Prayer of Confession Gracious God, giver of all good things in this life, we confess that we are easily drawn to cheap copies of your gifts. We crave the momentary pleasure and the quick reward. We live our days clutching at life, driven to acquire and keep. In these days of Advent teach us to live by your grace. In love you gave your son to this world. In obedience he gave his life that we might know peace with you and with each other. As we have received, so teach us to give, extending your grace in a grasping world. Fill us with your generous Spirit even now as we offer our silent prayers of confession...

Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

*Those who are able, please stand. ** Ushers will seat latecomers at this time. If your young child needs attention during worship, live broadcasts of the service are available in The Williams Center, and the Mothers and Infants Room off of the Williams Center.

They are the gift of Vic’s Prayer Team.

Today is the second Sunday of Advent. Advent is a season of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus on Christmas. Advent candles help us keep watch for the coming of Jesus. We begin in darkness, lighting a candle each Sunday until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve we light the Christ candle, celebrating the birth of Jesus, the Light of the World. Today we relight the candle of hope and we will light the candle for the second Sunday in Advent, the candle of peace . As we prepare for the coming of Jesus, we remember that Jesus is our hope and our peace.

NEW CHURCH BELLS This morning we will ring for the first time the new Peachtree Carillon bells. They are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Ruth Ann Skinner and Lisa Skinner Moton. They are given by Frank Skinner and his family, Ruthanne Skinner Suttles, Christian Skinner Kirkland, and Dr. John Kirkland, Jr. It is especially appropriate that we ring the bells for the first time on this day when we celebrate and honor the faith of the next generation of Peachtree represented here by 95 confirmation students. Frank and Ruth Ann have been champions for raising the next generation of young Christians in Peachtree’s ministry and building programs.

CONFIRMATION 2013 December 8, 2013 Today at Peachtree we celebrate the Confirmation class of 2013 as they make their professions of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and become members of Peachtree. 95 students have spent the past four months growing as disciples, learning scripture and theology, and building new friendships. Pray for these students in this important faith commitment and rite-of-passage. Glenn Adamson
