RECREATION CENTRE OUTCOME

Peregian Springs Recreation Centre

Our Council is really pleased to hear the news that the Peregian Springs Recreation Centre has been purchased by St Andrews Anglican College, which will enable the College to expand their school facilities and provide community sport and recreation opportunities for the broader Peregian Springs community.

While Council also made an offer to purchase the Centre to support the community’s needs, we are delighted with the outcome as it potentially represents a great solution for both the College and local residents.

Peregian Springs Planned Burn

Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve, Peregian Springs has been earmarked for a planned burn in 2023 as part of council’s annual program.

Trained council officers work with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service to carefully assess each site and prepare for the burns.

An exact day for the burn cannot be provided in advance, as timing is highly dependent on if weather and site conditions are suitable. These conditions include temperature, humidity, wind-speed and wind direction.

Where a fire can’t go ahead, it will be rescheduled for another time. Planned burns help plant species that rely on fire to regenerate and also reduce fuel on the ground before bushfire season. Habitat trees, which may be hundreds of years old, are protected to retain animal habitat and cultural value. And some areas are left untouched to provide wildlife refuge. Fires are patrolled until safe, and there may be residual smoke.

Keep up to date with our burn schedule via council’s Facebook page and by searching ‘bushfire management’ at sunshinecoast.qld. gov.au.
