CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP

Peachtree is a community of Jesus followers inviting people to follow God in heart, mind, and strength.

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME Prelude

Congregational Introit* Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation Prayer of Adoration*

GIVE PRAISE TO GOD

Hymn of Praise** We Gather Together  Not in hymnal Lighting of the Candles Placing the Bibles Prayer of Confession Gracious and loving God, from the very first days of life we begin a journey that leads us to self-sufficiency. With the passing of years we work hard to make our own decisions, to achieve our goals, and to provide for ourselves. And yet, we confess that our most diligent efforts do not address our deepest need. We are not sufficient for our own salvation. In learning to stand alone we have refused to lean on you. Even at our best, we need your grace and mercy. Forgive our stubborn refusal to turn to you, and awaken us to our need. In this season of Advent, lead us to repentance as we await your son, our savior. Begin this work among us even now as we continue our confession in silence… Assurance of God’s Forgiveness Congregational Response* O Little Town of Bethlehem  #171 (v. 4) Life of the Congregation**

Invitation to Prayer Of the Father’s Love Begotten Of the Father’s love begotten, Ere the worlds began to be, He is Alpha and Omega, He the Source, the Ending He, Of the things that are, that have been, And that future years shall see, Evermore and evermore! Christ, to Thee with God the Father, And, O Holy Ghost, to Thee, Hymn and chant and high thanksgiving And unwearied praises be: Honor, glory, and dominion, And eternal victory, Evermore and evermore! Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Children don’t get weary, Children don’t get weary, Children don’t get weary ’Til your work is done. Christian journey soon be over, Christian journey soon be over, Christian journey soon be over, The time is drawing nigh.

Every year, we turn on lights. We put up trees. We decorate to excess in the expectation that something will happen. There’s something magical about the season, or so we hope. It’s ironic that at Christmastime, the very things that we most treasure can leave us feeling empty. It’s easy to get caught in the rush and then wake up after the holiday is over and realize that the real Christmas passed us by. Some people celebrate Christmas yet miss it altogether. Others find it. It depends on where you look, and what you see. A new series begins today.

ADVENT SUNDAY

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is a season of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus on Christmas. Advent candles help us keep watch for the coming of Jesus. We begin in darkness, lighting a candle each Sunday until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve we light the Christ candle, celebrating the birth of Jesus, the Light of the World.
