WELCOME
Welcome to the 30th SIRF Stockton Council and Arts Council England have the pleasure of inviting you to the birthday of their 30 year old Festival. Wow, 30 years old already! SIRF has been around for long enough to change the way Stockton thinks about itself, becoming our signature event. A lot of visitors to SIRF 17 will have been before, grown up with international street art, developed a taste for the best without even realising how discerning they’ve become. Those who’ve not been before and are reading this contemplating what to see and how long to stay, be prepared to be intrigued, entertained, puzzled, moved and made to laugh out loud. See the big shows and the small stuff, come early and stay late, be patient with the slow burners and rocked by the spectacle. Whatever you do, don’t miss it, it’s free, it’s on for 4 days, it’s the best around, and as the German discount retailer might say – once it’s gone it’s gone. BOUAZIZI
Bouazizi is based on the story of Mohammed Bouazizi, a Tunisian man who sparked the Arab Spring revolution when he set himself on fire. The performance revolves around the media and the manipulation of power, reflecting a reality in which we are all a part of. With a 360° stage, you’ll see the performance from all angles. In every corner there are different things happening, all seen from another point of view. Just like news reporting, or reality itself, if you see something only from one angle you see it incomplete. Insectotropics are masters in the art of mixing painting, theatre, video and music; the company of audiovisual explorers. Advice for parents; this show is not suitable for children under 12 years old
