Conceptual Architecture - Fenomenology
CUBE 13 Conceptual Archietcture Location: Campo Valdez. Medellin, Colombia Prof. Eduardo Peñaloza Prof. Leonardo Correa Winter 2015 Academic Distinction: Honorable Mention (Best Conceptual proyect)
Located in Medellin, Colombia, “Comuna 13” is known municipaly by its very inclined topography. When a site recognition was developed, it was observed that this characteristic helped shape the people who live here into versatile and resilient persons. The comuna is famous for the amount of houses it has, considering how limited its space is. People in the area take use of every little space available. 5 major spatial fenomenons where found. Change, mobility, adaptability, connectiviy and rupturing. % models where constructed for
each one of this fenomenons, and where then put together in a single conception of what represents the Comnua 13

Public Use - Architecture for Aging
SOLAR III Public Use Building - Geriatric Center Location: Campo Valdez. Medellin, Colombia Prof. Juan Fernando Florez juanfergomez@gmail.com Winter 2015 Academic Distinction: Honorable Mention (Best public building proyect)
Through the mature aging stages of our life, one of the most mentally hindering conditions is the inability to continue with the phisical activities on our lifes by ourselfs. In this public geriatric center, reduced mobility was a main focus. The concept of the building is to allow complete mobility and independece of its users, with any type of disability. The topographic placement was designed with a central ramp, carrying the users throughout any level to an interior courtyard or “solar that captures the essence
of the site: two beautiful water streams that pass through the site giving it life and refreshing the entire area.

Funded in 1930, Campo Valdes, is one of the most well known traditional districs of Medellin. It is located on the northeastern side of the city, placing it in a privilaged closeness to the city center. It is adjacent to city famous “Jardin BotĂĄnicoâ€? , making it a very well located neighborhoud Its population consists of middle-class working people, with the majority being ages 55 and older. The proyect site, signaled in red, is to be one of the 7 proyects

conforming the urban intervention to be developed in the studio, designed to bring back life to the districts water sources and return them to the districs population.
Demographics
Vegetation Green masses account of the lowest temperature areas, and these tend to follow the water sources in the area.
Sound Being close to the city center, noise pollution can reach high levels in the area, making the inside of the urban blocks the most quiet areas.
Accesibility The urban squares are permeable, making it easy for the inside to be accesed. This creates a semi-public space on their inside.
Temperature Water sources and green spaces cool down the district, again, making the inside of the district blocks the most calm.
Distric Blocks Campo Valdes is made up of 80x80m blocks, with exceptions on those on which water sources are present.
Topography The districts topography shows various water sources being canalized in important areas, giving the oportunity for a design strategy.

Public Use - Health + Design ACSA Designing Healthy Places
Building Strenght Cancer Resistance Center
Public Use Building Location: Hollywood Florida, United States Prof. Emad Afifi eafifi@scad.edu Fall 2017 Academic Distinction: ACSA Competition Nominee
When cancer cells start reproducing in our body our immune system weakens. Common cancer treatments focus on atacking and killing cancer cells, but they do nothing to help our body build strength in a time when it is needed the most. The concept of the building is to provide a path designed to facilitate four major lifestyle changes: Avoiding toxins, managing stress, excerizese, and correcting diet. This four pilars for making our body
resist cancer translated into modules that formed interior patios when displaced. The patios act as filters of everything that might hinder a proper recovery. The building invites to take action and regain control of your life. As the user walks through each module he is prompted to make a life style change.
The project was selected to be part of the ACSA Designing Healthy Places competition.

The building’s roofs are tilted inward. This allows rain water to be collected and used to water vegetation in the interior patios. Excess water is filtered within the building and redirected towards the Tribute park, where it creates a water mirror around the sculpture built by cancer survivors. The path made by the water connecting the building to the board walk faces the ocean and invites the user to take control and be a part of the world once again.

Urban Planning - Master Plan
Consolidación Verde “Green Consolidation” Master Plan Location: La Estrella, Antioquia, Colombia Prof. Catalina Montoya catalina.montoyaarenas@ upb.edu.co Winter 2016 Academic Distinction 2nd: Honorable Mention (Best public space proyect)
The studio’s objective is to develop diferent scales of analisis and design of a public space proyect. A detailed investigation must pave way to a detailed public space proposal master plan for the municipality of La Estrella. At a large scale, students must work in group to develop a large public structure proposal. The students must identify the diferent systems that conform a public structure and develop ideas for improvement on each one of them. This ideas must later
come together to form a large scale proposal of public space for La Estrella. This excersice will then be followed by an individual development of a proyect inside the public space structure.

Lineal parcks are determined throguhout the water sources, this lineal parcks delimit the consolidated zone of “La Estrella. A green transversality is planned to break thorugh the city to form nodes of public activity. In addition, interior blocks will be activated as public space, giving pedestrians priority. 8 public space proyects are to be formulated to develop a public space city plan.

After devolping a master plan for a public space proposal in La Estrella, the student must individualy develop a proyect inside the big proposal. This development must be in concert with the master plan and contribute to the correct articulation of all the involved systems: Existing public space, natural structure, mobility and accesibility, service buildings, socio-cultural, and morphology.

Mobiliary Design
The public space project aims to reclaim existing water sources and provide a place for the city to enjoy. Delimit the available space with a bike and pedestrian path. After this, a activity node building is proposed, with spaces for multiple activities. The form and placement of the building is designed to relieve terrain pressure on the water source and provide a walkable area with enjoyable water.
