Thanks for picking up a copy of the May 2014 issue of Devon Music Magazine and the first of our Festival Specials. We’ll be rounding up the best of the UK festivals over the next three months, starting with some of the ‘big guns’ and our pick of the local events. Also this month we celebrate the welcome return of Klaxons who will be playing a couple of intimate west country shows in May, we chat to Dave McPherson of InMe fame and meet the Marmozets who, we have absolutely no doubt, will be a household name by 2015. We also catch up with Dani of Bury Tomorrow ahead of their Rabbit show and we ask some silly questions to Jack from Natives. We also bring news of the plight of the White Rabbit in Plymouth, the next classic venue to fall prey to developers, read on to find out more...

FEATURE

After taking some time out writing and recording their 3rd studio album, Klaxons are back! ‘HURRAH’ we hear you cry, and yes, so you should be excited, the band certainly are. Since forming in 2005 the London based ‘new rave indie rock’ band have collected a string of awards, including numerous Brit and NME awards, as well as the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Prize, and toured around the globe. Following a European stretch of dates in May they’ll be visiting a handful of small UK venues in towns and cities they may not have played in some years to promote the album release, giving their fans a rare opportunity to see them in much more intimate settings. We were excited to grab 10 minutes with vocalist and bassist Jamie Reynolds to ask him about the highly anticipated new album, and to find out about their clothes shopping habits…. Your new album comes out in June, what’s it called and what can we expect? The new album is called ‘Love Frequency’, and you can expect an electronic/dance twist. We worked with the incredible Errol Alkan (The Chemical Brothers and Gorgon City) to help us produce the album. It’s out on the 16th June and is basically our traditional sound, but in a dance remix format.

on a daily basis.

So, quite a step in a different direction from your last album ‘Surfing the Void’... Yeah, hugely. I think that before we were a solid performance group. This is more about the production, more about synths than being guitar based.

Will we be seeing you at any festivals this year? We’ve been announced for Reading & Leeds, and we’re playing a load of shows and festivals in Europe. We’re sure there’ll be something else announced in the near future but for now Reading & Leeds, and some exciting Euro festies.

What do you think the reaction from your fans will be? We don’t know. We’re making contemporary music, we’ll see what happens. From the live performance aspect everything has been pretty wild playing the new material. I think the new sits very well beside the old.

What’s your favourite stage (indoor venue or festival) to play? We’re playing intimate club shows again, which we love. It reminds us where we came from. We love playing huge festivals, but the small ones are also good. There’s no preference really.

You’re often dubbed as ‘new rave’, explain to us what that means... HAVING IT! The New Wave movement - we took away the ‘w’ and replaced it with an ‘r’. That’s it. We’re making exciting, colourful music and trying to inject some sun. You like to wear quite ‘lively’ outfits on stage, do you have your tour wardrobe picked out? Yeah and it REALLY smells. It’s horrific. We went to a Turkish wedding shop and picked the most outrageous outfits we could find in there. We look like we’re going to a shiny Turkish wedding

DEVON MUSIC | MAY 2014

What can we expect from this run of shows? Maybe an extra entertainment element. We’ve started talking between songs and making gags during the set, we’ve turned the show into entertainment. It’s just us being loud and exciting on stage.

Tell our readers in one sentence why they should come to the show in Plymouth? Because it’s a hot ticket, a chance to catch us in an intimate situation, in a smaller venue...and to have your ears blown off! WORDS MARRIANE HARRIS

Festival food is always an issue but apparently if we took all the burgers consumed at Reading festival last year (50,000 say the organisers) then it would take 167 cows to produce all the meat. if we assume 1.2million people visited a festival this year then roughly 690,000 burgers would be made and consumed. That’s 2,300 cows!!! Sorry veggies...

WHITE RABBIT | BRETONSIDE BUS STATION | PLYMOUTH | PL4 0BG

NEWS

We’re sure you’ve heard the rumours and rumblings about the White Rabbit in Plymouth closing down. Last month local news reported the potential closure of Bretonside bus station which houses numerous local businesses including Last Shop Standing, an independent record store and the White Rabbit, an independent music venue that hosts some of the biggest touring artists on the regional circuit alongside supporting local music for the south west. There was a huge outcry from the social media with many gig-goers and industry professionals voicing their support for this most favourite of venues. We decided we should have a chat with venue manager Dan James to find out exactly what’s going on and how we can help… So, many people are saying the ‘Rabbit is set to close down – but that’s not really the case is it? Can you explain exactly what’s happening? Yeah sure. No, the ‘Rabbit is NOT closing, don’t panic! We do face a bit of a hurdle to overcome though, in the fact that Plymouth City Council has unveiled plans to redevelop, and knock down Bretonside Bus Station, (where we currently operate) and turn it into a cinema complex, with shops and restaurants. This has been on the cards for as long as I can remember, and I knew it was potentially going to happen since the day I took on the lease. Bretonside has needed an overhaul for a LONG time now, and the people of Plymouth have asked the council to get it sorted, but they’ve never had the right plan, or the money to be able to do it. They’ve been offered a sum of cash for the station by ‘British Land’ who will be building the new complex, and the council will use the money it gets to move the Bus Station to a new site on Mayflower Street. We will be served our six months’ notice as soon as the deal is signed with them. As far as I am aware, if this all goes ahead, the council is aiming to aid the current traders down here in relocating to an appropriate spot elsewhere in the city. So, the Rabbit is well and wants to continue trading? Yes, we’re obviously all a little worried, but we’re still here carrying on and wondering what the future holds! We are, however, not scared of change. We agree that the station needs sorting out, and that Plymouth is a growing and improving city. This could all be a blessing in disguise if we really are given the help we feel is necessary and is fair. Hopefully the council has enough consideration for independent business and culture to preserve what we do here. We are still booking shows as normal and I’m currently looking at potential new premises just in case. If the building is demolished then, you’d move the ‘Rabbit and continue in an alternative venue? Yes. In our opinion, White Rabbit is more than the four walls in which it operates. It’s all about the people that come here, the artists we book, the staff that work here and the awesome atmosphere and memories we create together. We are all dedicated to keeping this alive in Plymouth and using our experience, enthusiasm and knowhow to keep contributing to, nurturing and maintaining the thriving music scene we are a part of. Having said that, finding a suitable venue in Plymouth isn’t going to be a piece of cake. Our current site in Bretonside is pretty perfect because we are far enough away from residential property as to not annoy anyone with sound. We have access and parking for big vans and tour buses and we’ve got things inside to the best they can be (considering what we have to work with) over a long period of time.

Devon MUSIC | MAY 2014

So that’s the minimum requirements we would need to meet. We’re staying positive and embrace the idea of a new project. Who knows... we could end up with something way better than we have now. We’ll do whatever it takes to keep this show on the road. Has there been a lot of support from the public so far? The support has been overwhelming, and we are truly humbled, and eternally grateful. On the day the news broke, someone (3rd party) set up a petition to our MP, Tudor Evans, which within a couple days had nearly 4000 signatures. The number is still growing every day. We also set up a Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ whiterabbittestimonials in an effort to gain some hard evidence that White Rabbit is, in fact, important to the local community, to Plymouth, the South-West and has a valid cultural impact and worth. We are amazed by the response! THOUSANDS of people joined, and we were presented with HUNDREDS of accounts of good times, memories, opinions and offers of help from people all over the world that have been through our doors in the last 10 years. From gig-goers, band members, DJ’s, promoters, booking agents, ex staff members and people who just support the idea of what we do. We were shown direct support from FRANK TURNER and STIFF LITTLE FINGERS as well. It has been amazing. Do you know when a decision will be made? Not yet. Everything is still very much up in the air. It’s an uneasy feeling. I have a meeting scheduled with Tudor Evans himself very soon, and will try and sell our mission to him. As soon as I know any information I will feed it to you guys through our social media. What shows have you got coming up that people can come and support? The best way to support your local live music venue is to attend the shows! You can get a full list of all of our upcoming events at www.facebook.com/rabbitgigs

with Jack Fairbrother - Guitarist What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to? Crystal Fighters at Reading Festival last year. Would you rather be a rubber duck in a bath full with 30 stone naked men, or be held captive naked on top of the tower of London? Rubber duck, I don’t like heights. Who would win in a fight a great white shark or a crocodile? Crocodile, he’d play dead and then when the shark is least expecting it… DEAD. What festivals are you playing this year? We’ve announced 2000 Trees and Slam Dunk, more to follow. Your first born is a girl but you can only name her Gladys or Mable, what name would you chose? Mable. There are 4 boxes, one has gold in, one has spiders in, one has the remains of a pheasant found on the M5 in and one has a Cadbury’s cream egg… what colour socks are you wearing? Black with little guitars on them. Who has the biggest feet in the band? Probably me, size 11.

Which one of you would make the best girl? Ash, it’s that silky blonde Swedish hair! How has the response been so far to your new album ‘Indoor War’? Unbelievable, the reviews have all been fantastic and the fans response makes the long wait worth it. Jimmy has 5 apples in his hands, Rebecca has 3 oranges in her hands, which one hasn’t washed their hands? Rebecca, no need with oranges until you peel them, she’s just picking them up. FEATURE South coast metalcore kings Bury Tomorrow are on the brink of releasing their 3rd studio album, have a run of UK and European dates coming up in May to support this new release, and a handful of high status festivals to play throughout the summer [Groezrock, Download, Resurrection], including headline slots at Impericon Festival and Slam Dunk. The new album ‘Runes’ is the follow up to the 2012 release ‘The Union of Crowns’, which received all round rave reviews from UK music press and firmly cemented them a place at the top of the underground UK music scene. Will this new album be the catalyst they need to catapult them into higher echelons of metal greatness? We’ll be amazed if it doesn’t, and we can’t wait to finally hear it! We managed to grab vocalist Dani for a quick chat about what their fans can expect from Runes, who he’d love to tour with most, and what he’d like you all to bring him on tour...

Bury Tomorrow’s new album ‘Runes’ is out on 26th May, what can fans expect from it? Pretty much they can expect Bury Tomorrow. It’s very metalcore. Our guitarist Dawson is highly influenced by old skool metalcore and that comes out a lot in the new album. We’ve kinda gone back to our roots with this one. It’s the album we wanted to make from the start. Yes, it’s different to The Union of Crowns, but we feel we had to do Union to cement our place in the scene, and get to this point. Runes is probably a mixture of both, with some influences from bands like Killswitch, As I Lay Dying and Still Remains. What do you hope its release will ultimately achieve for the band? We’re always trying to get to the next level, to impress people, our fans. We hope it surprises us with the response it gets ‘Holy crap this is awesome’ type responses like Union got. We hope people get us and like it. That’s all you can wish for when you’re in a band releasing new music. Flying the flag for British metalcore is how we see ourselves and how we want others to see us. Are there any surprises on it? I’d say it’s more riffy, very guitar orientated, as metalcore is anyway, a lot faster too, but generally just ‘us’. It would be a bit weird if we’d written an album that’s not ‘us’. It’s not a huge step away from the traditional Bury Tomorrow sound, more an embrace of what Bury Tomorrow has always been about. You can go on tour with ANY band, who would that be and why? I’m a HUGE Killswitch Engage fan and would love to tour with them but hmmm let’s say Slipknot. Yes, Slipknot. A tour with Slipknot in the US would be amazing. No actually, worldwide. A worldwide tour with Slipknot. They’re my favourite band, and they’re at the top of their game. Plus they’re crazy b*stards. Would love to just hang out and talk with Corey Taylor. What’s the best/worst thing about touring? The best thing is meeting people. You just meet sooo many different people. Also it’s fun to see what people’s take on your band is wherever you go. It’s cool to see the balance between those who come because they like the riffs and those because they’re really into our lyrics. The worst thing is getting sick on tour. I was sick on this last tour, it sucks. Touring is really hard on your body. Other than that there aren’t many downsides. Missing home, and missing all the little important events that happen, like weddings and births, things going on with friends, that sucks, but you have to look at it as a job. When you’re professionally touring that’s what it is, a job.

Devon MUSIC | MAY 2014

Some bands ask their fans to bring them things when they’re on tour, what would you ask your fans to bring you? Probably sweets, or just nice food generally. I have pretty much everything I want when we’re on tour, but sometimes you crave sweets. Or [pause] when I’m rich maybe I’d get fans to bring me a puppy, so eventually I’d have lots of dogs I could look after. Maybe a different breed every day..? What are your personal pet hates? I hate it when people eat with their mouth open! It’s just not polite. Even if it’s just a little bit I hate it, I want to kill them! haha. How do you feel about missed opportunities? Have there been many? Do you sit and think ‘ahhh why didn’t we do that?’ Our band, like many, has made decisions at some point that we may wish we hadn’t, and there are always opportunities that maybe didn’t quite come our way or that were missed. We nearly split up at one point, and there are always ‘what ifs’ whatever you decide. Through it all though we stand by everything we do. We see our peers doing well, and we’re incredibly proud of what they achieve even if we might also think ‘ahh, wish it was us doing that’. At the end of the day we have to be proud of the decisions we make and every band should be happy for every other band’s success and the opportunities they are given. Which UK bands out there right now would you recommend people check out? Landscapes for sure, I like them a lot right now. Also bands like Malevolence, Demoraliser, Napoleon - bands that are doing okay for themselves right now but who next year are going to go next level and become formidable bands in the UK scene. You’re playing The White Rabbit as part of your album release tour in May, tell us why people should come to this show as well as others on the tour. We think it’ll be money well spent. Everyone has a good time and goes home happy. This tour is a celebration of ‘Runes’ there’ll be a nice mix of new and old material, and all the dates are pretty intimate. They’re the smallest shows we’ll be doing in a while. Also it’s about supporting your local scenes and venues - going to shows to help ensure that more don’t have to shut down.

previews MARMOZETS

Female fronted alt-rock

Although the average age of the Yorkshire-born quintet is enough to make anyone in their mid-20s weep, what Marzmozets lack in years, they more than make up for in their music. Their sound mixes heavy and lighter flourishes in an expert manner, taking a well-used formula and shaking it up. They show a genuine understanding of structure, showmanship and style, which makes them a great band to witness live. They also like to get the crowd involved with their frankly frenzied shows, so be prepared for the oodles of energy that is required to keep up with them.

KLAXONS

Electro-Indie that we know and love

Over the last few years, Klaxons have somewhat fallen off the musical radar. Their debut rocketed them to the moon of fame, with them being awarded the Mercury Music Prize in 2007, but since then, you’d be forgiven if you thought that the Klaxons were all klaxoned out. However, with their third album on the horizon, the band who expertly blend indie and electro in a marvellous musical milkshake are back, and they mean business. Expect high energy, effervescence and euphoria in a show that is sure to get you dancing.

Formally known as the pop-rock outfit Not Advised, Natives changed their name to allow themselves to branch out and try new things. And with this new name, comes new music that is genuinely exciting. Keeping true to their roots, their new sound is upbeat, fun and incredibly danceable, but there’s little nuances to their sound that scream of maturity. The vocals are as clean-cut and smooth as the boyish face who sings them and their latest record shows that guitar, bass and drums do not have to sound like everyone else. Their live show is confident, crisp and crazily fun, miss this at your peril.

This singer-songwriter from Oxford is on his 4th EP and has landed himself a record deal with Warner Bros., an impressive accolade for a lad who’s been playing guitar for just 6 years. He got a guitar or his 16th birthday and has since taught himself how to play, how to write songs, and how to do both with a sound that is more mature than his years. His voice is Sheeran-esque in the most complimentary way, although his sound is perhaps a little more melancholy and macabre. His records are beautiful in its simplicity.

Forceful metal with a bite – it does what it says on the tin! As behemonths of thrash metal, you will no doubt have heard of Dragonforce. Sometimes called ‘Nintendo metal’ their music takes influence from many of the 90s consoles and games, with arpeggios sounding almost ‘bleepy’, like the Mario Bros theme tune. With impossibly hard melodies, their track ‘Through the Fire and Flames’ has become widely perceived as one of the most difficult on the GuitarHero franchise – would you really want to miss this face-meltingly awesome track played in person?

FEATURE

With pounding guitars, pulsing drums and the vocals of Becca MacIntyre cutting through the mix like frost, Marmozets are a band whose particular brand of rock is turning heads for all the right reasons. At first listen, they sound a lot like Billy Talent with a female vocalist, which is no bad thing – it’s angry, aggressive, alternative rock at its best. But don’t just take my word for it. Marmozets have been hotly tipped by the likes of Zane Lowe and by the moguls at Kerrang! who nominated them for Best British Newcomer in 2013. And luckily for us, the punky quintet are gracing the west with an appearance at Exeter’s The Cavern on May 7th. Devon Music’s Hayley Taulbut caught up with their vocalist and guitarist Sam McIntyre to talk bassoons, beats and blistering live performances. Firstly, how are you guys feeling about the upcoming tour? We’re extremely excited, we love doing headline shows. It’s weird, you somehow feel like you have more ownership over a performance when it’s your tour, so we’re really looking forward to showing people what we can do. As a band formed of two sets of siblings, how do you think this affects the dynamic of the group? Does it make a difference? Yeah it definitely makes a difference. We’re extremely close as a band and it makes the whole thing a bit tighter. When you’re in a band with your mates, it’s sometimes hard to be honest with each other but that’s not the case with us. It’s really important for us to be upfront and honest, and being so close means we are able to do that. We can also help each other out and support each other, so it works really well. To date, you’ve had a pretty successful career, sharing the stage with many well-known acts and playing many large UK festivals. Who or what has been the highlight and why? Oh, that’s a tough one. There’s no-one who stands out massively, because we’re still kinda starting out. Cancer Bats was pretty cool. There’s loads that it’s been a privilege to share a stage with, but nothing that makes me go ‘Oh my god, that was incredible’. Though I’d love to support Foo Fighters on a tour, that’d be cool. What would you be doing now if you weren’t in Marmozets? In all honestly, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I suppose it would have to be something music based. I used to work for a charity which was pretty cool, but it wasn’t what I aspired to be. We decided at a pretty young age that this was what we wanted to do, we made a pact and decided that we were going to go for it, so we’ve not had much of a chance to pursue other careers. Though I’d quite like to do something with extreme sports, like parachuting or stuff like that, but I’d never actually go through with it! I’m not that brave!

Devon MUSIC | MAY 2014

With the new album being released imminently, what can we expect from that record? It’s coming around September time which is quite a long way off, but there’s loads of production stuff to do between now and then. We wanted to get it completed sooner so that people could hear it before the summer. But anyway, it’s a completely new vibe with this new record. Our music is always very different from album to album, and this time I feel like we’ve gone the extra mile with it. We thought really hard how we wanted it to sound and it ended up being a quite mature sound. It is honestly the best thing we have done – we were surprised by how good it was, especially because we ended up scrapping a lot of it. But yeah, new vibes, techy beats, a good sound. If you had to incorporate one classical instrument into a record, what would it be and why? I could be really generic and say violin, but that’s kinda lame isn’t it? [laughs] Um.. I know, probably a bassoon. Has anyone ever done that before? Why not us? We’d be the first rock group to use a bassoon on their record! I tell you what, we promise that it’ll be on our second album! Finally, what can we expect from your live show at The Cavern? What epitomises your style? Basically, expect new songs and better vibes. We like having a good time and we like to get pretty intimate with the crowd. We feel like we are taking a big risk as we’re not going to play lots of our old stuff, but I wouldn’t want to see a band who played the same stuff again and again. Plus, the new stuff blows the old stuff completely out of the water. So expect new music – we’re really looking forward to people hearing it! WORDS MARIANNE HARRIS

InMe managed to build themselves a great following when they emerged back in the noughties as little more than teenagers. Standing apart from the nu-metal crowds they produced angsty alt-metal and for a time were one of the UK’s biggest alternative offerings. Still held aloft by fiercely loyal fans over 10 years later they’ve weathered the years whilst many of their contemporaries have fallen by the wayside. They’ve been every which way through the struggles of musicianship and are still one of the most genuinely exciting bands on the circuit. These guys truly are the godfathers of British alt-rock and we were lucky enough to grab a few minutes with frontman Dave McPherson recently to talk pledges, albums and long walks in the countryside…. You’ve essentially grown up in the music biz, and many of your fans have grown up alongside you – that must create a pretty special bond with InMe fans… It definitely feels special. In the early days it was kinda strange sometimes as people treated us like we were megastars at shows, like screaming & crying etc! These days it just feels like a huge bunch of mates. Our audience are a really sweet, appreciative bunch and I feel super lucky that they’ve stuck with us. How has your sound changed since you broke out in the noughties? Naturally really. We always approach new albums from a different angle consciously and subconsciously. Overgrown Eden was written when we were teenagers so a hell of a lot has changed in many ways since then. I feel our songwriting and technical ability is loads stronger these days and lyrically and vocally what I sing about is a lot more focused. Hopefully there’s a new album on its way. How has the Pledge campaign gone? It’s been a slow burner but we have 3 weeks left and it’s currently at 64% so I’m quietly confident people are just keeping us on our toes! The new EP has been recorded and I’m really proud of it. Each song stands alone, big melodic anthems. What do you think of the pledging system and how it’s enabling bands? Well for us as an independent band without label support it’s a lifesaver really. It’s essentially a pre-order but we put 110% into making sure pledgers get rewarded for basically allowing for our music to still be heard to the level we want. With the conventional route it’s incredibly hard for smaller bands on a financial level whereas Pledge has enabled us to still record in a quality studio, afford a press agent, manufacturing, touring, music videos etc. We don’t make money from this band but it’s amazing we can still be a band outside of just a rehearsal studio. What can we expect from the album? Massive riffs and leads, huge melodies, high intensity and 4 songs that are all completely different to each other. It’s my favourite InMe material, although as always I’m biased! Will we be seeing InMe on the festival circuit this summer? I truly hope so but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Devon MUSIC | MAY 2014

You keep yourself pretty busy with your solo stuff, new band Centiment and of course InMe, what do you like to do when you have time off? I’m a bit of a walker really. I constantly wander off on my own around woodland and countryside walks etc. I love hanging out with my girlfriend and friends but I enjoy being a bit of a loner sometimes too so a nice walk with a couple of decent pub stops gives me time to think about music and lyrics or simply chill and switch off. I’m also a film addict, love travel and holidays (when I can) plus curry. Curry brings it all together nicely. What’s it like working so closely with your brother all the time? We suppose you must all feel like brothers to some extent! We can wind each other up like most brothers but mostly we work very well together and enjoy hanging out and ripping the shit out of each other! Greg’s an amazing musician too so it’s inspiring to work with people like that and bounce off each other’s ideas. What can we expect from the live show this time round? We’re just happy to be back on stage mainly! We’ll be discussing the setlist this weekend but it’ll be a nice mix of old and new plus some songs we’ve never tried hopefully and some massive singalongs. That and a hell of a lot of throwing ourselves around. What’s your favourite thing about touring? The show is my favourite thing. Other than that I love the chill time, love being with my mates, love seeing new places and meeting new people. And of course, the beer. Who are your ‘Ones to Watch’ at the moment? Which bands should we be checking out? Hey Vanity. I say it all the time but not just ‘cause they’re my mates, they’re also a ridiculously good band and deserve to be massive. And finally, have you got any advice for bands just starting out? Create music that you want to hear, not a particular scene. Don’t compromise your music. Don’t expect to get rich or even earn a living to be honest. Do it because you love the music and that moment on stage. Don’t do it for girls! WORDS ZAN LAWTHER

ones to watch Have you got any festivals lined up this summer? We have some festivals in the pipeline. I’m not sure if they’ve been announced yet, so I’m not sure if I can say, but definitely be on the lookout for us this summer. You released your debut EP last month, how’s that going? It’s going really well. I’m quite surprised at how good the response has been. The reviews we’ve had back have been pretty positive and people seem to be enjoying it, which is more than I could ever ask for. Where did you record it? Formed in 2013, Patrons come from a city by the sea in the South West, UK. Born out of longstanding friendships and a common love of the unconventional, Patrons make a noise that gives a nod to the expanse of bands like This Will Destroy You and Thrice, yet also a tip of the hat to the stop-start rhythms of bands like Reuben and La Dispute. Having always been inspired by the attitude of the DIY scene, they pass on gimmicks and clichés. Instead, Patrons deliver a refreshingly pure musical experience to anyone willing to listen. Having released their debut self-titled EP via “I Hate It Records” at the end of March 2014, the band now have tour dates scheduled throughout May and June in the UK alongside some soon to be announced festival dates throughout the summer. We caught up with frontman Danny to find out more….. Hi, who are you and who does what in your band? Hi, my name is Danny, I sing and play guitar. Mark plays guitar, Olly plays bass and Corby plays drums. If you had to describe your sound in three words what would they be?

We recorded it with James Bragg at Middle Farm Studios near Newton Abbot. James is a great engineer and a lovely guy too. It’s a great place to record. You’re out on this beautiful farm in the middle of nowhere, great place to focus. The video for ‘Little Victories’ debuted on Punktastic recently too, how did that feel? It was great. We’ve been following Punktastic for a long time, and to have them premier our video was really cool. Can’t thank them enough. Did you have fun making the video? It was a lot of fun. For something that at first seemed like such a simple idea, it actually took a lot of effort to pull off. We filmed over 2 days and I went through a pair of shoes walking to all the different locations. But yeah it was rad. Who do you guys like to listen to when you’re on the road? We all have quite different tastes in music, but I think some of the bands we all have been listening to recently are La Dispute, Thrice, Manchester Orchestra and Oceansize. What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Guitar orientated feelzies

That’s a tough one. The first one that comes to mind is the first time I saw Reuben. They were supporting Billy Talent at the Astoria, and I don’t know how, but I had never heard of them. That was a crucial moment in my life. Special band.

How did you guys meet?

Tell us why we should come check out your show….

We have all been good friends for a while now. We first met back in school and we have been playing music together ever since.

We love what we do and we would be honoured if you could join us.

You’re on tour this month, are they all places you’ve played before or are there any wild cards? A few places we’ve played before, but most we haven’t. We’re playing the Alternative Escape in Brighton, that’s going to be awesome. Are you excited? I can’t wait. I love going to new places, playing to new crowds and meeting new people. We are touring with Black Foxxes who are really great too, so yeah, looking forward to it.
