Pen Bay Healthcare & Waldo County Healthcare “Freshstart” Smoking Cessation Tuesdays, May 5, 12, 19, 26, 5:30 – 7 p.m. Picker Family Resource Center, 3 Glen Cove Drive, Suite 2, Rockport

Freshstart will help you stop smoking as quickly as possible and learn new techniques for ending your physical and psychological need to smoke. A series of four classes taught by Tobacco Treatment Specialist Carla-Jo Kaler. Free. Call 921-8950 to register. Space is limited.

Parkinson’s Support Group Tuesday, May 5, Noon to 1:45 p.m. at Anderson Inn Quarry Hill, 30 Community Drive, Camden

Spectrum Generations aging and disability counselor Gloria Rhode will discuss community services available at no cost to older adults and those with disabilities at the May meeting of the area’s Parkinson’s Support Group. Free & open to the public.

“Let’s Understand Stroke” Wednesday, May 6, 6 – 7:30 p.m. Picker Family Resource Center, 3 Glen Cove Drive, Suite 2, Rockport

As part of Stroke Awareness Month, the Eileen Hawkins of the Pen Bay Primary Stroke Center is offering a free one hour public educational presentation on stroke and stroke awareness. The program will be held at the Picker Family Resource Center and will cover local and national stroke statistics, how strokes happen, different types of stroke, the warning signs of stroke, stroke prevention and stroke therapies. Free. Call 921-8950 to register. Space is limited.

“Run Across America” Wednesday, May 6, 5:30 – 8 p.m. Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St, Camden

Helene is a nurse, grandmother, author, health activist and cancer survivor. At age 50, she decided to become one more thing — a transcontinental runner to challenge what’s impossible through action and inspire others to do the same. She is on course to complete a long distance record setting run around the perimeter of the Continental United States. Helene is changing the footprint of health. Her noble mission of motivating others towards improved health awakens the human spirit - one state, one mile.

“Strollin' Colon” Thursday, May 7, TIME to TIME Waldo somewhere

3 more days until Strollin' for the Colon. Still time left to register for this great cause. It's going to be a Great event. This event is dedicated to all survivors and all loved ones we have lost to Colon Cancer. Livingston and Monroe County Cancer Prevention Services will also be on hand with educational materials. GioVanna's will be catering a great lunch to purchase, and you can listen or dance to the great sounds of Trilogy.
