INTERNATIONAL
DAY OF PEACE 21 SEPTEMBER
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. This year, it has been clearer than ever that we are not each other’s enemies. Rather, our common enemy is a tireless virus that threatens our health, security and very way of life. COVID-19 has thrown our world into turmoil and forcibly reminded us that what happens in one part of the planet can impact people everywhere. https://www.un.org/en/observances/ international-day-peace
Monday Morning Assembly
A Message to the Parents Dear Peponi House Parents, I hope you are all safe and well. Here at school there has actually been quite a bit of action as we consider our preparedness for possibly opening next month and the building works for the new school move towards completion. Needless to say everyone is very excited about the prospect of returning to school and we keenly await further guidance from the Government regarding this. Come next week we should be able to give you rather more detail than we can now. Should school open after half term there will undoubtedly be some variation to previous arrangements. Keeping everyone safe will absolutely be our priority and we are working on our Risk Assessments in this respect. From your point of view there will be some changes to the school routine that are inevitable. It will be great to see everyone again and the teachers are very much looking forward to renewing their relationships with their classes. We recognise that there will be need to adapt our teaching and the learning experience in the light of the past six months and we aim to cover any learning shortfalls and refocus as quickly as possible. Ensuring the foundations of future learning are in place, alongside the application and hard work necessary to make that happen, will be our priority. ‘Back to school’ would never have been more welcome and there is certainly much to look forward to. The school day will be different due to the necessity to stagger and manage arrivals and departures from the school site. Lesson arrangements will be adapted as we seek to minimise interaction across Year Groups whilst achieving maximum academic outcomes. Pupil movement around school will need to be carefully managed and we will be operating a most thorough hand washing, cleaning and hygiene regime. The normal delivery of snacks and lunches will be affected and some of the activities that used to take place will not be able to happen. Overall though, we aim to offer a return to the stimulating all round education you are used to and that Peponi is renowned for. To avoid changing at school, pupils will be able to come in changed for Games on days that their classes take part in sport. I had the pleasure of discussing our older pupils’ forthcoming grades this week and even at this early stage of the term it is great to see the evidence of so much hard work. These times really have been quite extraordinary and, although the concept of what is possible in terms of distance learning has changed forever, I expect we will look back in years to come on the last six months with a degree of awe. The fact that so much adaption has taken place and that family life has been so changed – and yet so much has carried on so successfully, is an utterly extraordinary achievement. My children are at work and university and that has been a worry. To do as you have all done, to work yourselves and to have had the challenge of keeping your children safe and entertained at home whilst supporting their schoolwork is a truly great feat. Friday 2nd October remains a catch up and rest day as mentioned in last week’s letter. School will be closed that day and there will be no formal school work set. The children can catch up with any unfinished work or take a rest from it as you wish. The new online programmes are proving very popular and pupils may tackle some challenges there if you would like to keep them busy! We hope to have the IXL package for Years 5-8 Maths and English fully up and running next week. I hope you enjoy a restful weekend, With very best wishes, Yours sincerely,
Neil Price
