LET US KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE COMMUNITY AND HAVE A SAY IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

Urgent Call for Action

I fully endorse what was said about reckless riding in the March edition We as a couple in our 80s have felt intimidated and unnerved by some scooter riders.

In Coolum recently two riders approached my husband on his walker at speed then swerved off swearing, leaving us quite shaken. It was quite a disturbing incident as they waited further down the road and gave more abusive about us blocking the pavement It was a school day and they were about 13 years old. A member of the public actually called the police who said they would inform their patrol cars. I can still see the one youth coming towards us in his pink helmet on two wheels Some youth have no respect for the elderly which is very sad.

Grave

Danger on Local Roads.

This afternoon my husband arrived home flustered and clearly shocked after having not 1 but 2 close call accidents following 'reckless electric bike riders' between 3.30-4pm from Centenary Heights Road to West Coolum Rd

He witnessed 1 rider fall off his Electric Bike in the middle of the road then 2 minutes later another rider holding up traffic whilst practicing 'wheelies' towards oncoming traffic Graphic hand communication was then received when tooted at and instead of moving off the road the rider continued wheelies at a an unbelievable 60kph.

A total lack of respect for the road rules and concern for his own safety clearly. Anonymous

Congratulations on reaching the remarkable milestone of the 100th edition! Your dedication to delivering insightful local news & fostering a sense of community is truly commendable Over the years, your magazine has become a cherished source of information, connecting us within this delightful neighborhood. I eagerly await each month’s edition Thank you for tirelessly highlighting the stories, events, and people that make our community vibrant and unique. A Call for Community Action

In recent times, the peaceful streets of Peregian Springs, 4573, have been marred by the unruly antics of local youths on electric scooters and bicycles. What was once a serene neighborhood has now become a hotbed of terror, as residents find themselves subjected to harassment, vandalism, and intimidation at the hands of these out-of-control youths

A recent firsthand encounter sheds light on the gravity of the situation. On a routine evening stroll around the neighborhood, I found myself surrounded by a gang of approximately 15 youths on scooters and electric bicycles. Their reckless behavior not only obstructed traffic but also instilled fear among pedestrians This incident was merely one among many, as residents on Ridgeview Drive have endured months of incessant name-calling, taunting, and garage door bashing.

The audacity of these youths knows no bounds, as they brazenly film their rampages and flaunt them on social media for attention and notoriety Encounters with masked individuals on electric bicycles further reinforce the sense of lawlessness that pervades our streets. Despite efforts to engage with law enforcement, residents are met with limited recourse, as police are bound by a " no pursue policy," leaving perpetrators emboldened and communities vulnerable.

However, amidst this dire situation, there remains a glimmer of hope. Recent police intervention, coupled with community vigilance, underscores the importance of collective action in addressing this pressing issue The collaboration between residents and law enforcement to document and report incidents serves as a crucial step toward building a case against these delinquent youths.

Yet, the road ahead is fraught with challenges The lack of swift and decisive measures to curb these activities leaves us grappling with the looming specter of potential harm and tragedy. It is imperative that we mobilize as a community to demand proactive solutions and preventive measures to safeguard our streets and protect our residents

As we navigate these tumultuous times, let us remain vigilant and united in our resolve to reclaim our neighborhoods from the grip of lawlessness. Together, we must advocate for policies and interventions that prioritize public safety and deter criminal behavior The safety and well-being of our community depend on our collective action and unwavering commitment to confront this menace head-on.

In the face of adversity, let us stand firm, for it is only through solidarity and determination that we can restore peace and tranquility to our beloved Peregian Springs and neighboring communities.

Elevating Peregian Springs Golf Course

Transformative renovations are planned to commence, aiming to elevate Peregian Springs Golf Course to the targeted premier status.

In the realm of golf, few names carry as much weight as Chateraise, the esteemed dessert retailer renowned for its commitment to quality and innovation

Under the astute leadership of Hiroshi Saito, who serves as a director of Lakelands Golf Course on the Gold Coast, Chateraise has expanded its footprint to include the acquisition of Peregian Springs Golf Course on the Sunshine Coast. This strategic move marks a significant step forward in Saito's vision for excellence in the golfing world

The undisclosed purchase price for the 18-hole course reflects the intrinsic value embedded within its meticulously crafted layout. Since its inauguration in 2003 as the centerpiece of the upscale Peregian Springs residential development, the course has become a cherished asset, both as a sporting venue and as a community hub.

As indicated by its financial report lodged with ASIC, boasting a carrying value of $4 1 million, Peregian Springs Golf Course holds a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike.

Under Saito's stewardship and the meticulous guidance of Mr Hideya Fujimaki and his dedicated team, Peregian Springs Golf Course is poised to undergo a transformative journey toward excellence. The estimated $200,000 plan for a bunker refurbishment starting in May signify the initial step in a comprehensive renovation process aimed at elevating the course to the standards of the finest golfing destinations in Australia. With a focus on meticulous course maintenance, weed removal, and continuous improvement,

Saito's vision for the course transcends the boundaries of traditional golfing paradigms Hailing from Yamanashi, Japan, the birthplace of Chateraise, Hiroshi Saito's entrepreneurial journey began with humble roots. Born and raised in Katsunuma, now known as Koshu City, in the Yamandahl prefecture, Saito's upbringing in Japan's renowned "fruit kingdom" instilled in him a deep appreciation for quality and excellence. This ethos is evident in every facet of Chateraise's operations, from its vast confectionery empire to its wineries, ski resorts, and golf and country clubs, spanning across Japan and beyond

Easter works to herald eggcellent safety upgrades for Coolum students

Significant work to improve safety and reduce congestion at Coolum State School are about to get underway, with a new Stop Drop and Go area on School Road that will be located further away from the intersection with Yandina Coolum Road. Ninderry MP Dan Purdie welcomed the news, which he said was another critical piece of the puzzle to bust congestion and improve safety amidst the rapidly growing local population He praised the efforts of Coolum State School Principal Anthony Ryan, who has been working with the school’s SafeST committee, Council and TMR to upgrade the drop off area as part of the school’s new Masterplan that will eventually deliver a new building, 12 new classrooms and a new tuckshop The new drop off area will be

Dan with P&C representatives Stephanie Hartas and Clare Bates-Pay with Principal Anthony Ryan

located further down School Road to avoid cars trailing back on the roundabout during peak periods, along with 10 new parking spaces. The work will be done by Council during the upcoming Easter school holidays and has been funded by a $56,500 grant as

Bodysurfers to put Coolum on international stage

Coolum Beach has been recognised by the international community after being requested to host the 2025 World Bodysurfing championships in its second year of being run. The news follows the success of the annual Coolum Wedge bodysurfing event which attracts the country’s best bodysurfers to the Sunshine Coast.

Ninderry MP Dan Purdie said the fact that Coolum will host an international event at the highest level of competition was a massive coup for the whole region

“We already know we have some of the best surfing conditions in the world, and to play host to an international event attracting some of the world’s greatest body surfers and an international audience is better the best advertising campaign money can buy,” Mr Purdie said

“The economic benefits alone from hundreds of competitors and their families will bolster local tourism operators, with flow-on effects to every other small business in the food chain.”

Coolum Wedge co-founder Darren Verrenkamp said the growth and success of the Festival, now in its fourth year, was the cornerstone to being awarded the world titles.

“In just a few short years we ’ ve managed to grow

this event into Australia’s premier competition attracting competitors from around the world, and we ’ re excited and proud that we ’ ve made such an impact in such a short time to secure this event from other high-profile international locations,” Darren said

“This is largely thanks to the efforts of Dan and especially Bendigo Community Bank Marcoola who has been our anchor sponsor since inception, and shares the same community spirit as bodysurfing.”

Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien said the 2025 World Bodysurfing championships would help showcase the Sunshine Coast to the world.

“With the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games around the corner, this event will help demonstrate why the Sunshine Coast is fast becoming a sporting and tourism mecca, ” Mr O’Brien said.

This year ’ s Coolum Wedge, which is also a qualifier for next year ’ s championships, will be held from 26-28 April The Wedge is known for its all-inclusive vibe, hosting additional divisions for ages from 10-85. People of all abilities, from the casual body surfer to salty veterans love the competition, and cheer each other’s waves in the heats. Coolum Beach Secures 2025 World Bodysurfing Championships

Investing in Success

Coolum has long been known for its stunning beaches and vibrant coastal culture. Among its many attractions, one standout feature is its burgeoning beach volleyball scene, spearheaded by a dedicated team of professional athletes with aspirations of global success

Fresh off their impressive Silver medal win at the Australian Championships, Coolum's professional beach volleyball team is setting their sights even higher. With ambitions of competing at the 2025 World Championships in Adelaide and making a mark on the Beach Volleyball World Tour, the team is determined to establish themselves as consistent medalists on the international stage.

However, achieving these lofty goals comes with its challenges, particularly in the realm of financing. As self-funded athletes, the team relies heavily on sponsorships and support from the community to fuel their pursuits With their next campaign set to take them to the USA for a training and competition camp, followed by stops on the Japanese National Tour and the Beach Volleyball World Tour in Europe, the financial burden can be substantial.

This is where the community's support becomes indispensable By rallying behind Coolum's professional beach volleyball team, we not only invest in their dreams but also showcase our collective pride in their achievements. These athletes represent the spirit of our community – determined, passionate, and driven to succeed against all odds.

Therefore, I urge local businesses, organizations, and individuals to consider extending a helping hand to these remarkable athletes. Whether through direct sponsorship, in-kind contributions, or spreading the word to potential supporters, every gesture of support makes a tangible difference in their journey towards greatness. Improving Traffic Flow and Safety

RELOCATION OF COOLUM STATE SCHOOL'S STOP, DROP, AND GO AREA

Some exciting news to share, with funding secured to relocate Coolum State School’s Stop, Drop and Go area

During the Easter school holidays, work will be done to move the drop off area further down School Road, to stop the traffic trailing back on to the roundabout during peak periods.

This project is an essential step in our ongoing campaign to bust congestion and improve safety, preceding the $5million upgrade of the roundabout on Yandina Coolum Road, School Road and South Coolum Road.

The roundabout is set to be replaced with a signalled intersection later this year, improving safety for the many students (nearly 50%) who use active transport to get to school.

The project complements other work currently underway on the $3million business case to duplicate the Sunshine Motorway, which will include a new interchange at Coolum, and a new on-off ramp at West Coolum, and also forms a critical part of the school’s new Masterplan that will eventually deliver a new building with 12 classrooms, a new administration and tuckshop.

A huge thank you to Coolum State School Principal Anthony Ryan who together with the P&C, parents and the wider community has been working hard to get this project across the line

Thanks also to those residents who raised concerns about the new lighting on David Low, installed as part of the pedestrian and safety upgrades at the Scrub Road intersection I agree that something needs to be done

The new lighting is nothing like what TMR had indicated, and last week I wrote to them to ask for it to be reconsidered. Not only is the lighting excessive and intrusive for neighbouring residents, it will also be very detrimental to the turtles who nest straight across the road at Coolum Beach.

I’m hopeful TMR will listen to the community’s feedback and act on it. Watch this space!

Car tax impact on everyday Australians

LABOR’S FAMILY CAR TAX

The price of popular SUVs, utes, and 4WDs will soon be forced higher to help the Albanese Government subsidise the price of electric vehicles, according to industry research recently published.

Industry analysis of Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s proposed New Vehicle Efficiency Standard predicts the cost of some popular models such as the Toyota Landcruiser could rise as much as $25,000.

Forcing up the price of popular family and tradie vehicles to subsidise EV’s is not fair on hardworking Australians who rely on larger vehicles for their families, farms, and businesses. This move shows the Albanese government is out of touch given the cost-of-living crisis that so many everyday Australians are experiencing.

COOLUM WEDGE

In a coup for the region, Coolum will host the 2025 World Bodysurfing champions, following the success of the Coolum Wedge Bodysurfing group.

With the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games around the corner, this event will demonstrate the Sunshine Coast’s sporting and tourism credentials.

Congratulations to Coolum Wedge, Bendigo Bank and Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie for securing this big win. Team work!
