Angels We Have Heard on High - #158 Lighting of the Candles Lighting of the Advent Wreath Placement of the Bible Prayer of Confession Merciful God, you came to us in weakness and vulnerability, lacking social status and wealth. We confess that what you freely embraced we work hard to avoid. We fear being weak. We guard our social standing. We chase wealth and the comforts it gives us. In your humility you lived with true power. In our strength we find we are often powerless. Forgive the misguided direction of our lives and grant us grace to walk in your steps. Help us to find life by giving it away, even as you gave your life for us. We open our hands in these moments as we offer silent prayers of confession. Assurance of God’s Forgiveness

ADVENT SUNDAY Today is the third Sunday of Advent. Advent is a season of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus on Christmas. Advent candles help us keep watch for the coming of Jesus. We begin in darkness, lighting a candle each Sunday until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve we light a fifth candle, celebrating the birth of Jesus, the Light of the World. Today, we relight the candles of hope and peace and we light the third candle of Advent. This is the candle of joy. As the coming of Jesus, our Savior, draws nearer, our joy builds with our anticipation of his birth. 2013 END OF YEAR GIVING As the year draws to a close, there are three ways to make your 2013 gifts comply with I.R.S. regulations: • Check - Your check must be dated and postmarked by December 31, 2013, to be included in your 2013 giving. • Stock - The stock must be in the church’s account by December 31, 2013, to be included in your 2013 giving. It is important that you initiate this transfer by December 20th to allow for the year-end delay in transfers being completed. To obtain transfer information and to notify the church of your gift, please contact Lynn Dawson at 404-842-5841 or email at ldawson@peachtreepres.org. (Your stock gift does not come with your name attached so we do not know the donor unless you let us know.) • Credit Card - Submit your gift online with a credit card. As with any gift, the transaction must be completed by December 31, 2013, to be included in your 2013 giving. You can do this by going to the church’s web site, peachtreepres.org, and clicking on the “Giving” link. Just follow the steps. You will receive an email confirmation when your charge goes through. For convenience, the Finance Office will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. December 27 & 30 and from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on December 31st.
