fellow/Biophysicist Christina Ross, PhD BCPP believes that depletions in the flow or energy throughout the body are the basis for all disease; her research PMID: 30834177 2019, focuses on future perspectives including understanding cellular voltage potentials and how they relate to health and wellness, the overlap between the endocrine and chakra systems and understanding how energy medicine therapeutically enhances psychoneuroimmunology (mindbody) medicine. Quantum physics teaches that there is no difference between energy and matter and the ancient yogic teachings have always addressed energy. There are many gentle ways to work with cleansing these issues, including Sound Therapy with Tuning Forks, Bowls, Gong Bath Relaxation, Voice Therapy, Colour, Light, Breathing and Meditation and many other energy and healing techniques. Chat to me to help you design a tailor-made program to suit your needs to make the changes you desire: ● Various treatment options, including Osteopathy (including Cranial and Visceral), Kinesiology, Nutritional/Biochemical help, Sound Therapy, Coaching/NLP/Hypnotherapy/Core Transformations ● Stress Relief using a variety of methods, including Breathing, Relaxation, Biochemical/Nutritional support for stress, Hypnotherapy, Gong Relaxation as well as taster sessions. ● Yoga classes - group sessions in Yoga (Chair and Mat from beginners/introduction to advanced), Breathing, Gong Relaxation ● I have videos on YouTube covering many aspects of the above.
