welcom e to Pe achtree Presby terian Church Where everyone is welcome, nobody is perfect, and anything is possible.

Today’s message I Believe In Doubt: Does Science Disprove God? Scripture: Psalm 8 Preacher: Vic Pentz at 8:45, 10:00 and 11:15 a.m. In all three services this morning, we celebrate the sacrament of baptism. Baptism of infants is one way we look to the future. As we welcome these children into our fellowship, we also pledge that we will nurture their faith in the hope that they will one day profess their own faith in Jesus Christ.

BAPTISM SUNDAY Assemble in god’s name Prelude....................................................................................................Nicholas Bowden *Congregational Introit (Please stand and join in singing together) Christ is Made the Sure Foundation.....................................WESTMINSTER ABBEY

Isaac Watts first published I Sing the Mighty Power of God in 1715 in a volume of songs for children. He kept his texts simple so that all could understand and sing God’s praise. “My design was not to exalt myself to the rank and glory of poets, but I was ambitious to be a servant to the churches, and a helper to the joy of the meanest Christian.” Watts started writing poetry at age 8 and his first hymn at 15.

This I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; they are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

** Life of the Congregation Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. John Rutter wrote the simple words and music for Look at the World as a song of thanksgiving, a recognition that every good and perfect thing in the world comes from God.

Offering Our Gifts Look at the World ....................................................................................John Rutter The Chancel Choir L ook at the world, everything all around us: Look at the world, and marvel every day. Look at the world: so many joys and wonders, So many miracles along our way. Refrain: Praise to Thee, O Lord, for all creation, Give us thankful hearts, that we may see: All the gifts we share, and every blessing, All things come of Thee. Look at the earth bringing forth fruit and flower; Look at the sky, the sunshine and the rain; Look at the hills, look at the tress and mountains, Valley and flowing river, field and plain. (Refrain) Think of the spring, think of the warmth of summer Bringing the harvest before the winter’s cold. Everything grows, everything has a season, Till it is gathered to the Father’s fold. (Refrain) Every good gift, all that we need and cherish Comes from the Lord in token of His love; We are His hands, stewards of all His bounty; His is the earth, and His the heavens above. (Refrain)

*Hymn of Thanksgiving Holy, Holy, Holy (all singing)...........................................................................NICAEA Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning, our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty. God in three Persons, blessed Trinity: Amen!

Listen to god’s word read and proclaimed I Believe in Doubt: Does Science Disprove God?.............................................................Vic Pentz Senior Pastor Psalm 8.....................................................................................................Pew Bible, page 842 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. 2 Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 1

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? 5 You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. 3

You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, 8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 6

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Caught in a violent thunderstorm in 1886, Swedish pastor, Carl Boberg, fell to his knees as the sun quickly reappeared and the birds began to sing. In awe and adoration, Boberg wrote 9 stanzas of praise to God which his congregation sang to an old folk tune. This text was later translated into English by a missionary to the Ukraine, Stuart Hine, who brought it home to England as war broke out in 1939.

The Language of Science and Faith: Straight Answers to Genuine Questions By Karl W. Giberson

Christians affirm that everything exists because of God--from subatomic quarks to black holes. Science often claims to explain nature without including God at all. And thinking Christians often feel forced to choose between the two. But the good news is that we don’t have to make a choice. Science does not overthrow the Bible. World-renowned scientist Francis Collins, along with fellow scientist Karl Giberson, show how we can embrace both. The authors disentangle the false conclusions of Christians and atheists alike about science and evolution from the actual results of research in astronomy, physics, geology and genetics. In its place they find a story of the grandeur and beauty of a world made by a supremely creative God. Available in the Peachtree Bookstore and the Williams Center. 14
