January Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Alzheimer's Disease Support Group Tuesday, Jan. 3, 6 p.m. Virtual Meeting The Alzheimer’s Support Group provides information and support to area residents who have loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Currently the group is meeting via Zoom. Free. Those interested should contact Cheri R. Blouin, LSW, at 301-6237 or at cheri.blouin@mainehealth.org for the meeting details. Gentle Birth Tuesdays, Jan. 3-17, 6 to 8 p.m. Virtual class Enjoy this new approach to child birth class that will empower your positive birth experience through preparation. This class will include training and education in mindfulness, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and sports psychology. A mobile app will also be able to enhance the learning experience. Held Support Group Tuesday, Jan. 3, 6 to 7 p.m. Beebe Center, 15 Anchor Drive, Rockport This support group provides a safe space for families grieving a miscarriage or pregnancy loss. Join Leah Kohlstrom and Claire Philbrook the first Tuesday of each month to explore grief with tea and the occasional activity. Breastfeeding Support Group Wednesdays, Jan. 4-25, 11 a.m. to noon Beebe Center, 15 Anchor Drive, Rockport This informal support group for breastfeeding families provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Facilitated by a lactation consultant from the Women and Infants unit. Because of room occupancy restraints, we are limited to a maximum of seven moms with babies in arms. Siblings not allowed at this time. Please call 301-8337 for more information. Breastfeeding Basics Class Wednesday, Jan. 4, 6 to 8 p.m. Virtual class This single two-hour class provides a pre-birth opportunity to ask questions and learn about breastfeeding and returning to work. Happy Wanderers Hiking Group: Fernald's Neck Preserve Thursday, Jan. 6, 10 a.m. to noon Fernald's Neck Preserve, Lincolnville Community Health and Coastal Mountains Land Trust is launching into the new year with monthly guided hikes, free and open to all ability levels. This hike is 1.8 miles and the level is moderate. Please leave pets at home for these group outings. This hike will be led by CMLT staff members and a Community Health team member. Navigating Concussion Recovery Tuesday, Jan. 17, noon to 1 p.m. Virtual meeting Healing from a brain injury takes a long time. A Matter of Balance Tuesdays, Jan. 24 - March 14, 1 to 3 p.m. Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., Rockland Join staff from the Community Health team for this eight-week series, co-sponsored with the Rockland Public Library. Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. A Matter of Balance is a program designed for community dwelling adults age 60 and older to increase activity levels and reduce the fear of falling. If you are concerned about falls, have sustained falls in the past, or are interested in improving your flexibility, balance and strength, this class is for you. Registration is required.
