February Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Alzheimer's Disease Support Group Tuesday, February 1, 6:00 p.m. Virtual Meeting The Alzheimer’s Support Group provides information and support to area residents who have loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Currently the group is meeting via Zoom. Free. Those interested in participating should contact Cheri R. Blouin, LSW, at 301-6237 or at cblouin@pbmc.org for the meeting details. Take a Break with Guided Meditation Wednesday, February 2 - 23, noon to 12:30 p.m. Virtual class Making time in your day to recharge can be as simple as tuning in for as much of this short meditation break as you can. The class will begin with a 15 to 20 minute guided meditation, followed by five minutes of silent meditation and a brief time for reflections and questions. Happy Wanderers Hking Group: Thorndike Brook Trail, Hope Thursday, February 3, 10:00 a.m. to noon Thorndike Brook Trail, Hope Coastal Mountains Land Trust is launching into the new year with monthly guided hikes, free and open to all ability levels. This hike is 1.8 miles and the level is moderate. The group will meet at trailheads throughout Knox and Waldo counties on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. This hike will be led by CMLT staff members and a PBMC Community Health Improvement team member. COVID Vaccine Clinics Thursdays, February 3, 10, 17 & 24, noon to 6:00 p.m. Hampton Inn & Suites, 190 New County Rd, Thomaston Weekly drop-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics for community members ages five and older, offered by the Maine CDC and Pen Bay Medical Center. Those attending the clinics will be able to get their first, second, third or booster dose. Moderna, Pfizer and Janssen (also known as Johnson & Johnson) vaccines will be available. No appointments are necessary. As a thank-you for getting vaccinated, Applebee’s Thomaston, will be offering 10% off coupons for individuals who receive their vaccine at the clinics. The COVID-19 vaccine is provided at no cost. If you have insurance, a fee for administration of the vaccine will be billed to your insurance carrier with no out-of-pocket cost to you. Naloxone Training Monday, February 7, noon to 1:00 p.m. Virtual class Naloxone is a life-saving medication that is used to counter the effects of drugs like heroin and prescription narcotics. Join providers from Pen Bay Medical Center to learn how to use naloxone to save the life of anyone who is experiencing an opioid overdose. Intro to Easy Going Yoga Mondays, February 14 - March 7, noon to 1:00 p.m. Virtual class Are you looking for an introductory online yoga class this winter? Join Antonia Small for a beginner-level class from the comfort of your own home. This class is designed with the mature student in mind, but is suitable for anyone looking to take an easy going midday class. This class will accommodate those comfortable working from the floor, a chair, or any combination thereof. Come find your yoga! $26 registration fee is required. Join facilitator Moriah Grant, OTD, OTR/L, for this informative and interactive support group where you can share your struggles with concussion; learn more about concussions, treatment and outcomes; and connect with others who have had similar experiences.
