Recipe of the Week PINEAPPLE CRUMBLE (Serves 4)
Ingredients: 1 ripe pineapple 6 Tbsp Sugar 8 Tbsp Butter 4 cups Self rising flour 2 Tbsp cinnamon 1 Tbsp ginger 1/2 cup Pineapple juice

Directions: 1. In bowl Rub the butter, flour, sugar and ginger into a sandy mixture. 2. Peel and cut pineapple into cubes and in sauce pan cook for 5 min with the cinnamon and pineapple juice 3. Spread the pineapple in a baking dish and top with the crumble mixture. 4. Bake at 180˚C for 20mins or till it browns to your liking.

Last week, the Juniors were continuing with testing their fitness levels, agility and core strength. Some were taking part in the work outs.
JUNIOR S SENIORS The seniors did Toby Francombe’s Rugby Challenge and the girls had the netball challenge. Toby Francombe is currently the highest ranked player in his position in the Kenya Simbas at the moment.

Coded Messages I once met a man called Simon Singh. He is probably the cleverest man I have ever met! He was giving a talk about codes and cyphers and something called an Enigma Machine. I was fascinated by the whole business of codes, so here are a couple of li le challenges. An easy code to use is called a Ceaser Shi (named a er Julius Ceasar who invented it). Each le er of the alphabet is replaced by another one. So, you could use a shi of 1, where A becomes B, B becomes C and so on. You have to “loop” the le ers so Z becomes A in this example.

The code on the left uses a shift of 3. Can you work out what this word is? K H O O R . Find the letter in the right hand column, and write down the letter that is against it in the left hand column. K=>H; h=>E and so on. How would you write the word D O G in code? Use the left column and write the word next to it. D=>G; O=>R; G=>J. Make up a few words. If you share them with a friend, make sure they know how many places the letters have shifted! A harder code to crack uses a 5 by 5 square. The letters are placed in the square in random order. Y and Z occupy the same square. If you and a friend have the same square, you can send messages to eachother! You just send each other the coordinates of each letter, like using a map. This is very good practice for maths and geography! Remember to go “along the corridor and up the stairs” In this square, the letter H is 1,5 and the letter K is 3,2. What does this say? 2,2 ; 4,5 ; 1,2 ; 3,2 ; 1,4
