We say

‘Goodbye!’

and wish all of Year 8 the best of luck in the future.

A letterMorning from Mr.Assembly Price Monday Dear Parents, When Year 8 pupils leave Peponi House we know they are ready for the next stage in their life and in their education. That has probably never been more true than for this Year 8 group. Simply turning thirteen feels special. You are a teenager and looking forward to those exciting years ahead, although often with a little trepidation…. I am sure we all remember that feeling! Alongside that we have all had to manage a very difficult year. This has been a school year like no other. Disrupted and abridged, full of innovation and challenge, and yet opportunity too. We have had to learn to learn in a new way. Our IT skills have gone through the roof! We have had to work differently, socialize differently and grow up differently. Despite all of this our Year 8s are more than ready for whatever September brings. Combining their many years at Peponi with the unwanted stimulation of the last sixteen months has sharpened everyone’s appreciation of ‘the norm’. Enthusiasm and thankfulness for our families, our friends, our school and our work has been refocused. These young people will quite rightly approach their future with relish. They will be excited and energized. They have seen a darker side and know they have so much more to look forward to. They are fully equipped and ready to go. I have very much enjoyed getting to know our Year 8 pupils this year. They are all likeable and agreeable. They smile and charm. They are great young adults. They will all go far and we look forward to hearing about their many successes over the years to come. Kwaheri ya Kuonana. We will miss you!

Mr Price

Yea Year 2 have been so busy this half of term. We used playdough to make a farm, grew an allotment and drew hippos. We learnt about Islam, drew a mosque and wrote about the 5 pillars of Islam. We even had a special snack time eating mahambri to celebrate the month of Ramadan. In humanities, we have been studying the oceans and seas of the world with our case study on the Galapagos Islands. We researched Charles Darwin and made puppet shows using old boxes for the stage. We acted out Charles Darwin’s expeditions and some of the amazing creatures he met.

Sewing, Posters & Optical Art

4D had a great time sewing their own felt soft pillows and had a great time completing their D.T projects of making bamboo pencil holders. The children had to stick different sized pots, then sand it down, then paint and varnish their pencil holders. As part of a PSHE project they created posters about how they were each different, yet special. 4D also had a great time drawing their optical art pictures to create the effect of illusion.

Would 5Ps posters entice you to leave freezing Britain to come and set up a new life for yourself on the sunshine bathed rolling plains of Kenya?

Swimming News The coaches have been busy with Lifeguard training. In Time Trials, Lisa Kamphuis in 4S broke the 25m Breaststroke Record. Old Record Sophie Cox 2019 – 25.42 New Record Lisa Kamphuis 2021 – 24.37 What an achievement! Well done Lisa! And now for a small history lesson... Way back in 2015, a young boy left the school called Kabir Singh Bedi. A talented all round swimmer and certainly one of the top swimmers to compete for the school. In 2015 the record books show that he held five school swimming records. Under 11 and Under 13 Individual medley, Under 13 50m Breaststroke, Under 13 50m Backstroke and Under 13 50m Butterfly. Over the years his records have fallen one by one. A testament to how much our children are improving in swimming performance. Now let’s get to the present day... Kabir’s final record has been broken and he will no longer appear on the swimming record books! Harnek Singh has broken the Boys Under 13 50m Breaststroke school record in a time of 39.37! This is a huge achievement for the Boys Swimming Captain. Well done Harnek!

Why do w

Meat Free

TO SLOW DOWN GLOBAL WARMING 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture. In particular, cows produce very high methane levels – considering that methane traps 100 times more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, mass-scale beef production presents a huge threat to the climate. TO SLOW DOWN DEFORESTATION Did you know that at least 70% of deforested areas in the Amazon Rainforest have been replaced with pasture land for animal grazing? Moreover, the majority of soybean production is primarily destined for livestock feed; between 2004 and 2005 1.2 million hectares of rainforest were cut down as a result of this soybean production being expanded as the demand for meat grew. FOR BETTER GLOBAL FOOD DISTRIBUTION By reducing the demand for meat, all the resources and grain used for feeding animals can be used to feed malnourished humans FOR A REDUCTION IN FACTORY FARMING Factory farms are bad for animals because it makes it so they can’t live a natural life. ... Animals feel stress, anxiety, and fear like humans. Being contained, often times in spaces so small they can’t move is cruel. Animals live much shorter lives on factory farms. THE BENEFITS TO YOUR HEALTH OF MEAT FREE MONDAYS • Eating less meat and more plant-based foods, such as vegetables, beans, and nuts, can improve heart health and reduce the risk of heart disease • Skipping even a half serving of meat every day and replacing it with a plant protein like beans or tofu can decrease your risk of getting type 2 diabetes • Substituting plant-based foods for meat can help you maintain a healthy weight • Cutting back on red and processed meat and eating more plant-based foods can promote kidney health • Beans, nuts, soy, and other vegetables can give you all the protein you need in one day

Mondays? In a world where children and people do not have access to clean and safe drinking water… let’s do our bit by cutting meat out on only 1 day of the week.

Messages from the

Year 8 Spanish Class

Mt. Kenya 14 of our Year 8s climbed Mt. Kenya after their CE exams. The group walked 13 hours on their last day - comprising an ascent of 800m, followed by a 2700m descent. They were so fortunate with the weather blue skies and sunshine throughout. Of the 14 girls on the trip, 12 summited. Everyone had made it to Mintos Camp, though, which is an incredible feat already. There were a couple of cases of acute mountain sickness, though the girls who had it managed to summit (though once at the top they couldn’t wait to go back down the mountain!). Well done to you all!
