Coping With Hearing Loss Once your hearing has been damaged or lost, there are very few things doctors can do to restore it. Life begins to change in the form of hearing aids, closed caption television, hearing loss phones, and hearing aids. Some of these can be a remedy. However, first you will have to learn to cope with this loss. Ringing in your ears will cause annoyance and discomfort. Hearing loss can do the same. Many going through this feel heavy frustrations and struggle to cope through it. The best way to cope is first to see a doctor. Visiting with them about your condition can help you understand the cause and solutions for your condition. They may be able to prescribe you medications to ease your discomfort or will be able to assess if there is any way to repair your ears’ function. Next, we suggest testing the use of antihistamines. Because many ear problems are connected with clogged up sinuses, you may find relief in taking some of these medicines capable of unclogging your ears. After that we would suggest gently cleaning out your ears. Do not stick objects in, but clean them out daily to ensure that you are not accumulating waxy build up. Your doctor would have checked your ears, and alerted you to heavy wax. Do not try to remove wax without professional help for the dangers of harming your eardrum. Lastly, we do suggest finding peace by adding noises. No, we do not suggest that you start going to more loud concerts, or let things bang or pop by your ear. Instead, we suggest adding some quiet white noise or soothing sounds. Having something as a distraction will help you ease into the ear ringing. As you age, we are all going to experience some hearing loss. Work to protect your ears from excessive damage, but also get comfortable with technology’s advancements to help with hearing loss. Pick up free hearing loss phones, turn on the captions on shows or televisions, and talk to a doctor about a hearing-assisting device.
