MAKE STUFF · MAKE FRIENDS · MAKE LIFE BETTER Arts on Prescription What you need to know Arts on Prescription provides art courses for people who are finding life a little tough: people who are lonely, stressed or not feeling very confident about themselves and also those suffering from anxiety or depression. Arts on Prescription is friendly and welcoming. You can come and try a lesson once and if you like it, come back and do the whole course. Do I need a prescription? No. If you think you can benefit from one of our courses, you are welcome. We won’t ask your reasons for coming. Can I do more than one course? At the moment, you can only come on one course so you need to choose the one which suits you best. If you need help with picking a course, just text, call or e-mail us.

2

Make your mark

How much are the courses? We ask for a donation towards materials, but this is just a donation and if you can’t afford the full price that is fine. We have a scale of suggested donations, ranging from £10 to £30 and we will explain more about this when you text, call or e-mail us. What can I do after coming on an Arts on Prescription course? Most of the time people love our courses and want to keep on making stuff, making friends and making life better. We keep in touch with people who go on our courses and let you know about further course opportunities, local art groups and volunteer opportunities which might be of interest. Some of our courses run permanently and you can attend these for as long as you want, although there is a small charge for this. We also run a blog which contains arts tutorials and encourages people to follow these on their own, or with friends.

MAKE STUFF · MAKE FRIENDS · MAKE LIFE BETTER Five ways to wellbeing

HERE ARE 5 EVIDENCE BASED WAYS TO HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING. TRY TO INTEGRATE THEM INTO YOUR DAILY LIFE - THINK OF THEM AS YOUR “5 A DAY” OF MENTAL WELLBEING! 1. Connect…

4. Keep Learning…

With the people around you. With family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. At home, work, school or in your local community. Think of these as the cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Building these connections will support and enrich you every day.

Try something new. Rediscover an old interest. Sign up for that course. Take on a different responsibility at work. Fix a bike. Learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident, as well as being fun to do.

2. Be Active…

5. Take Notice…

Go for a walk or run. Step outside. Cycle. Play a game. Garden. Dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity that you enjoy; one that suits your level of mobility and fitness.

Be curious. Catch sight of the beautiful. Remark on the unusual. Notice the changing seasons. Savour the moment, whether you are on a train, eating lunch or talking to friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.

3. Give… Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Thank someone. Smile. Volunteer your time. Join a community group. Look out, as well as in. Seeing yourself, and your happiness, linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and will create connections with the people around you.
