Monday Morning Assembly Working together
A Message to the Parents Dear Peponi House Parents, Another busy week nears its end and I remain hugely impressed with the sheer dedication everyone is putting into the online study programme. Teachers and TAs are honing their approaches and lessons are being planned and re-planned in the light of experience. The children are getting better and better at managing their work at home. Teachers tell me some pupils are submitting several versions of the work to hand, each one more impressive than the last. This endeavor is highly commendable, although we must not expect teachers to give their fullest feedback on each and every occasion! Well done everyone and thank you to parents for supporting and enabling all this hard work. Parent Teacher/Tutor Meetings to review your child’s progress over the term to date will be taking place in the week beginning Monday 28th September. Teachers or Tutors will be in touch to make arrangements. Online programmes that support the children’s learning: Reading Eggs, Maths Seeds, Mathletics, Education City and IXL, are being introduced into specific Year Groups over the coming days and weeks. Teachers will be in touch with details and logins for the children. Trials in some classes have gone very well and the children will enjoy the variety, stimulation and challenge these programmes bring. Friday 2nd October and Friday 20th November will be dedicated ‘rest and catch up days’ across Peponi Schools. We will be closed and there will be no registration nor schoolwork set on these days. The children can rest, catch up with work they may have outstanding or complete online programme activities, as described above, should you wish. Uniform is available from the school shop and we have been reassured that house sports shirts in particular are in stock. School fees remain payable as per the notice from the Board last month. Do remember that you can obtain an extra 5% reduction in the fees for this term, on top of the 25% discount, should you pay your fees before the end of this month. There is much speculation around regarding schools reopening, and of course we would very much like to reopen our doors to all of our pupils. We miss the children as much as they miss school - and their friends. It would be good for us to be back sooner than January, but we will not be able to return until the situation improves and the Government considers it safe to do so. As soon as we hear of any concrete developments relating to the arrangements for the reopening of our school we will let you know. In the meantime, be reassured that we are making plans for the children’s return, whenever that may be. Thanks again for your continued support and with very best wishes for a restful weekend, Yours sincerely, Neil Price
Can we meet your pets? Roald Dahl loved his pets; his dogs, Cookie and Amber and Alma the goat. He replied to all the children who wrote to him and told them all about his pets. Please send me photos or drawings of you with your pets and tell us a little bit about them for next week, however strange and wonderful they are. .

“All you do is to look at a page in this book because that’s where we always will be. No book ever ends when it’s full of your friends.” - Roald Dahl - The Giraffe and the Pelly and me About Roald Dahl Roald Dahl was a spy, an ace fighter pilot, a chocolate historian and a medical inventor. He was also the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, and a treasury of original, evergreen, and beloved children’s books. Born in Wales, on 13th September 1916, Roald Dahl was named after Roald Amundsen, the Norwegian who had been the first man to reach the South Pole just four years earlier. At school in Repton, the pupils were invited to trial chocolate bars, a memory that stayed with Roald Dahl, inspiring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After school, Dahl went first to Canada, then to East Africa, where he worked until the outbreak of World War Two. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force at 23 years old. In September 1940, Dahl received severe injuries when his Gladiator crash-landed in the Western Desert. After six months recovering from his injuries he returned to action, taking part in The Battle of Athens. Later, after a posting to Washington, he supplied intelligence to MI6. In 1961 James and the Giant Peach was published, followed by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Roald then wrote screenplays for the James Bond hit You Only Live Twice and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The rest of the decade saw the publication of many other classics, including Danny the Champion of the World, The Enormous Crocodile, and My Uncle Oswald. Roald Dahl died on 23 November 1990, aged 74. The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre continues his extraordinary mission to amaze, thrill and inspire generations of children and their parents.
