and welcome to the 2013 Parade of Homes Plus, presented by the Builders Association of Elkhart County and sponsored by Mid-City Supply. The association is celebrating the 47th annual Parade of Home Plus Remodelers Showcase this year. As chairperson, I wish to thank everyone participating in so many different ways—the builders

and remodelers first and foremost, the developers, the associate members offering services and products for each of the homes, and the Parade of Homes committee members. It truly takes a “team effort” to make this community event successful year after year! To our Executive Officer, Kim McKibbin and Executive Assistant, Liz Ganger—the hours and effort they provide are priceless. “We all thank you!” Our builders and remodelers meet the highest standards available to offer you a quality home. Be sure to visit all 14 homes plus the two remodeling projects. Each offers a unique style and look for you to enjoy. The builders will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Welcome to the 2014 Parade

of Homes Plus hosted by the Elkhart County Builders Association. We sincerely hope the 47th year for the event doesn’t disappoint with 14 new homes and two remodel projects. This year’s event is a scattered home site event with many new trends and materials being showcased. As our once crippled economy continually shows promise, thoughts of a new or remodeled home maybe at your doorstep. This premier event is the place to start with more than a dozen builders and remodelers showing their stuff. Not only will the builders be on display but so will the labors, sub-contractors, suppliers, and decorators that have made all this available for you to see. The Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards provide, for the first time ever, new homebuyers and remodeling customers a way to measure their builder and the project against an industry approved set of standards. These Standards have been developed as a service to new home consumers and remodeling customers. These Standards create a series of performance standards that builders and customers can use to communicate and understand each other’s expectations regarding building/remodeling projects.

A Measurable Difference: What it means to you, the consumer.

The Standards address the most prevalent issues that arise between the builder and the customer before the project, during the project, and most importantly, after the project is completed. All too often it is the unrealized or undiscovered expectations that create the majority of the problems encountered in the building/remodeling process. The Standards will help eliminate these problems before the project even begins. The Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards provide you with the confidence that professionals in the industry are handling your project. Make sure your builder of remodeler is a member of the Builders Association of Elkhart County and a Standards Builder and/or Standards Remodeler, and be sure that you receive your Standards manual at contract signing or at closing.

These acronyms represent EDUCATIONAL DESIGNATIONS the builder and remodeler has achieved to improve his/her understanding of the construction industry. They represent many hours of continuing education.

CGP

Certified Green Professional is for single family builders, multifamily builders, remodelers, developers, land planners, architects and designers, energy raters, home inspectors, utilities staff, product manufacturer and supplier.

CGB

Certified Graduate Builder is an exclusive professional designation designed to emphasize business and project management skills as the key to a professional building operation.

CAPS

Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist is a professional designation designed to expand your understanding of the aging-in-place market, provide the necessary technical knowledge and resources, and give tools to gain access to the market.

Look for the EDUCATIONAL DESIGNATIONS, QUALITY ASSURANCE STANDARDS and EnergyStar logos, noted above, on each page throughout the builder and remodeler sections.

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.

CGR Certified Graduate Remodelers is an exclusive professional designation program designed to increase a remodeler’s professional credibility by identifying those who demonstrate exceptional business integrity, competence, and a solid track record of consumer satisfaction.

GMB Graduate Master Builder is the highest professional designation awarded to builders. These courses are more advanced with in-depth instruction geared for experienced building professionals. This designation will enhance credibility as a reliable source of information.
