Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Call to Worship Leader: Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.

Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

People: Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

Leader: Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. ALL: Your Word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations.

GIVE PRAISE TO GOD **Hymn of Praise

God of Grace and God of Glory - #358 Lighting of the Candles Placement of the Bible Prayer of Confession Gracious and loving God, we confess today that we have not loved you with all that we are. The affections of our heart are so often divided, treasuring your gifts above you the giver. The thoughts of our mind are so easily distracted, drawn to worry rather than prayer. Forgive us and renew us in heart and mind that we might live for your glory in all that we do. We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus who went to the cross and rose again that we might be confident of your mercy. Amen.

Offering Our Gifts I Lift Up Mine Eyes (8:45 & 11:15).......................................Allen Pote I Won’t Let Go (10:00).........................................................Mark A. Amen.

The beautiful flowers in the Sanctuary this morning are given to the glory of God and in Loving Memory of Peggy and A. J. Gordon. They are the gift of their daughter, Judy Collier. *Those who are able, please stand. ** Ushers will seat latecomers at this time. If your young child needs attention during worship, live broadcasts of the service are available in The Williams Center, and the Mothers and Infants Room off of the Williams Center.

The human body is a growing theme in contemporary culture. From tattoos and substance use to an increased focus on sexuality as a means for self identity reveal a relaxation with and for the body as a vehicle for self-expression.

MY BODY

Ironically, much of this seeming love for the body is a current version of an ancient heresy, the denial of the body. The Gnostics espoused this early church heresy and believed in the mind, but not the body. Because the body was nothing, they believed it was disposable - they

TEMPLE

could do anything with it and to it, and it didn’t matter.

The Bible teaches something different - that we don’t

BABIES

have a body, but that we are a body, made in God’s image. My Body...His Temple explores what it means to be made by God. Don’t accept the tyranny of others who would tell you how good your body is. Your body is you, it is made by God, and it is of sacred value.
