Touching Lives, Making An Impact Recently I learned that a student of mine, ive years prior, was in critical care and spending her time between surgeries in ICU. My heart sank. In class she always was the irst to worry about another student, make a poster, rally a cause, and to share openly that Tracy Livingston Board Member her sister was her best friend and how cancer changed their family forever. Heart, love and passion continues to pour out of her soul. I know that from the balloons, the well-wishers, her family and her best friend not wanting to leave her side. Before walking to her
room, I stopped at the desk, washed my hands for the 75th time and took a deep breath. “Are you ok?” The kind receptionist offered...”Yes, I just do not want to go down that hall.” Tearing up and feeling foolish, at my emotion, she put her hand on mine and asked...”Family?” “No,” now feeling like a fool. “Just a teacher of the past, like a ghost of terror, I suppose.” The kind woman nodded. “No, like an angel.” Tears ran down my face. I sat down. A Hispanic family nodded, smiled and said, “Roca de los profesores” (teachers rock), a little pumpkin no taller than my knee hugged me... and with that, courage was given to make the walk and see my doll. That is my life, and one I

would not change for all the money in the world. I touch lives. So do you, everyday and everyway. More often than not I often feel like the students give more than I could ever give back...but then the moment arrived when my doll opened her beautiful eyes, “Mrs. L. I love you, you are my favorite language arts teacher ever... and talked about often at the high school.” The best, still remembered, unbelievable that those words would be uttered, even more from my doll ighting to get stronger each day. I was there for her, and yet she was there for me, times have not changed. May your days be bright not just during the holidays but those moments when you realize you made an impact.

“My family lives in the Apache Elementary area, however my children aend other Peoria Unified Schools. Every weekday I drive past the crosswalk at John Cabot Rd. and Country Club Pkwy. I do not have to go this way as there are other routes to get out from my house, however my children and I choose to go this way. We choose it because we know without a doubt that we will be greeted with a smile and a wave by the wonderful crossing guard. Every time we have been by he is waving, smiling, happy to share his joy. It is refreshing to start our day on a posive note. On Halloween he dressed up, decorated the area and set a table with candy for the kids. This
man doesn’t know me and has no idea that he has made a posive impact on mine and my children’s lives. He is a special person, you can tell he has a huge heart and he spreads happiness. Thank you Mr. Crossing Guard for radiang your happy light into our world!”

Give Yourself Credit on Your Taxes and Support Your Local School, too Tax credit contributions support extracurricular activities in public schools which enrich the lives of students. One hundred percent of the funds go directly to the school and program selected by the donor. Arizona allows individual taxpayers a tax credit up to $200, or up to $400 as a married couple iling a joint return. A credit may only be used to the extent it reduces a tax liability to zero. Any unused amounts may be carried forward for not more than ive consecutive years.
A tax credit contribution can be directed to a district school with the greatest need, or designated for a speciic student’s extracurricular activity, such as: ield trips, athletics, band (high school only), character education, tutoring, tuition for Kindergarten Academy and the EXCEL before and after-school program. An extracurricular activity requiring a participation fee for junior high students are SkillsUSA competitions.
High school marching band and elementary Outdoor Educaon are just two of the many extra-curricular programs that require parcipaon fees that can be paid for with tax credit contribuons.
Technology Life Careers (TLC) — a two-year required course for Peoria Uniied 7th and 8th graders — offers SkillsUSA state-wide competitions as part of the curriculum. TLC incorporates and supports College and Career Readiness Standards and partners with the community — business, industry, college, university, tech schools and parents — to ensure students learn current technology, workplace standards and skills needed to be successful. Peoria Uniied offers several ways to make a tax credit contribution: online at www.peoriaud.k12. az.us, or from the district’s mobile App; a pre-printed form and envelope are included in the 2014 Annual Review recently mailed to all district households; a form can also be obtained at all schools and the District Administration Center, 6330 W. Thunderbird Road. Make a tax credit contribution at your school site before Winter Break, or, to make the Dec. 31 deadline, stop by the District Administration Center Dec. 19, 29, 30 or 31.
