standard hotel- lobby

The Standard Hotel is located in the Financial District of Downtown Los Angeles and with typical clientele of young professionals. The idea of Journey, derives from the idea of the city of Los Angeles coming back to action and moving again after the pandemic. Macro and micro views of transportation movement like train systems, highway and city blocks came to mind when conceptualizing the idea of journey. The architectural language conveyed in this space is the linear movement and curves from the city blocks and highways.

standard hotel- retail shop

This Cake Shop is reinventing the way restaurants are designed post pandemic. Bringing people back into the restaurants instead of having them opt for food delivery service and room service. The cake shop is located in the first floor of the Standard Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The concept is derived from the iconic cake artists and architect Diana Kasko. The process of form finding led to the shape of the Floor Plan and Reflected Ceiling Plan that mirror the abstracted triangulation forms of the origami cake.

research analysis:

The idea of this retail shop is to bring the same clientele as the lobby from the standard hotel in to the space. The retail space will see working professionals, Banks, corporate office high rises, hotels, bars, restaurants, and tourist shopping. It also attracts neighboring visitors, locals, and tourists.

research analysis:

The concept derives from the deconstruction of Dinara Kasko’s “folding cake.”

The project uses a deconstructed grid as a start. Following the deconstructed grid follows a network of deconstructed triangular shapes connecting at one point that lower to the ground at one end and rise in others.

strava- bus conversion

The objective of this project was to turn a 33’-0” long school bus into a mobile wellness studio with outdoor patio space. Using strava as the client, the contour lines from the famous topographical heat maps were used to create a vinyl wrap for the bus. The interior was used as an experience VR space that connected the viewers with amazing scenic views of different strava sports. In addition a merchandise area and tea/ energy drink area were added to add to the experience.

microsoft tech bar- pop up store

The idea of the SAFE CUBE is to provide an essential service during the pandemic . Tech support being one of the services being left out, we decided to create a space that prioritized people who used their tech for “work from home” and had been neglected by the general tech retailer because of COVID-19 restrictions inside big stores. The Conept of Unity is about restoring the relationship between the client and the retailer back; while establishing trust again.

The idea of the SAFE CUBE is to provide an essential service during the pandemic with tech support being one of the services being left out. The Conept of Unity is about restoring the relationship between the client and the retailer back; while establishing trust again. The idea of Unity is sealed off in this element by bringing in broken pieces and shapes together and finishing up the idea of forms coming together from the inside out.

cultural hub- casa de cartró

The Cultural Hub is located in Barcelona, Spain next to Besos River. This site was a former cardboard factory and was used by the local blue collar workers. The main idea of this project is to bring the locals and back to gether in the same space. The project focuses on the idea of intergenerational connections between local blue collar workers, local food, and the traditional architecture of the factory and Barcelona.

San José State University | Team Project | December 2021

Software: Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape

19 20

research analysis:

One of the biggest factors for this scope was the fact that the generation age gap was really big. The average age in Barcelona is about 45, which puts three generations very far from each other. The surrounding area of Barcelona has many farmers markets, live environment, cultural food and traditional Catalan architecture. The project building used to be a cardboard factory for the local blue collar workers and is now being used for a cultural center.

research analysis:

When thinking about concept we looked back at the traditional architecture of Barcelona, the existing architecture of the building, and the shape and form of how cardboard is made, given the existing building used to serve that purpose.
