Alice Mary Norton

The family and friends of Alice Mary Norton honor her longtime commitment to Pentacle Theatre by sponsoring this production.

Alice began volunteering at Pentacle in 1985 and immediately fell under its spell. Over the next 35 years, she was involved in a wide range of theatre support roles including building sets, stage management, sound, lights, props, play reading, and fund raising as the long-time Benefits Chairperson. She was also a familiar face to many as the cheerful lady in the jaunty hat who delivered Pentacle posters to businesses around town.

Alice’s dedication and accomplishments were acknowledged in 1994 as the first recipient of the Claytene Vick Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2014, she was selected to be a Pentacle Lifetime Member.

Alice loved volunteering – but even more she loved being part of the Pentacle family. So from her family and friends to you, we hope you enjoy all that live community theatre has to offer.

DIRECTOR'S LETTER

The first time I saw the cult-classic movie Clue was in a high school English class. We had just finished reading Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. While Clue was not an adaptation of the novel, it was just similar enough that my teacher could justify showing it in class. Ever since then, Clue has been one of my favorite movies of all time. As such, when I heard that Clue: On Stage was on the hotlist for Pentacle’s 70th season, I was very excited. I quickly read the script, fell in love again, and submitted my proposal to bring the show to the Pentacle stage.

The stage adaptation is truly faithful to the movie: seamlessly blending the genres of comedy and closed-circle mystery into a farcical whodunit that will keep the audience guessing until the very end. If you imagine an Agatha Christie murder mystery set against the backdrop of the Second Red Scare mixed with a bit of daytime soap opera, you would be pretty close to Clue: On Stage.

As this is my directing debut at Pentacle Theatre, I have been nervous throughout this process. However, I have also been overwhelmed by the support I have received from my incredible production team and the community. One of the most amazing moments was the massive turnout seen at auditions. Fifty-two people auditioned for just eleven roles in this show. This was among the largest audition turnouts at Pentacle in recent history. In the months since then, I have had the opportunity to be entertained by one of the best casts and crews I have ever had the pleasure of working with. And now, I am so excited to be able to share their hard work with you.

So, sit back, but don’t relax. A murderer is on the loose and we need your help to solve the classic mystery of WHO did it, WHERE, and WITH WHAT!

Every five years, the Pentacle Theatre Governing Board honors as Lifetime Members five people who have been active in Pentacle Theatre for at least 20 years. We also remember fondly those Lifetime Members who are no longer with us.

Brandon Gitchel Director

While Clue: On Stage is Brandon’s directing debut at Pentacle Theatre, it is his tenth production at our theater in the woods. Brandon’s first show was 2016’s Of Mice and Men. Since then, he has stage-managed numerous productions including Noises Off, Cabaret, She Kills Monsters, The Fantasticks, and last season’s A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Over the past year, Brandon also served on the planning committee for Pentacle’s 70th Anniversary Celebration. While away from the theater, Brandon works at Salem Health and enjoys spending time with his daughter, Lily. He also looks forward to welcoming a baby boy into the family this December. Finally, Brandon would like to express his appreciation to all of his theatrical mentors who have made this experience possible, and to his loving partner for all of the support they have given throughout this production.

Debbie Neel Assistant Director

Debbie has been an active Pentacle member since 1980 when she was cast in the chorus of Oklahoma. Since then she has appeared in more than 35 shows, including On the Verge, Cabaret, Light Up the Sky, Talking With, and The Women of Lockerbie. She has also directed nine shows for Pentacle, including last season's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Through the years she has worked on costumes, lights, sound, backstage crew, and served on the Pentacle Board. In 2004, Debbie was honored as a Lifetime Member. She would like to thank Brandon Gitchel for the opportunity to assist on this crazy and zany production with such a talented group of actors and crew. Most importantly, she thanks her husband, Mike, for his continued patience, love and support.

Robert Alan Barnett

Colonel Mustard

Robert Alan Barnett (Bob) is thrilled to be back at Pentacle! He was last seen as Chris Bean (The Director) in The Play That Goes Wrong. Other Pentacle shows include Malvolio in Twelfth Night, Henry in The Fantasticks, and Arthur Birling in An Inspector Calls. Other local roles include Antigonus in The Winter’s Tale for Struts & Frets Theatre Co. and Gloucester in Majestic Theatre’s Wars of the Roses. Other favorite roles include Atticus Finch, Sherlock Holmes, Ebenezer Scrooge, John Barrymore, William Gillette, Judas, and God. He appears briefly in the Reese Witherspoon film Wild, and can also be seen on Grimm and Leverage. He has performed at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Cleveland Play House and the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival among others. But he is most proud of his wife of 39 years, Laurie, his two daughters, Sheena and Halley, and his grandson, Jayden.

Rosie Bueford

Mrs. White

Rosie is elated to be returning to the stage after taking many years off from performing. This is her first performance with Pentacle Theatre, but she is no stranger to the performing arts. Rosie has toured across the country as a musician and starred in numerous musicals and plays. When she’s not on the stage, Rosie brings her passion to her work and her community. She’s a mental health therapist and social justice advocate working to improve the mental health care system in Oregon. She loves to explore Oregon’s majestic nature, travel the world, and seize every day life to the fullest with her partner, children and friends.

Jeremy Clifton

Wadsworth

This is Jeremy's second show with Pentacle Theatre, but he is no stranger to theater life. He attended McKay High School, where he learned his acting and technical skills. While Jeremy only recently returned to acting, he also happily enjoys being a jack of all trades, doing technician work whenever it’s available to him. He was a stagehand for Jackson Rayne: Magic Beyond Possibility at Salem's Historic Grand Theater; light and sound board operator for Keizer Homegrown Theatre’s The Lifespan of a Fact; and was a rigging operator for three plays at the Elsinore Theater. He also did numerous technician jobs for Enlightened Theatrics, including stage management and light board operator. He has acted onstage as Trevor in The Play That Goes Wrong, the Emcee in Our Lady of the Tortilla, and as Wadsworth once before in Clue at McKay High School.

Jared Dukes

The Unexpected Cop, Backup Cop After 10 plus years being away from theater focusing on school and his career, Jared is thrilled to be acting again. This is his first Pentacle show, but could previously be found portraying old men in plays at South Salem High School. A former representative of South’s Thespian Board, some of his show experience includes Mr. Coburn in Out of the Frying Pan, Don Pedro in Much Ado About Nothing, and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. When not acting, Jared enjoys gaming, reading, and spending time with his wife, Ally, and their three cats.

Kamil Finger

Mr. Green

Kamil Finger "Kam" is a senior in high school diving into the world of community theater! Going into his second show at Pentacle and fourth year of acting, Kam has come to love the space and community of the theater, and has been thrilled to learn and experience new things. Kam has been in numerous high school productions at South Salem High School, most notably his role as Captain Von Trapp in Sound of Music and J. Finch in Puffs, alongside student directed one-acts. His previous role in a Pentacle show was Monty Navarro in A Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder, and he is now Mr. Green for your viewing pleasure!

Robynn Hayek

Mrs. Peacock

Robynn has been active in theater since she moved to Salem in 1997 and took an acting class with Jo Dodge, a long time actor/director with Pentacle Theatre. She is delighted to be back at Pentacle to be part of this exciting show after a long absence since playing Kate in All My Sons in 2015. A few of her favorite shows here include Misery, Sordid Lives, A View from the Bridge, and Steel Magnolias. Most recently seen at Verona Studio, Clackamas Repertory, and Keizer Homegrown Theatre, some favorites there include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, ‘Night Mother, Love Letters, True West, and Woman Caught Unaware. After retiring, Robynn decided to take some film acting classes in Portland and is grateful to have been cast on TV shows Grimm, The Librarians and American Vandal, as well as several indie films, commercials and industrial projects. She would like to thank John, her husband of 44 years, for his ongoing support and patience that allows her to pursue her love of acting without (too much) guilt. And for the audience members reading this program, thank you for supporting our beautiful 70year-old theater! Hope you enjoy the show!

Ken Hermens

Mr. Boddy, Motorist, Chief of Police

Clue On Stage marks the 64th role Ken has played on the Pentacle stage. He was last seen as Dennis/Perkins in last year's The Play That Goes Wrong. Favorite roles where he has died on the Pentacle stage include Bernardo in West Side Story, Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, John in Calendar Girls, Clifford in Deathtrap, and Evans in Terra Nova. Ken is a Lifetime Member of Pentacle Theatre and currently serves as President of the Pentacle Theatre Governing Board. He is happily retired after a 45-year career in the field of education.

Kaelyn Kappes Yvette

After appearing in Terra Nova in 2022, Kaelyn couldn't wait to get more involved with Pentacle Theatre! She has now served on the Pentacle Governing Board for two years and currently holds the title of secretary. Being a part of Clue has been an incredible experience, in part because it has allowed her to use all three of her majors/minors from Muhlenberg College: Theatre, Psychology, and French. In addition to volunteering with Pentacle, Kaelyn serves as an Assistant Director of Admission at Willamette University. Her appreciation for the support of her wonderful family, friends, and colleagues cannot be understated – they bring her vibrant joy on and off the stage each day. Merci pour votre présence, et amusezvous bien pendant ce mystère drôle!

Allison Reid Burton

Miss Scarlet

Allison Reid Burton performed on the Pentacle stage last year in A Gentleman's Guide to Love Murder. She has also been seen recently as the Ghost in An Inspector Calls and Caitlyn in Over the River and Through the Woods. Some favorite roles include: Music Man (Pick-A-Little Lady), The Tempest (Ariel), Heaven Can Wait (Julia Farnsworth), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Hermia), Much Ado About Nothing (Hero), Julius Caesar (Fate), and Macbeth.

Allison works as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Keizer Elementary to support her theatre endeavors, as well as her four pets Darcy, Bingley, Bennet, and Ace. Many thanks to her husband for becoming a theater widower so soon and her parents for doing all the dog sitting so she can go and play in theaters!

Rob Sim

Professor Plum

Rob has been performing at Pentacle Theatre since 1982 when he played Enoch Snow Jr. in Carousel. Since then he has appeared in over 40 productions, most recently as Mortimer in The Fantasticks and Dr. Wilson in Terra Nova Rob also has tech credits including lights, sound, props, stage manager, and stage hand. Rob would like to give a huge thank you to his Pentacle family for helping him get to where he is today.

Shiela Troncoso

The Cook, The Singing Telegram Girl, Backup Cop

Playing piano for Little Shop of Horrors was Shiela’s first theater experience. When a friend asked her to accompany Beauty and the Beast auditions, she said that sounded like fun, and ended up making it as a Silly Girl! Also with Pentacle Theatre, she had the privilege of being in The Little Mermaid and Cinderella. Last year, her participation in Broadway Dreams through Enlightened Theatrics was a learning experience that opened the way for the musical James and the Giant Peach. Shiela has been in the Portland Singing Christmas Tree show for a few years. For decades, she’s been singing in and accompanying choirs, but this is her first time doing a play. Fortunately, she has the musical roles in Clue! Additionally, Shiela and her husband, John, perform at a variety of events as a musical duo.

For those who may have missed it, Pentacle’s 70th Anniversary celebration was a truly festive and entertaining evening. Kudos to chair Cherie Ulmer and her committee for putting together an event befitting the observance of a remarkable 70 years of live theater.

A highlight of these “every five-year” events is the opportunity to welcome five new inductees into the circle of Lifetime Members. Honorees at this year’s celebration included Geri Greeno, who has been an active actress, director, choreographer, and house manager since 2000; actor/set builder/set striker Rob Sim, who was also honored early in the evening with the Technical Director award for his backstage work; Tom Hewitt, one of Pentacle’s most versatile actors for over four decades, who, along with Natalie Pate Gwin, co-hosted the evening program with humor and charm; and Diane and Michael Francis, who served as stage managers for numerous Pentacle shows from the 1980s through Mousetrap in the 2021 season, as well as forming and helming our strike crew for over a decade. Sadly, Michael passed away the week following the ceremony; this giant of a man will truly be missed.

Also honored during the evening were Dee Montgomery Smith, who was named Pentacle’s Volunteer of the Year; Sherry Collins, who received the Executive Director’s award; and Cherie Ulmer and Laura Davis, who each received a President’s award.

And so we look forward to 2029 when Pentacle will reach the milestone of being threequarters of a century old—a feat that calls for another amazing celebration!
