December Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Breastfeeding Support Group Mondays, December 2 – 30, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

(Every Monday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) Waldo County General Hospital, Women & Infants Unit, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Meet other new mothers who are breastfeeding. The group offers support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers from certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors. Siblings are welcome. Fight the Flu Tuesday, December 3, 6:30 to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Waldo County General Hospital, Classroom, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Belfast Public Health Nursing will provide free flu shots to adult Belfast residents. Please call 505-4040 for more information.

Cancer Support Group Tuesdays, December 3 and 17, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.

Oncology & Infusion Therapy, Waldo County General Hospital 116 Northport Avenue, Ludwig Medical Building, Belfast This group is for cancer patients at any stage – newly diagnosed, currently in treatment and long-term survivors. A cancer diagnosis can be scary and can feel isolating; support groups offer a network of comfort, recognition and guidance. The group is facilitated by Ashley Hoffmann, LSW and Claudia B. Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting Tuesday, December 3, noon to 2:00 p.m.

(First Tuesday of each month) Anderson Inn, Quarry Hill, 30 Community Drive, Camden For its final gathering of the calendar year, the support group will hold a holiday celebration, followed by the usual small-group discussions centered on life with Parkinson’s. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite holiday treats to share during the party. Open to those living with Parkinson’s, their family members and caregivers. Mother’s Milk Support Group Tuesdays, December 3 – 31, 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. or 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Pen Bay Medical Center, Chapel Room, 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport A support group for breastfeeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed.

Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Facilitated by a lactation consultant from OB/GYN. Drop-in group, please call 301-8337 for more information.

Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group Tuesday, December 3, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Postpartum Support Group Thursdays, December 5 – 19, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Pen Bay Medical Center, Cardiac Rehab Solarium 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport Community Room, Biscone Building, 119 Northport Avenue, Belfast The group alternates locations weekly, 1st and 3rd Thursday at PBMC and 2nd and 4th Thursday at WCGH (no group on Thanksgiving). We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk, listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences.

Waldo County General Hospital, Classroom, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Topics covered include signs of labor; what to expect at the hospital; stages of labor; pain relief options including relaxation, breathing, medications and epidural; complications; Caesarean birth and other questions you may have. Concussion Support Group Tuesday, December 10, 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.

(Second Tuesday of each month) Biscone Medical Building, 119 Northport Avenue, Belfast Join facilitator Moriah Grant, OTD, OTR/L, for this informative and interactive support group where you can share your struggles with concussion; learn more about concussions, treatment and outcomes; and connect with others who have had similar experiences. This support group alternates monthly between the Picker Family Resource Center in Rockport and the Biscone Medical Building in Belfast. It is also available via telepractice. Preparing for Childbirth Saturday, December 14, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Picker Family Resource Center, 756 Commercial Street, Rockport Join Leah Kohlstrom, doula and childbirth educator, for this engaging class to learn all about childbirth, including how to plan for delivery, the stages of labor and caring for your newborn. This class will answer your questions so you can better prepare for your birthing experience. There will be an hour break for lunch. $60 registration fee is required and covers mom and partner.
