6D went to space! Living in the International Space Station Task: Imagine that you have visited the International Space Station on a mission. Give a detailed and creative account of what it was like to be there.
ey g like th 6D actin ady in e were alr zero ith space w gravity.
The first thing I did was explore the ISS. It was difficult to not crash in to the walls, zero gravity is something to get used to if I’m going to be part of the crew. I was bouncing off the walls like a kangaroo. I got a lovely tour of the Russian lab, the American lab, the sleeping capsules, the store room, and more! There were laptops attached to the wall so they don’t float away (that would be bad if they did). And in the sleeping capsules, your sleeping bag was attached to the ground/celling, whatever you would like to call it because, technically, there is no up or down in space. Ok so now that I told you a bit about what it was like, let me tell you about my routine. Now it’s the next morning, and I have just woken up. First thing I need to do is brush my teeth. I go over to the ‘bathroom’ area, and find my toiletry bag, this holds my; tooth brush and paste, my comb and hair ties, my shampoo and conditioner and my water. I do what you normally do on earth; grab my tooth brush, put some paste on it and brush! (super exciting) when it’s time to spit out the tooth paste, you actually swallow it. Yes, you may be thinking “ew why would you swallow it?” well do you want a tooth paste blob floating around the space station? No, I didn’t think so. I also have to exercise daily, to keep fit. So... off to the training room I go! We have a stationary bike, but the thing is, it’s not stationary. It’s not bolted on to the wall, because if you were to cycle, you would move side to side, and so would the solar panels on the outside of the ISS, making the whole station unstable. After an hours’ worth of cycling and not going anywhere but left and right, I was starving. So, I made my way to the food store room. I had a half-eaten energy bar lying around from the day before, I decide to pair that with some beans and sausage. Throughout the rest of the day I helped carry out some plant-based experiments, to help grow vegetation on mars. I didn’t go on a spacewalk as I’m a new trainee, but I did get to see some others go out. And before I knew it, it was dusk. And I did what I usually do on earth, change, brush my teeth, sleep and eat, (but not in that order, obviously) That is the end of my life in the ISS! By Aariyana 6D
note Here’s the en giv they were ce their to announ into t en recr uitm NASA! I’m in the international space station and I like it. There is zero gravity and you float. Every move is in the air like flying. The space inside the space station is very small and moving around is difficult. Personal hygiene is not the same like on earth. There is no running water because water will float everywhere. There are no showers, but instead I use dry shampoo and wet wipes. I wet my toothbrush with a floating drop of water and brush my teeth and then swallow. Have to be careful toothpaste not to get into my nose!
We have been in space for 4 months now and everything is different from earth. The most significant change was definitely that there was no gravity it was so cool it felt like I was free and powerful I could guide myself through space craft by pushing against things and floating around.
In order to sleep you have to tie down your sleeping bag on the wall and yourself so you do not float away or hit the ceiling.
In the morning you wake up and go down to the washroom this was the hardest change for me. We had to pee into a tube with like a funnel at the top and you had you had to do your number 2s into a hole that was 10 times smaller than a toilet ball. On top of all of that your pee could float around in bubbles it is disgusting both of them have a bit of suction to help you. We had normal tissue but we also had other stuff encase of an accident like: gloves, Russian wipes, tissues, hubbies’ wipes and disinfectant wipes.
Working is hard but exciting. The greatest part is when you walk in space. You are tied to the station and wear a space suit with oxygen tank. In order to move you don’t walk obviously as there is no gravity but instead you need to move like you are swimming.
When you brush your teeth the tooth paste sticks to your tooth brush and so does the water so that is easy when your done brushing your teeth and you need to spit it out you have two options you can either swallow it which tastes really bad or you can spit it out in a paper towel.
Food is pre-packaged in a cream or dry and you add water. Food is boring in space. Preparing to eat is a challenge because you chase the food not to get away!
I slept in the sleeping station in a sleeping bag to make sure I didn’t float around. The sleeping station is also like an office so I worked in there a little and I also had some toys to make it feel like home.
Exercising is hard. You can do weights and walk on the treadmill but all that you must do strapped! The view is amazing. You can see earth and the sun and a trillion stars. by Panos 6D
My favourite time of day was when we got to eat. We actually had an array of different foods for breakfast like toast, eggs, etc. Some of the foods were dehydrated to we had to hydrate them but some were hydrated so all we had to do was heat them up. I wore a really cool spacesuit and when I went outside which had oxygen and kept me safe when I went to repair things. We still had to exercise because our bodies were getting weaker because we were not fighting against the force of gravity. We exercised by going on the treadmill, riding a bike and weight lifting. by Raahi 6D

A Message from Mrs. Blake
How to play charades from Mrs. Blake
Choose a player to start the game. The player thinks of a book title, a famous person’s name, a saying, a film title or a song title to act out. They should choose something with which the others will be familiar. If you like, designate a category like sports or Disney. The player then acts the word or phrase they’ve chosen to the other players. Here are some common clues used in charades: • To indicate a book, pretend to read a book. • To indicate a song, pretend to sing. • To indicate a film, pretend to crank an old movie camera. • To indicate the number of words, hold up that many fingers. (Then hold up one finger before pantomiming the first word, two fingers before the second, and so on.) • To pantomime a word that rhymes with the word you want players to guess, first tug on your ear to indicate “sounds like.” The first person to guess the word or phrase gets a point and has the next turn If you like, divide into teams before playing. Players from each team take turns pantomiming for their teammates. The first team to guess the word or phrase gets a point. Keep track of the points earned by each player or team. The one with the most points at the end of the game wins.
The Hat Game from Mrs. Blake
Best played in teams of three or more. You will need: A hat Pens or pencils Small pieces of paper A sense of humour! Rules: Everyone thinks of 5 famous people, fact or fiction, writes them on pieces of paper, folds the papers and puts them in a hat. The idea of the game is to collect as many names as you can. Don’t tell anyone who you have thought of! The first player takes a name from the hat, reads it and has to describe who the person is to the other members of the team. Someone from the other team is the timer, as each person only has one minute. Take it in turns. BUT … Round 1: In the first round, you may not use any geographical reference, so for H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, you could say “The President” but not “The President of Kenya”. If you use a geographical term, you lose your turn. If someone on your team guesses correctly, keep the paper. You can put a name back in the hat if you get stuck. When all the names are gone add up how many each team has got. Then put them all back in the hat. This is a crucial part of the game. The names go back in the hat. So – try to remember who is “in the hat”! Round Two: This time you may only use one word to describe the character. You can use any word, so you could say “President” or “Kenya”. If you use more than one word, your turn is over. When Round Two is over, count up the names for each team and put them back in the hat. Round Three: No words at all. Just acting and gestures. At the end of the game, add up the number of correct names for the three rounds to make a final total rson, the same pe and declare one team the winner! will think of le s ar op pe pe ap n, e .
