A WORD FROM OUR CHAIRMAN
ANDY SCHOFIELD Good evening and welcome to the Enclosed Ground for this Isthmian League South East clash with VCD. We wish our visitors a safe journey back up the M25 after the game. VCD first played in East Brighton in an FA Cup preliminary round tie in 2007, in Russell Bromage’s only season in charge. Future boss Ross Standen was in goal and our average attendance that season was 55. Both sides were county league teams and the visitors won 1−0. Since we have been with them in the Isthmian League, VCD have lost both their visits here, most recently 2−1 with Jav Splatt getting both our goals and his twin brother Jamie making a late sub appearance for the visitors. Remarkably, in what was a dire season, we did the double over today’s visitors last year after a dramatic last-minute winner from Splatt secured a 3−2 win in south-east London in March. Thanks to all the fans who made the trip to Ashford United’s black plastic pleasure ground on Saturday – and a special mention for John Ayling, who organised the fans’ minibus. The support was tremendous – indeed, as we pointed out on a few occasions, it was the only noise being made in the ground for 90−odd minutes, other than the muffled cheer when Ashford took the lead. To come away from a visit to Homelands disappointed with only a point shows how far we have come this season. Talking to our ex-player Omar Lawson after the game, he was amazed how much improved the team spirit and quality was from last season. Henry Muggeridge too was full of praise for the job Shaun has done. This is the first of three home games for the Hawks. We have another game here on Saturday against Hythe Town and then meet our friends from Newhaven in the Sussex County Cup in a week’s time. It would be great to see you all back again for these matches. Our weekend games always kick off at 3pm on a Saturday and we don’t do VAR at any time of the week. If you want to talk to the players, they have something to eat and drink in the bar after the game and are always glad to chat with fans. It’s great that the tradition of the team embracing the supporters behind the goal after every game has been maintained this season. There is a real bond developing. Please spread the good news far and wide, especially with Premier League football having an extended break for the World Cup. If we could regularly achieve gates of over 500 it would really ease the pressure on finances. Thanks to everyone for coming this evening.
Andy Schofield Hawks Chairman

THE VISITORS VCD ATHLETIC
VCD - It stands for Vickers, Crayford and Dartford, don’t you know - is a quaint little club buried amongst the myriad houses of southeast London. Playing their matches at Oakwood - a vibrant, green spot that one merely stumbles upon - it is also the home to Charlton Women, owing to its luscious green lawns. For ‘The Vickers’, well, it’s been a fine start to the campaign for Grant Basey’s side who, after taking over in the early Summer, has helped his team to 6th position in the still early parts of the season. A slight dip in form as they travel to East Brighton, a stern test nonetheless it will prove for Saunders and Co. as the constantly evolving outfit striped in green and white look for a return into the playoff positions. THE MAN IN CHARGE
Danny Phillips: A midfielder that is much travelled, this slippery presence and hard-working cog in the machine is formerly of Dartford, Greenwich Borough, Thamesmead Town and Punjab United. Another new presence in the heart of VCD Athletic, Phillips stays in a similar part of the country to join up with Basey.
Grant Basey: Replacing Nick Davis after he moved to manage Sittingbourne ahead of this campaign, 33−year-old Basey managed Isthmian League Premier Division side Cray Wanderers alongside Gary Alexander for 18 games during the 2021−22 season. A former VCD Athletic player and Charlton Athletic assistant, Basey brought Michael Power in as his number two as the new-look squad look to keep pressure on the sides currently lurking above them.
THE THE DEFENCE ATTACK GK:
Harry Brooks: Norway, Sweden…VCD it’s been quite the journey for 26−year-old Brooks who, after starting his career with Ebbsfleet just a few miles away from his current workplace, has travelled the continent to lands far and wide as he returns to the southeast after short stints with Whitstable, Sittingbourne and Ramsgate.
Defenders: Daniel McNeil-Nash: Previously with Erith Town, 'Nashy' joined the Vickers this season, and is a strong attacking full back who has cemented his place as Basey's primary right-back. Declan Kama: A name very much familiar to Whitehawk followers after the young versatile defender was brought to the club by Ross Standen last season. A powerful presence who plays best on the side, Kama brings a new dimension to an evolving defence. Khanye Makhosini: Makhosini joined Vickers this season, having previously been with Maldon & Tiptree, Aveley and Coggleshall Town. A left-sided utility player who has looked impressive and comfortable on the ball in the early stages of this campaign, the initial signs are one of promise for VCD's newest incumbent of the technical area.
David Ozobia: Scoring his first goal for VCD Athletic on Saturday in their surprising 3−2 defeat at lowly Corinthian, Ozobia is a young attacking midfielder with an eye for goal. Joining from Harrow Borough in the Summer, the intelligent player has played a crucial part already in his side's promising start going forward.
Forwards:
Jack Sammoutis: Potentially the club's showcase signing Muriano Banjoko: Bringing of the offseason, 28−year-old Sammoutis commenced excellent feet and lightninghis career with Millwall before joining Met Police. quick speed, Banjoko is one of Spending the bulk of his career with Margate, Walton many who moved to Oakwood in Casuals and Cray Valley PM, he joins from the latter the Summer. Karl Dent: A product of Dartford's youth set up who joined the Vickers 4 years ago making great strides in the process. Possessing great energy and playing a large part in VCD's successive promotions, scoring 19 goals from midfield a couple of seasons ago. A mainstay in the side who doesn’t give opponents time to settle, Dent is a young attacking force who found the net on one occasion last time around.
Marcus Evans: A strong, physical central defender who moved Oakwood in the Summer, and joins having previously played for Sheppey Utd, Chatham and Whitstable. A steady defender who is strong in the air and a punishing, hard tackler, he arrives with a solid amount of experience as he anchors his newest club's backline.

A WORD FROM OUR COMMERCIAL MANAGER
THE 2021/23 COLLECTION
KEVIN MILLER Good evening and welcome to The Enclosed for this evening’s Pitching in Isthmian League game against our friends from VCD Athletic. It’s been a superb start to the season, hasn’t it? Shaun and the boys are unbeaten in 10 matches, playing some positive, forward thinking football at times, and we’ve seen attendances at The Enclosed grow throughout the season. So to all our new friends and fans welcome, we hope you’re enjoying the party! (It’s always like this you know!) For some, the results on the pitch may be the only positive right now. Many people are struggling through this current Cost of Living Crisis, and it’s now that we should all come together as a club to help those who may be having a hard time. So, look in on your neighbours, call those you haven’t heard from for a while and just ask if they’re ok. The Whitehawk family will always stick together, on and off the pitch, and the larger the crowd, the larger the family… Big things coming up! (apart from some great home games!) Mark your diaries for Wednesday, November 23 in the clubhouse - a very special evening awaits, and on Thursday, December 15, it’s the return of Stand up For Whitehawk ’22! The line up for this event is phenomenal; a heady mix of music and comedy from our community, and a couple of instantly recognisable faces from the National comedy circuit that you will not believe! How we’ve managed to get them here is amazing! Details for these reserved on-line free ticket events will be released tomorrow, but you will not want to miss out! Proceeds will go to the East Brighton Food Co-op, and along with the club open for England World Cup matches, the end of the year is going to be a fantastic celebration at Whitehawk FC! We’re also putting together a definitive list of new products for Christmas, alongside all the superb gifts currently in the Hawks Megastore, and John & Polish Adam are doing an incredible job volunteering their time looking after the shop. Finally, and talking of volunteers, if you have a couple of hours spare between now and January, and want to be part of the party on matchdays, please get in touch! E-mail me - kevin.miller@whitehawkfc.com - as more and more people get the Hawks buzz (and please, tell your friends and those Premier League fans you may know who are looking for their Saturday afternoon fix!) we’re going to need more people to get involved! Let’s keep the momentum going, continue to make the Enclosed a fortress, and get behind the boys as we look to maintain this brilliant momentum!
Kev PS. Monday, January 9. Save the date.

Sunday 8th November 2015 was one the greatest days in the club’s recent history. The Hawks were a National League South side and on that day we beat National League Lincoln City 5−3 to reach the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in front of 1342 fans. Goals from the game were reported on live on BBC Sport. Lincoln’s next FA Cup defeat came in the sixth round at the Emirates against Arsenal, the furthest a non-league side had gone in the competition for a century. By a strange quirk of fate, the next time Lincoln City met a National League South side was last Saturday and they exited 1−0 at the hands of Chippenham Town.

NEXT UP AT THE ENCLOSED GROUND On the horizon for the Hawks at The Enclosed Ground is the visit of Hythe Town, as ‘The Cannons’ make landfall in Sussex on Saturday, November 12 with kick-off scheduled for 3pm. For Shaun Saunders this fixture brings back an important memory as the manager’s opening game in charge of Whitehawk on an afternoon that stuttered and stumbled with Hythe claiming all three points. Since that fateful April day things are looking a little different as the Hawks are perched in 4th ahead of tonight, whilst Steve Watt’s team are currently looking for momentum, sat solemnly in 13th position. It’ll be the second trip to Sussex in four days for Hythe as they travel to Three Bridges’ Jubilee Field this evening hoping to secure a first win in three matches, one of which included a 6−1 drubbing at Chatham Town 10 days ago. So, with the Hawks in form and the Cannons struggling for gunpowder, it’s one that certainly should not be missed…
