NEWFARM NEWYORK explores the relationship between the faรงades in a mixed-use housing and retail centre located in the heart of Tribeca. Addressing the pressing need of housing in high-density city planning, NEWFARM NEWYORK seeks to coordinate the residential and urban farm typologies into the urban environment. The design begins with research of faรงade geometries, in order to arrange the functions inside the building, and to analyse the circulation, which ultimately forms the skin.

CATALYST FARM Project: Student residence, Mixed-Use, Farm, Public Space, Sustainability Size: 6 400 m2 Location: Milan, Italy Type: Competition Proposal Status: Submitted
Nowadays, farms are thought of being tracts of land in rural areas, where food is cultivated. Currently, most of the population live in cities, and this values are steadily increasing, therefore there is a need of bringing farms into the urban fabric, where most of the food is consumed. The main idea behind CATALYST FARM is not only to bring farms within the city, but also inhabit them and use them as a public catalyst. The greenhouse acts as a liveable structure where multiple uses can occur, such as weekly markets, to encourage local fresh products, while using it as a tool for public interaction.

VALLEHERMOSO MARKET Project: Skin, Rehabilitation, Farm, Public Space, Market Size: 2 090 m2 Location: Madrid, Spain Type: Academic
VALLEHERMOSO MARKET explores the conjunction between skin and use, through the restoration of an old market in Madrid. Undertaking the need of food production within cities, while generating a new public space, intertwined with a farm and an enclosed market. The key technique of this intervention is the layering of concepts; the market, the farm, the use and the circulation, stitching them into a consolidated strategy, and improving the performance of the existing building by creating an ecosystem within.

SHAN SHUI Project: Urbanism, Social Housing, Amenities, Sport Facilities, Public Space, City Size: 14 000 000 000 m2 Location: Wuhan - Jiujiang, China Type: Academic
Rapid urbanization in China is an unstoppable scenario, due to migration from the countryside to the city, in order to improve the living in China. However, it is not done in optimal conditions, and thus has many flaws. SHAN SHUI is a project to humanize this, through social housing. The typical unit is arranged from three cells, which perform specific functions for dwelling. The living cell, the resting cell and the opportunity cell, which allows further expansion. In order, to minimize space use, all furniture is built in, to free the space, in order to accommodate 3 generations at a time.

The urban proposal, explores the relationship between local landscape and modern density, by creating convergent mountain-range-like buildings, which arrange a new city. As a consequence of shifting units, streets-on-air appear, providing a slopped circulation both for bikes and pedestrians. To serve the needs of the city and a greater good, the units have to mediate the space within the system, arranging in a way to generate a public realm that spreads out throughout the city. Therefore this vast complex is a mere convergence of schemes forging an urban ecosystem.
CEBADA MARKET Project: Rehabilitation, Farm, Public Space, Market Size: 20 000 m2 Location: Madrid, Spain Team: Jose Lacruz Vela, Sofya Abramchuck Type: Competition Proposal Status: 3rd Prize Association for Vertical Farming
CEBADA MARKET re-imagines an old marketplace that produces, sells and educates all who engage with it, hoping to create a domino effect of better food habits to the extended community. Reducing food miles and opening urban minds to this tried and tested food solution, the marketplace can also serve to inspire other similar or better products and create the positive food revolution we seek to spark. The design, exploits the successes of permaculture and drip irrigation with its water recycling component and its modular design.

VIRUS Project: Urbanism, Residential, Amenities, Sport Facilities, Skyscraper, Public Space Size: 24 000 m2 Location: New York, USA Type: Academic
VIRUS tackles the meaning of a tower, by forming a skyscraper in a sprawling system, not only to adopt the unused space within a city, but to generate a building that has no start neither ending. Allowing the skyscraper to pursue multiple interdisciplinary roles, merging architecture, urbanism and landscape into one single building, which generates connections with neighbouring buildings. The building, located at Columbus Circle, provides an extension and a viewpoint for Central Park.
Site
Located at the cross section of the are between 59th St. and 56th St. around Columbus Circle, currently occupied with the Museum of Arts and Design. The total site are is 1500m2.
Manhattan
Manhattan combines high rises with spectacular public spaces, which are by themselves landmarks inside New York City. Skyscrapers are the city’s symbol which are recognized World-wide. Then new towers aims to create a new icon that will out-stand the rest.
Sun exposure
As the Sun rotates from East to West, most of the building’s light will be blocked by other towers, therefore, the tower should mediate how much light it captures, and how much it allows to be filtered towards smaller buildings below.
Invading the unused space
The maximum height will also be the maximum width and length in order to not loose the typology of a tower.
Views to Central Park
The tower is located at a privileged location, as it has views to Central Park, the biggest park in the city, and a gathering space. The building will have gardened terraces which bring a relation between the park and the building at different heights, as a public prolongation of the park.
Stacking
Stacking suburban houses in the middle of Manhattan, with their own private gardens. At the same time creating public spaces around and on top of the building, both open and enclosed areas.
Relation to Subway
Columbus Circle station, located across the Columbus Circle connects the circle with the city. Lines 1-2-3 and D pass under the building, making very difficult to build underground.
A new public space
In this new urban context, the tower will be raised in order to create a new public space under it, creating more space to held more people during the parade on Columbus Day, which is held in the circle.
