August Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Postpartum Support Group Thursdays, August 1 – 22, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center, Cardiac Rehab Solarium 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport First Floor Community Room, Biscone Building 119 Northport Avenue, Belfast The group alternates locations weekly, 1st and 3rd Thursday at PBMC and 2nd and 4th Thursday at WCGH. We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk, listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences. Childbirth Preparation Class Saturday, August 3, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Waldo County General Hospital, Classroom, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Topics covered include signs of labor; what to expect at the hospital; stages of labor; pain relief options including relaxation, breathing, medications and epidural; complications; Caesarean birth and other questions you may have. Breastfeeding Support Group Mondays, August 5 – 26, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (Every Monday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) Waldo County General Hospital, Women & Infants Unit, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Meet other new mothers who are breastfeeding. The group offers support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers from certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors. Siblings are welcome. Cancer Support Group Tuesdays, August 6 and 20, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Oncology & Infusion Therapy, Waldo County General Hospital 116 Northport Avenue, Ludwig Medical Building, Belfast This group is for cancer patients at any stage – newly diagnosed, currently in treatment and long-term survivors. A cancer diagnosis can be scary and can feel isolating; support groups offer a network of comfort, recognition and guidance. The group is facilitated by Ashley Hoffmann, LSW and Claudia B. Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting Tuesday, August 6, noon to 2:00 p.m. (First Tuesday of each month) Anderson Inn, Quarry Hill, 30 Community Drive, Camden The support group’s August meeting will begin with a presentation by occupational therapist and Pathways Driving Rehab Services owner Heather Shields, OTR/L, CDRS, on issues related to driving that are of particular concern to those living with Parkinson’s. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome.
