June Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Cardiac Rehab 5K Saturday, June 2, Registration is at 9:30 a.m, walk at 10:00 a.m.

Belfast Area High School at 98 Waldo Avenue, Belfast Join Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital for the seventh annual celebration of wellness and success of our cardiac rehab patients. All are welcome and invited to the walk.

There is no entry fee but donations will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the Cardiac Rehab scholarship funds. Please register by calling 505-4745.

Childbirth Preparation Class Saturday, June 2, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Waldo County General Hospital, Classroom, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Topics covered include signs of labor; what to expect at the hospital; stages of labor; pain relief options including relaxation, breathing, medications and epidural; complications; Caesarean birth and other questions you may have. Breastfeeding Support Group Mondays, June 4 – 25, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

(Every Monday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) Waldo County General Hospital, Women & Infants Unit, 1st Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Meet other new mothers who are breastfeeding. The group offers support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers from certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors. Siblings are welcome. Noon Yoga Mondays, June 4 – 25, noon to 1:00 p.m.

Knox Center, 6 White Street, Rockland Escape and refresh on your lunch break with our certified yoga instructors in this gentle yoga class. Each hour-long class will help you stretch and strengthen your muscles while you reduce stress and recharge for the rest of your day. No yoga experience required. $25 registration fee is required. Cancer Support Group Tuesdays, June 5 & 19, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.

Oncology & Infusion Therapy, Waldo County General Hospital 116 Northport Avenue, Ludwig Medical Building, Suite 116, Belfast This group is for cancer patients at any stage – newly diagnosed, currently in treatment and long-term survivors. A cancer diagnosis can be scary and can feel isolating; support groups offer a network of comfort, recognition and guidance. The group is facilitated by Ashley Hoffmann, LSW and Claudia B. Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting Tuesday, June 5, noon to 2:00 p.m.

(First Tuesday of each month) Anderson Inn, Quarry Hill, 30 Community Drive, Camden Janelle Michaud of Medtronic returns with a second presentation on the use of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Mother’s Milk Support Group Tuesdays, June 5 – 26, 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

Pen Bay Medical Center, Chapel Room, 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport A support group for breastfeeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed.

Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group Tuesday, June 5, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Hypnobirthing Wednesdays, June 6 – July 11, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Pen Bay Physicians Building, Conference Room C (June 27 class will be held in Conference Room D) 4 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport Mothers and their partners learn techniques for safe and satisfying birthing through guided imagery, visualization and special breathing.

A tour of the birth center is included. $125 for mom and partner for the five week class. Registration required, please call 921-8345.

Family Caregiver Education & Support Group Thursday, June 7, noon to 1:00 p.m.

Home Health Conference Room, 125 Northport Avenue, Belfast The group meets monthly and is for all family caregivers, including those caring for family members with Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Share your wisdom and experiences while learning more about how you can do the job effectively and keep yourself healthy at the same time. The group is facilitated by Margie Spencer-Smith, LCSW. Women’s Cancer Support Group Tuesday, June 19, 6:00 p.m.

(Third Tuesday of every month) Picker Family Resource Center, 756 Commercial Street, Rockport Join facilitator Colleen Kinney, LICSW, for a women’s cancer support group. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month.

Sibling Class The Pen Bay Medical Center Birthing Center offers a free Sibling class by appointment only. Children will learn about newborns and how to interact with them. Some safety lessons will be shared along with a discussion of their new role as big brothers and big sisters.
