When most people think of the movie Footloose, which opened in theaters 40 years ago this past February, the thing they remember is the music. Kenny Loggins singing the title song; "Holding Out For a Hero" playing while on screen the actors were on the tractors playing chicken; "Let’s Hear It For The Boy" as Willard learns to dance; all icon scenes we love to watch and songs we love to listen to. And the musical version makes wonderful use of classic songs from the movie soundtrack as well as original songs written for the stage.

But Footloose is more than just a song and dance show. It is a story about people who are in pain and are afraid to feel that pain again so they are using whatever means they can to protect themselves and those they love. It is a story about a community that suffered a tragic loss. It is the story of an angry young man who is hurt and in pain. It is a story about trying to find your way in the world with people who aren’t like you. How do we talk to people we fear will bring back that pain we felt? Or how do you get people to see your point of view when you cannot see theirs? With the story, we see these characters who are in pain and unable to express it in a way that is beneficial for healing and moving forward. That only by truly listening to one another and meeting each other where we are can any of us hope to achieve understanding and forgiveness. And through talking, really talking (and, of course, with a little help from song and dance) we can find healing amongst those who are different than us. My hope is that audiences come away from the show with a feeling of hope, of love and of pure joy as the binds that hold us back are broken and everybody can cut Footloose!

Every five years, the Pentacle Theatre Governing Board honors as Lifetime Members five people who have been active in Pentacle Theatre for at least 20 years. We also remember fondly those Lifetime Members who are no longer with us.

Geri has choregraphed several shows for Pentacle including Guys and Dolls, Mary Poppins, Urinetown, 9 to 5: The Musical, Seussical, The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Nunsense, Spamalot, A Christmas Carol, Cabaret, Little Shop of Horrors, Shrek the Musical and this season’s The Prom. Favorite onstage roles include Angie in The Prom, Rosie in Mamma Mia!, Elvira in Blithe Spirit, Billie Dawn in Born Yesterday, Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, Nancy in Oliver, Sheila in Hair, Maria in Sound of Music, Inga in Young Frankenstein, Eulalie MacKensie Shinn in Music Man and performing in the ensemble of Chicago twice. When not spending her time at the theater, Geri works for the State of Oregon and enjoys spending time with her husband Chris and their dog Gidget.

Quinn has done many things behind the curtain and is excited to continue to be there as Assistant Director. He runs his own audio-visual company called Quinn’s AV Club, from lights, sound, sets, and mics he enjoys getting his hands on anything he can grab. He is thankful to Geri for offering him the opportunity to AD. There was no way he was saying no to that. Quinn would like to thank his family for their support of his antics throughout his theater years. He is thankful to the past directors who trusted him with their passion projects. And Marah, his partner of almost five years who has foolishly stuck with him for so long.

She's previously performed with Pentacle in roles such as Fiona in Shrek the Musical and Sally Bowles in Cabaret. Parts outside Pentacle include Victoria the White Cat in Cats, Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress, and the title character of Peter Pan. By day, Natalie works as a journalist at Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB).
