NO OVERNIGHT PARKING
NOOSA SPIT TRIAL
In response to growing community frustration, Noosa Council is conducting a 10pm4am No-Parking Zone trial at Noosa Woods to curb illegal camping, which is having a significant impact on amenities, community safety, and the environment. Some campers have been using the parks and gardens as toilets, and leaving considerable rubbish behind. The impact of illegal camping is causing significant frustration for residents. In 2022 alone Council received 434 complaints, and this year that number has already surpassed 400.
Noosa Spit has emerged as a significant hotspot for illegal
parking. Illegal campers are clogging up carparks and creating a shortage of parking for residents and visitors. There are plenty of low-cost options for visitors in vans to stay overnight so there is no reason they should be camping illegally in public areas. Starting from August 28, 2023, a trial period for the no-parking zone will be implemented along Claude Batten Drive on Noosa Spit. There will be a two-week transition period focusing on education, which will allow the community time to adapt to the changes. Signage will be installed shortly along Claude Batten Drive to explain the new arrangements. To minimise disruption for those visiting and working in Hastings

SPIRIT OF PEREGIAN
EMBRACING SPRING'S RENEWAL
HELLO COMMUNITY,
This month holds a special significance as we celebrate not only the arrival of Spring but also the cherished occasion of Father's Day.
As the blossoms unfold, flowers bloom and nature awakens, Spring encourages us to look forward, and hit the reset button. Whether it be resolutions that have been restarted or just time to kickstart a change, Spring brings with it a sense of cheerful optimism.
The milder temperatures and extension of daylight hours allow for the perfect time to explore all our shores have to offer. It’s such a pleasant time to be outdoors without the extreme Summer heat, and doesn’t nature just illuminate during this season. Whilst out and about just a friendly reminder from our local snake catchers that snakes are on the move. Early spring weather has seen our slithery reptile friends move in great numbers and due to mating season, snakes are being encountered anywhere and everywhere. So just be mindful whilst you explore our shores.
As Spring is sprung, we encourage you to immerse yourself in the richness and insights generously woven into these pages. From heartfelt tales to expert guidance and inspiring narratives, there's a treasure trove of content for everyone to relish.
Lastly, we extend our warmest wishes to all fathers, grandfathers and father figures, for your love, support and guidance that has enriched our lives in countless ways. We salute you. Happy Father’s Day to you all!
Warmest Regards, Darren Van Der Westhuizen

NOOSA SPIT NO-PARKING TRIAL
From Page 1
Street, the first two carparks at the business end of Claude Batten Drive are excluded from the trial. Increased patrols will ensure they’re not being used for illegal camping by travellers in vans after moving on from the Spit. Local Laws Officers will continue to conduct illegal camping patrols across the shire, including Noosa Woods. At times these patrols will be carried out in conjunction with Queensland Police.
The Noosa Spit 10pm-4am No-Parking Zone is a trial and will be reviewed to determine its success. The review will take place after two months, considering factors such as the number of illegal camping/parking infringements issued, and community feedback.
The trial will not only direct campers to appropriate facilities that meet their needs, but also enable more people who wish to
get a parking spot near the beach and access local businesses in the morning a chance to do so.
If you have any further questions or would like to provide feedback regarding this trial please contact Noosa Council.

GAME-CHANGING TECHNIQUE
GOLF
TIP - WITH PGA PROFESSIONAL KATELYN MUST. ENHANCE YOUR GOLF SHOTS WITH CORRECT WRIST HINGE.
Mastering the art of wrist hinge in your golf swing can be a game-changer for better strikes.
The secret is in understanding the timing and mechanics of the wrists.
Start with a relaxed grip, if you are holding the grip to tight you won’t be able to hinge your wrists and alternatively you will use the wrong areas of your body.
A good test for this is to keep your hands where they are (ideally while you’re addressing the golf ball) and hinge your wrists to make the club shaft and club head bend upwards, without lifting your hands up.
This is the feeling you want to have as the backswing initiates.
When you start your backswing, the wrists
start hinging from the initial phase.
Gradually hinge as you swing back, with the goal of a 90degree angle between your club shaft and lead arm at the top of your backswing.
With great wrist hinge it allows the energy to be stored and release at the perfect moment when you strike the ball, enhancing the contact and optimising club head speed.
Hope you enjoyed this tip, happy golfing Katelyn
THEFT PREVENTION, GROWTH OPPOSITION, AND LATEST NEWS
PROTECT YOUR VEHICLES FROM THEFT
Hello fellow Noosans! To begin, a reminder again to lock up, as we have had cars stolen recently, with these perpetrators (not locals) already charged. These offenses are being done from ‘opportunity’, so let’s not make it easy for them?
OPPOSING UNSUSTAINABLE GROWTH IN NOOSA SHIRE
As reported throughout the last month, the draft ShapingSEQ 2023 Update has opened for consultation with a projected permanent population by 2046 for the Noosa Shire of 76,000 residents which is not feasible nor sustainable. That is 13,000 more than what we can sustainably carry, equivalent to Christmas peak season every day. There are many who have fought so hard for Noosa over the decades, and we need to fight again, for our communities, our environment and our economy. To assist in efforts, we ask everyone to make a valid submission to State Government, and if possible, attend the information session being held 4pm 29 August at ‘Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church (Noosa District) Parish Hall’ 5 Moorindil St, Tewantin. Registration for this and the draft, as well information on how to have your say through submissions, is available via Noosa 360 at www.SandyBolton.com/ Draft-Southeast-Queensland-Regional-PlanAugust-2023.

SPIRIT OF PEREGIAN RETURNS
UNITING COMMUNITY FOR CHARITY AND LIFESAVING SUPPORT
Spirit of Peregian is back for its fourth year with this year’s ‘Sea of Blue’ event raising funds for much-loved charity Katie Rose Cottage Hospice as well as lifesaving equipment for Peregian Beach Surf Life Saving Club on Saturday, 9 September.
The concept for the event was created by Peregian residents’ association Peregian Family and Friends President, Leigh McCready, who said: “We started the event to recognise the heroic work of the emergency service men and women who fought hard to save many homes after fires tore through the community in 2019.”
“The goal of this annual event is to give back to the community whilst creating a fun environment that everyone is welcome to be a part of. In 2023 we are doing a Long Lunch instead of an evening Gala and we have invited three very special local restaurants to each cater a course.”
“It’s always an amazing atmosphere in Peregian Park, with live music, great food & drinks from incredible chefs, and guest speakers who really resonate with the audience.”
“Our success in raising $32,000 in 2020 for the Verrierdale Rural Fire Brigade and $80,000
over two years for the Surf Life Saving Club demonstrates the power we have as a local community when we unite & support local initiatives together.”
After the previous two years of fundraising, Leigh recognises first-hand the importance of the community spirit and the impact it can have on the Peregian community.
The event takes place in Peregian Park on September 9th, from 12-6pm. Tickets are inclusive of a three-course gourmet meal, cocktail on arrival, raffles, auctions and live music all afternoon.
Tickets can be purchased at: https://aus. givergy.com/SpiritofPeregian2023. Follow Peregian Family & Friends on Facebook and Instagram for more info.

KOALA ENCOUNTERS
REPORT KOALA SIGHTINGS FOR CONSERVATION EFFORTS
This little ted was out and looking for love when a local resident snapped it crossing the road. Sunshine Coast Council’s Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Maria Suarez is calling on others to report the koala sightings through the Queensland Government’s QWildlife app.
“There are some amazing images of Sunshine Coast koalas being uploaded to QWildlife,” Cr Suarez said.
“This one was snapped at Palmview Forest next to a fauna crossing.
“Just in the last month we have seen three koala sightings in Buderim and a number of koalas reported between Mapleton and Montville.
“When koala sightings are reported by using the app, Council is able to access the data and it helps to build our knowledge about Sunshine Coast koala populations – which is one of the goals of our Sunshine Coast Koala Conservation Plan.
“It’s simple and easy to do, and you don’t always need a photo – you can report koalas
even if you only hear their distinctive bellow.
“The app helps you to identify if the koala is healthy, sick or injured and connects you with wildlife carers who can help.”
Report koala sightings
If you see a wild koala, report it using the free QWildlife app for iOS and Android.
If you find sick or injured wildlife, call 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625).
Koala breeding season
Councillor Suarez encouraged people to keep an eye out for koalas to help keep them safe this breeding season.
“Koala breeding season runs from August to February, and this is when koalas are most active, often crossing roads and coming into people’s backyards,” Cr Suarez said.
“Council is part of an Australia-wide effort to protect koalas and we encourage our community to join us to protect these iconic Australian animals.”
Search ‘koalas’ on Council’s website for more tips on how you can help or visit https:// www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/environment/ native-animals/koala-conservation.
