SHAN SHUI Project: Urbanism, Social Housing, Amenities, Sport Facilities, Public Space, City Size: 14 000 000 000 m2 Location: Wuhan - Jiujiang, China Type: Academic
Rapid urbanization in China is an unstoppable scenario, in order to improve the living in China, people have to migrate from the countryside to the city. However, this is not done in optimal conditions, and thus has many flaws.
SHAN SHUI is a project to humanize this, through social housing. The typical unit is arranged from three cells, which perform specific functions for dwelling. The living cell, the resting cell and the opportunity cell, which allows further expansion. In order, to minimize space use, all furniture is built in, to free the space, so it can accommodate three generations at a time.

The urban proposal, explores the relationship between local landscape and modern density, by creating convergent mountain-range-like buildings, which arrange a new city. As a consequence of shifting units, streets-on-air appear, providing a slopped circulation both for bikes and pedestrians. To serve the needs of the city and a greater good, the units have to mediate the space within the system, arranging in a way to generate a public realm that spreads throughout the city. Therefore this vast complex is a mere convergence of schemes forging an urban ecosystem.

THE STONE ON THE PATH Project: Cabanon Size: 24 m2 Location: Sabiñan - Paracuellos, Spain Type: Competition Proposal Status: Winner Arquia Scholarship 2018
THE STONE ON THE PATH is a cabanon that lies in a path in between two rural towns, so that it has views of both settlements, but also to see a mountain range in front of it, and a fruit tree field behind. It is also designed with four actions in mind; reading, bathing, writing and resting, which are reflected in each of the wings of the cabin. As you approach the cabanon from the path, it tries to blend with the landscape as it uses a reflective film as a finishing, but it also mirrors the town you come from, allowing you to see both towns at the same time.

VALLEHERMOSO MARKET Project: Skin, Rehabilitation, Farm, Public Space, Market Size: 2 090 m2 Location: Madrid, Spain Type: Academic
VALLEHERMOSO MARKET explores the conjunction between skin and use, through the restoration of an old market in Madrid. Undertaking the need of food production within cities, while generating a new public space, intertwined with a farm and an enclosed market. The key technique of this intervention is the layering of concepts; the market, the farm, the use and the circulation, stitching them into a consolidated strategy, and improving the performance of the existing building by creating an ecosystem within.

A NEW SCIENCE PARK consists on the rehabilitation of The Museum of Science and the integration of The Charles River. This new network aims to restore the ecosystem within the river, but also to provide new site specific, interactive and unique exhibitions for the museum, which are both encompassed within the newly shaped existing museum and the newly formed performative landscape in the shape of wetlands. Both the museum and the river change with the seasons, allowing for temporary exhibits to be scattered through the basin.

24-04-2018 To whom it may concern: Re: José Lacruz Vela It is a pleasure for me to write this recommendation letter. I had the chance to get to know José Lacruz, first being a student at IE School of Architecture and later working as an internship at nodo17 group. After all this period I want to stress his learning and working capacity. I have been professor of Building Technology of José Lacruz during a full academic year. I strongly recommend looking in detail his academic portfolio from Design Studio to Building Technology. It shows multiple skills and tools to manage scales from urban design to construction systems. Over the years he has been able to integrate the complexity of learning architecture. By the way of example, I want to emphasize his research called imPACKt farm. It shows not only his technical and entrepreneurship concerns, but his continuous interest on learning and researching outside academic boundaries. Integration was one of the main reasons why José Lacruz started working at nodo17 group. During this period, he proved to be very skilled with the computer work, immediately able to understand the requirements of the projects at the moment in which he became involved. José Lacruz was very rigorous and precise in the implementation of the work, and also very qualified to articulate, explain and conceptualize. I strongly recommend José Lacruz without hesitation and I have no doubt that he will prove himself to be a great asset to any potential employer, whether he is involved in research tasks or in design tasks. I strongly believe that Jose’s presence in any design team will unveil new and interesting ways to look at urban and architectural issues. Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you require further information. Sincerely,
Manuel Perez Romero Phd in Architecture Founding Partner at nod17 group.
