Terry Fox Run remembers the hero for cancer
By Kate Everson
EMC News - Trenton “Did you ever know that you’re my hero?” sings Trenton Idol winner Michayla Maryhuca. “You are the wind beneath my wings.” The perfect voice rang out into a clear sky behind Trenton High School on Sunday, the day of the Terry Fox Run. Not long afterward, a huge flock of blackbirds flew over the parking lot where volunteers were exercising to get ready for the run. Like the song, Terry Fox’s cause was on the hearts of many who were there that day, a tribute to all those who have fought and are still fighting cancer. “This is the world’s largest one day fund raiser,” said organizer Tanya DeWitt. Hastings County Historical Society town crier Bruce Bedell rang the bell and announced the beginning of the run. Heather

It was a fairly large committee representing a broad cross section of the community.” McSweeney explained how three theme areas—community development, economic development and tourism— were highlighted as the main pillars of
the plan and where they overlapped became the essence of success. “We deemed these to be the key priorities that get implemented,” he said. “So, if you want to dedicate any resources at all, that’s really where the focus should be early on because they’ll have the most significant impact in moving Brighton forward.” The list includes: prioritizing and employing recommendations in the Vision for Recreation, Trails and Green Space report and the Accommodations Assessment; developing arts, culture and heritage (“the idea is to help grow this sector - it will help the community, the economy, as well as tourism”); developing the necessary infrastructure to help people who are already in business or thinking about starting a business get going in Brighton; supporting a youth mentorship program and introducing
