DAY TRIP/ VISIT OVERNIGHT STAY

DAY 5 - Monday Rome ➤ Siena ➤ Dinner in Hotel This morning, after breakfast, we head North for Siena, “The Beloved” city in Tuscany. Its historical center has been declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. We visit the famed Piazza del Campo, one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares, and the site of Siena’s famous two-times-a-year horse race, the Palio de Siena. We visit Siena’s town hall, Palazzo Pubblico, a beautiful gothic building which sits on Piazza del Campo by the bell tower, and the enchanting Duomo featuring the most ornate mosaic floor in all Italy. It took 200 years and 40 artisans to complete! Tonight we’ll enjoy a delicious Tuscan dinner in our hotel. BB, D

All this history will surely make you hungry, so you will be able to enjoy lunch on your own at any nearby pizzeria or trattoria. Next we travel to Bologna, the gastronomic capital of Italy. To Italians, Bologna is known as the city of the Two Towers; worldwide it’s known as the city of lasagna, tagliatelle, tortellini, Bolognese sauce and mortadella. Good food must help boost brain power so that’s probably why Bologna is home to the oldest university in Europe. Tonight we enjoy dinner in our hotel. BB, D

DAY 8 - Thursday Bologna ➤ City Sightseeing ➤ Dinner Out Tonight This morning, our city sightseeing tour will include the two adjoining squares, Piazza Maggiore and Piazza del Nettuno that form the heart of Bologna. We’ll also see the Neptune Fountain, the Communal Palace, Governor’s Palace and the Basilica of St. Petronius, the fifth biggest church in the world. At this Basilica, be sure to take in the controversial late gothic fresco representing a scene from Dante’s Inferno, in which Mohammed is being devoured in Hell by demons.

DAY 9 - Friday Bologna ➤ Parma ➤ Lunch with Wines ➤ Modena ➤ Bologna This morning we head to Parma where we will begin our visit of the Parmigiano cheese factory, to learn about the history of this delicious cheese and its production. The region of Emilia Romagna boasts more than 1,600 cheese factories where the art of making this world-renowned cheese has been handed down for centuries. Next we have a visit to a Parma ham factory to see how prosciutto is made, and then enjoy a delightful lunch, tasting all of these local delicacies. On the way back to Bologna, we will stop in the Modena area, known as “the capital of engines,” since the factories of Ferrari, De Tomaso, Lamborghini, and Maserati are located here, and we taste the local, refreshing Lambrusco wine. Tonight, meet up with your new friends for dinner on your own. Don’t forget to exchange emails and make plans for the future. BB, L

DAY 10 - Saturday Bologna ➤ USA This morning we board our flights home, but we realize we’re taking a little piece of Italy (and Parmigiano) back with us. Thanks for traveling with the Perillo family and please return soon. BB

This afternoon is yours to enjoy! You may want to check out Galleria Cavour where you will find every famous Italian designer shop. Take a stroll along Via Zamboni, the main university street, and Piazza Santo Stefano, possibly the most beautiful square in Bologna. Tonight we enjoy a typical Bolognese dinner out at a characteristic local restaurant. BB, D

DAY 6 - Tuesday Siena ➤ San Gimignano ➤ Lunch/Wine Tasting ➤ Chianti ➤ Siena Tuscany is a region renowned for its wine and today we’ll get to enjoy a typical Tuscan lunch and wine tasting, after a visit to San Gimignano, another town declared by UNESCO to be part of the World’s Architectural Heritage. We’ll view the fourteen towers that dominate the skyline of this medieval town, which is also known as the City of Beautiful Towers.
