October Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital PBMC and WCGH are offering childbirth education and support groups and a few outdoor community health & wellness classes in person. Please note all attendees will need to abide by social distancing and masking guidelines. You will receive access to the support group or class after registering. Thank you for your understanding.

Breastfeeding Support Group Thursdays, October 1 – 29, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Community Room, Biscone Building, 119 Northport Ave, Belfast (Every Monday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) This group offers breastfeeding support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers. Our certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors will lead breastfeeding topics such as the early weeks, fussy babies, common problems and solutions, going back to work, nutrition and long term breastfeeding success. Registration is required, please call WCGH lactation services at 505-4109. All participants will be contacted by the facilitator of the group for a verbal screening and will need to follow social distancing and masking guidelines. Postpartum Support Group Thursdays, October 1 & 8, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk, listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences. This is a free group for moms, moms-to-be and family members who want to connect with others for support. Registration is required, please call 301-8337. All participants will be contacted by the facilitator of the group for a verbal screening and will need to follow social distancing and masking guidelines. Meeting location will be confirmed during registration.

Childbirth Preparation Class Saturday, October 3, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Waldo County General Hospital, Classroom, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Topics covered include signs of labor; what to expect at the hospital; stages of labor; pain relief options including relaxation, breathing, medications and epidural; complications; Caesarean birth and other questions you may have. Registration is required, please call 505-4140 to register. Please note class space is limited and all attendees will need to abide by social distancing and masking guidelines. Favorite Fall Hike: McLellan-Poor Preserve Monday, October 5, 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. Route 1, Northport This fall, join members of the Community Health & Wellness team for guided (socially distant) hikes of some of our favorite Coastal Mountains Land Trust trails. Selected hikes will be approximately one mile in length and considered easy, with occasional rough terrain and some inclines. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and bring drinking water for the hike. For more information about any of the trails, please visit coastalmountains.org. Breastfeeding Support Group Tuesdays, October 6 – 27. Noon to 2:30 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center (Every Tuesday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) A support group for breastfeeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Facilitated by a lactation consultant from OB/GYN. Registration is required, please call 301-8337. Alzheimers Disease Support Group Tuesday, October, 6, 6:00 p.m. The Alzheimer’s Support Group provides information and support to area residents who have loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.Currently the group is meeting via Zoom. Naloxone Training Tuesday, October 20, noon to 1:00 p.m. Virtual class Naloxone is a life-saving medication that is used to counter the effects of drugs like heroin and prescription narcotics. Join providers from Pen Bay Medical Center to learn how to use naloxone to save the life of anyone who is experiencing an opioid overdose. Flu Vaccine Clinic: The Pharmacy at PBMC will host a flu vaccine clinic on Monday,

October 12 from 9am-3pm under the canopy at the 4 White Street entrance of the Knox Center in Rockland. No appointments are required. If you have insurance, please bring your insurance card. If you don't have insurance, the cost is $35 for regular and $54 for high dose, billed to you later. There is a very limited quantity of high dose vaccine, so they are on a first come, first served basis.
