January Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Postpartum Support Group Thursdays, January 3 – 24, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. First Floor Community Room, Biscone Building 119 Northport Avenue, Belfast AND Pen Bay Medical Center, Cardiac Rehab Solarium 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport The group alternates locations weekly, 1st & 3rd Thursday at PBMC and 2nd and 4th Thursday at WCGH. The postpartum support group was created by a group of women and moms, who have gone through challenging postpartum experiences themselves and/or have been educated on postpartum experiences. We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences. This is a free group for moms and moms-to-be who want to connect with other women for support. No registration required. For more information, please call 505-4140.

Childbirth Preparation Class Saturday, January 5, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Waldo County General Hospital, Classroom, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Topics covered include signs of labor; what to expect at the hospital; stages of labor; pain relief options including relaxation, breathing, medications and epidural; complications; Caesarean birth and other questions you may have. Breastfeeding Support Group Mondays, January 7 – 28, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (Every Monday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) Waldo County General Hospital, Women & Infants Unit, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Meet other new mothers who are breastfeeding. The group offers support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers from certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors. Siblings are welcome. Tai Chi for Wellness Tuesdays, January 8 – February 19, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (No class January 15) Nativity Lutheran Church, 179 Old County Road, Rockport Join instructor Adrienne Gallant, certified in Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, for this six-session beginner-level class to increase your strength, flexibility, balance and overall sense of well-being. Mother’s Milk Support Group Tuesdays, January 8 – 29, 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. or 5:00 - 6:60 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center, Chapel Room, 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport A support group for breastfeeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Join Megan Pinette, Belfast Historical Society and Museum president/curator, to discover the surprising history of the items manufactured in 19th and early 20th century Belfast, from axes to wagon wheels. Hypnobirthing Wednesdays, January 9 – February 6, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pen Bay Physicians Building, Conference Room C 4 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport Mothers and their partners learn techniques for safe and satisfying birthing through guided imagery, visualization and special breathing. Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group Tuesday, January 15, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. (Third Tuesday of each month) Knox Center, Rockland Room, 6 White Street, Rockland The Alzheimer’s Support Group provides information and support to area residents who have loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Gentle Yoga Flow Tuesdays, January 15 – March 12, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. (No class February 19) Mildred Stevens Williams Memorial Library 2916 Sennebec Road, Appleton This playful gentle flow class is designed for all levels. Certified yoga instructor Kyla Cech will offer lots of verbal cues for alignment, breath and grounding and introduce poses with several alternatives to suit a wide range of students.
