WILDERNESSE HOUSE

WILDERNESSE HOUSE

Welcome to

WILDERNESSE HOUSE Surrounded by rolling Kent countryside, the Wildernesse estate has borne witness to great moments and characters of English history. A chestnut tree planted in 1509 to celebrate Henry VIII’s first marriage gives shade to the estate’s pathways, while an avenue of lime trees stands in commemoration of a visit from the Duke of Wellington in 1815. Today, Wildernesse House has been restored to its former glory, hosting a collection of 23 one and two bedroom apartments in the main house, together with a series of 8 newly built mews houses on the site of the old stable block. Restoration experts at Purcell have preserved as many of the original features as possible. From revarnishing the hardwood doors and revealing the mosaic-tiled floors to refurbishing the original grand fireplaces and cast-iron radiators, they have brought the history of the house safely into the present day.

The driveway leading to Wildernesse House winds beneath ancient trees and across parkland before passing the rose garden that borders the arrival court. From there it bends round to the row of two and three storey mews houses. The mews houses and main house apartments benefit from access to all that’s on offer across the estate, from the spa and the newly built restaurant, to the various lawns and gardens that populate the extensive grounds.

WILDERNESSE HOUSE

WILDERNESSE HOUSE

Life on the

WILDERNESSE ESTATE The way of life here is in keeping with that of a traditional English country house: the General Manager and the front of house team are on hand to deal with any requests, and the different areas across the estate are designed to benefit the health, relaxation and social lives of those who live here. In the main house, the reception area leads through to the main hall, where the lounge brings people together for an after-dinner drink from the honesty bar. On the lower ground floor, the spa is the place to unwind in the steam room, sauna or swimming pool. If the weather’s fine, gather some friends for a game of doubles on the tennis court, before enjoying a post-match drink on the comfortable seating by the sundial folly. A short stroll from the mews houses, the restaurant uses seasonal ingredients and fresh produce to serve some of the best food in Kent. All this is set within the estate’s extensive and varied grounds, with smart lawns, inspiring gardens and ancient trees.

THE MAIN HALL AND LOUNGE The reception area leads through to the main hall, with its lounge area and central staircase. Credenzas section the lounge into cosy clusters of armchairs and sofas. Inside one of the credenzas, there’s a secret bar, so those in the know can enjoy an afterdinner drink with good company. Beyond the lounge is the historic central staircase. The restored bookshelves line the walls in this part of the room, so you’ll always find a good book to settle down with in the lounge.

SPA A spa covers the lower ground floor of the main house. For those looking to workout, there’s a fully equipped gym, a lap pool, and stretch studio. Or if you simply want to unwind, you’ll find a sauna, treatment rooms, a salt and steam room, and a wellness lounge. Staff there can advise you on the treatments and classes available, and tell you about the benefits of the different areas of the spa.

RESTAURANT Across the sloping lawns from the main house, the restaurant is a new structure that is reminiscent of the Victorian glasshouse that once stood beside the main building. From the welcoming entrance lobby, you can see the informal café and kitchen. This casual dining area serves light meals for breakfast and lunch. The main restaurant is the place to enjoy a sit-down meal with table service. The chef and kitchen staff serve seasonal dishes with ingredients sourced from local suppliers and the kitchen gardens.

GUEST SUITES Two guest suites are available on the second floor in the main house. Guests are welcome to make use of the spa, the restaurant and all that Wildernesse House has to offer. Guest suite bookings can be made with your General Manager.

The

MAIN HOUSE APARTMENTS The two-bedroom apartments in the main house are spacious and light, with open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas. There are several styles of apartment, each with flexible spaces that can be used to provide an additional study or dressing room. Open-plan living areas are designed to optimise the natural light, kitchens have fully integrated appliances and a pantry area, and bedrooms are light and airy, with plenty of storage space. The tiled bathrooms have mirrored cabinets and either a bath or a walk-in shower.

The

MEWS HOUSES Alongside the main house, the site of the old stable block now hosts a charming collection of newly built mews houses. These two-bedroom houses have open-plan living areas, fully equipped kitchens and spacious bedrooms filled with natural light. Each house has its own reserved parking space, its own private boiler and a sheltered outdoor terrace. The three storey houses also benefit from a generous dressing room alongside the master bedroom.

Introducing PegasusLife

PegasusLife is a business on a mission to fundamentally rethink and reinvent the places and ways in which we live as we get older. The company is currently in the process of developing 30 sites across the UK.

Howard Phillips, Chief Executive Officer Our central idea is that everyone shares an aspiration to live independently within an intelligently designed, socially inclusive environment, supported by an intuitive service offer and an efficient and ethical approach to property management.

A unique approach to property management

John Nordon, Design Director In the design team, our work is about creating imaginative places that foster natural interactions between neighbours. Our approach doesn’t follow a ‘cookie cutter’ style. No two PegasusLife developments are the same. Each one carefully conceptualises the history, architectural character, culture and personality of its location and, most critically, embodies the spirit of the people we believe will want to live in it. We make use of the highest-quality materials and craftsmanship – not just to create beautiful places for people to live, but to protect the future of our customers’ homes and investments. We take the architectural legacy of cities and towns seriously, and we prioritise developing sustainable buildings that are sympathetic to their surroundings.

Lorena Brown, Sales & Marketing Director Our approach to selling is based very much on our core value of transparency. Many of our customers are moving from more traditional freehold family homes and won’t have lived in modern apartments set within communal developments before. There are significant advantages to this way of living; however, it is different. We see it as our responsibility to make sure not only that we’ve communicated what it’s about but also that our audience has understood it.

Working in collaboration with the country’s leading designers, academics, creative thinkers and producers, we ensure that the highest level of detail and quality is brought to all aspects of our developments.

One of the major hallmarks of our approach is the way we’ve considered property management – which we run on behalf of our residents on a not-for-profit basis. Furthermore, when customers purchase a property with PegasusLife, they become shareholders of the developments management company, guaranteeing them voting rights and a say in how their development is managed.

Mark Shirburne Davies, Chief Operations Officer

Clare Bacchus, Customer Experience Director

We strive to meet the needs and expectations of the people who live in our developments now and those who may choose to in the future. Working with partners who share our goal, we look to create places to which people can aspire. From purchasing land through to the planning and construction phase and beyond, we ensure each development is unique, valuable and of the utmost quality.

Our starting point in everything we do is the people who choose to live in our developments. What will they want to do here? What type and style of service is appropriate? What kind of living environment do we need to create to generate the right atmosphere and give people the experience they’re looking for? This philosophy goes right down to the level of detail of considering which plants to include in the gardens and which furnishings to use in the development. It extends through to the type of attitude we look for in the team we recruit to deliver a personal, informal and efficient approach to service.

Our role continues when our developments are up and running. We work in tandem with the next set of delivery partners − our hosts and concierges − to make sure the PegasusLife difference is there for everyone to see, every day.

When we talk about maintenance, we mean much more than a lick of paint or changing a light bulb (although we will, of course, take care of that too). Wildernesse House is a large estate with a Grade II listed building and additional outbuildings. Its restoration gives it specific requirements for maintenance, which we’ll make sure are met. This ensures that your investment is secure and you can enjoy living in an environment that improves rather than deteriorates with age. From looking after the centuries-old timber panelling in the main house to maintaining the tennis court, the approach is tailor-made and detail-oriented. The management company for Wildernesse House is run on a strict not-for-profit basis. This ensures that work is carried out solely for the purposes of caring for the building and maintaining the quality of the offer and experience of living here for the residents. On purchasing a property on the Wildernesse estate, residents automatically become shareholders of the management company, together with PegasusLife, giving you voting rights and a say in how the company is managed and run. When it comes to the operation of the management company, we believe passionately that true transparency is fundamental to maintaining residents’ peace of mind and the management company’s integrity. For this reason, we’ve invested in creating our own digital tool for property management – an online members-only system, which is designed to provide you with a detailed understanding of how your money is spent on servicing Wildernesse House and to enable you to keep track of expenditure on, and investment in, the building over time.
