Favorite Fall Hike: Head of Tide Preserve Monday, November 2, noon to 12:45 p.m. Doak Road, Belfast This fall, join members of the Community Health & Wellness team for guided (socially distant) hikes of some of our favorite Coastal Mountains Land Trust trails. Selected hikes will be approximately one mile in length and considered easy, with occasional rough terrain and some inclines. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and bring drinking water for the hike. For more information about any of the trails, please visit coastalmountains.org. Eating Better on a Budget Mondays, November 2 – 23, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Virtual class Want to learn how to prepare healthy foods on a limited budget? Join SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators from Knox and Waldo counties for this free four-week class that will give you the skills to shop, cook and eat healthy foods while stretching your SNAP dollars and staying within your grocery budget. There will be recipe demonstrations at each fun and interactive virtual session. All participants will receive a colorful cookbook with 24 healthy, low-cost recipes and nutrition tips! Breastfeeding Support Group Tuesdays, November 3 – 24, noon to 2:30 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center, 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport (Every Tuesday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) A support group for breastfeeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Facilitated by a lactation consultant from OB/GYN. Registration is required, please call 301-8337. All participants will be contacted by the facilitator of the group for a verbal screening and will need to follow social distancing and masking guidelines. Meeting location will be confirmed during registration. Alzheimers Disease Support Group Tuesday, November 3, 6:00 p.m. Virtual Meeting The Alzheimer’s Support Group provides information and support to area residents who have loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Currently the group is meeting via Zoom. Free. Those interested in participating should contact Cheri R. Blouin, LSW at 301-6237 or at cblouin@pbmc.org for the meeting details. GentleBirth Wednesdays, November 4 – December 2, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pen Bay Physicians Building, Conference Room C 4 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport Enjoy a new approach to child birth class combining brain science, birth science and technology to empower your positive birth through preparation. This class will include training and education in mindfulness, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and sports psychology. Breastfeeding Support Group Thursdays, November 5 – 26, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Community Room, Biscone Building, 119 Northport Ave, Belfast (Every Thursday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) This group offers breastfeeding support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers. Our certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors will lead breastfeeding topics such as the early weeks, fussy babies, common problems and solutions, going back to work, nutrition and long term breastfeeding success. Registration is required, please call WCGH lactation services at 505-4110. All participants will be contacted by the facilitator of the group for a verbal screening and will need to follow social distancing and masking guidelines. Postpartum Support Group Thursdays, November 5 & 19, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center, 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk, listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences. This is a free group for moms, moms-to-be and family members who want to connect with others for support. Registration is required, please call 301-8337. Advance Care Planning Workshop Tuesday, November 17, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Virtual class Advance care planning is an organized process of reflecting upon and discussing goals for future health care decisions. It is an important part of creating an advance directive, which is a written plan that represents your individual preferences and tells others what medical care you want or do not want to receive if you become too ill in the future to tell them. Join trained advance care planning facilitator Vikki Swan for this online workshop where you will begin the process of filling out your advance directive. Thursday, November 19, 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. Virtual class Quitting smoking isn’t easy; it takes time and a plan. You don’t have to stop smoking in one day. Start with day one. Let the Great American Smokeout, held each year on the third Thursday in November, be your day to start your journey toward a smoke-free life. Increase your chances of making this quit stick by joining Waldo County District Tobacco Prevention Partner Barbara Crowley in a presentation on accessing free supports.
