Monday Morning Assembly

A letter to the Parents Dear Peponi House Parents, I trust that you are all well. The Year 8 pupils have continued to enjoy being in school and yesterday I was able to present several of the children with their ‘school colours’ for Hockey and Music. This is always a special moment for those that get these awards and I am confident we will be able to present many such awards to others later in the year. For everyone else there is also something to feel good about and a positive feeling to enjoy. Over the last few months people have all worked hard and achieved a great deal in tricky circumstances. We have all had to. New challenges have been mastered and new skills and knowledge learned. Consequently we find ourselves moving positively towards the end of term and our return to school in January. Following the Government’s announcement that schools may open for all pupils in January, we are busily preparing for that probability. We have learned a great deal from having the Year 8 pupils here with us and arrangements in January will broadly follow our previous plans for reopening before they returned and that were shared with you last half-term. The situation is a little complicated by the fact that we might well be able to move at least some Year Groups into our new school buildings. That would be a good thing as it would enable us to spread out further and enhance our educational provision generally. Whilst we are planning to open our school for all pupils in January, please remember that it is possible the covid situation might develop negatively over the coming weeks and that the Government’s position could change. Should developments over the Christmas holiday necessitate any changes in plans we will let you know soonest. We are expecting everyone to attend school next term. Where there are clear reasons for you not wanting your child to return to school you must let us know. For those children unable to return to school we will do our best to share the children’s school work with them and provide teacher contact and some online teaching. Please do remember though that it will not be possible to facilitate a full online programme alongside all classes being taught in school. Next term starts on Tuesday 12th January 2021. Lessons are scheduled for everyone from that date although the school day and timetable has been amended to enable us to follow most effectively the Government’s covid protocols. I will write to you with more detail before the end of term but for now I would like to share a few key details regarding arrangements with you. We have had to stagger drop off and departures times:

Tuesday 12th January 2021 7:30am Year 7 and 8 pupils come to school 7:45am Year 5 and 6 pupils come to school 8:00am Year 2, 3 and 4 pupils come to school

School arrangements going forward from Wednesday 13th January will follow the pattern of this school day. Although the day is slightly shorter for all, the educational programme will be very similar to that which everyone will be used to ‘in school’. This is because we have shortened the lunch break to one hour and some activities and Assemblies will not be taking place. Some of the detail that accompanies this programme is contained within the returning to school General and Parental Guidelines document. The Question and Answer document also gives extra information. We will send you the updated versions of these documents next week. We have also updated the School Covid Risk Assessments which will be available on Firefly. The headlines from those documents are: 1.

We will do all that we can to ensure a safe environment and a school culture of care. Please support us in that goal by being cautious and considerate at home and whilst out and about and socialising.

2.

Pupils should not come to school if they are at all unwell. We will look after them and send them home should they become unwell at school.

3.

Please let your child’s Tutor or Form Teacher know if your child is not able to attend school for any reason.

4.

Pupils should bring snacks from home for morning break – ideally fruit. No sweets nor nuts.

5.

Lunch will be provided although there will be a limited menu.

6.

Uniform to be worn except on days of sport.

7.

Except for sports, all pupils need to wear masks and to observe social distancing. Rigorous hygiene and general cleaning regimes will be enforced. Masks should be fresh and clean. We will continue to review the exact arrangements for the wearing of them. It is important to remember that they protect others. A spare mask should be brought into school in a small bag. It will be looked after by the teacher.

8.

School will only be open 7:30am – 4:20pm.

9.

For the time being there will be no pre school nor after school activities.

10. Collection and drop off will be at the main school gate. Younger siblings may be dropped off/ collected with their elder brothers/sisters. 11. Teachers will share school timetables with their pupils when they are finalised. 12. Peponi House sports kit should be worn to school on days when the children are taking part in sport. This should be fresh and regularly washed! On other days normal school uniform should be worn. 13. Pupils will need to bring into school a morning snack, water bottles, their hats and stationery: a pencil case with pencils, rubber, pen, sharpener, ruler, glue stick, a few coloured pencils and scissors. Years 7 and 8 will need their calculator. 14. Pupils should bring their text books into school when they return. 15. Pupils will be allowed to play in Year Group areas at break. Page 2 of 3

We will be following Government guidelines in relation to actual covid management. Additionally, should anyone test positive for covid they should not return to school until they have had a negative test. Anyone who is in close contact with someone who has tested positive should normally isolate for 14 days. We must be informed should such events come to pass. Going forward, we will review the detail of these arrangements in the light of medical advice and any developments in general covid management protocol and share any new arrangements with you. We are all cautiously excited by the prospect of having the children back in school in January. Whilst this will not be a return to normality, it will be a most welcome step along that road. Have a good weekend, Yours sincerely, Neil Price

When I feel Sad… Shem is sad, his best friend Tony moved away, he’s finding it difficult to understand why his friend had to move. Sadness is a normal and healthy way to respond to difficult events whether it’s big or small. Do you remember how you felt when you lost your favorite pencil bag? Not making it to the rugby team? How about when you were not invited for a birthday party by a friend? It’s okay to feel sad, it’s a healthy way to respond to a negative event. The good news is, there are a few things we can do to feel better: Try not to be alone: We sometimes like to be alone when sad, being withdrawn will make you feel worse. Choosing to be outside, around your friends and family is likely going to make you feel a little better. Talk to someone about your feelings: There is always a group of people around you who are willing to talk to you. Teachers, parents, guardians and sometimes your older siblings, all you need to do is tell them what you feel. A feelings shared brings much relieve! Express your feelings through creativity: Do you like to draw? Paint? Knit? or write a journal? You can actually express your feelings by doing some creative things that you like to do. When you get focused at this tasks, you might not even remember that you were feeling sad. Develop a plan: We all feel sad sometimes but not always. it’s therefore good to have a plan in mind on what you can do when you feel sad. I count to 10 when I feel sad, can listening to music or playing with your pet be a could plan for you? Shem talked to his parents about his feelings and he is also doing some paintings that he plans to send to his friend who moved away. He is happy!

Thanksgiving Posters Thanksgiving was originally a holiday to give thanks to God for the harvest. Today it is an opportunity to give thanks for all the good things that surround us. This year it is more important than ever to be thankful for what we have. Here are some wonderful posters from the Peponi children..
