SB6 are a group in the tradition of UK punk bands such as The Specials, The Clash and King Prawn that push the musical envelope by mixing contemporary underground sounds of the UK with a rocking live show and educational lyrics. They come to Bournemouth on the 24th November to play The Anvil.

You’ve been one of the busiest touring bands for a long time now, what’s your most memorable show? There are so many. We’re quite easily pleased so as long as the crowd are enjoying it then so are we. This year, Camden Rocks was brilliant. It was at Dingwalls, a venue we’ve never played in before and they had to stop letting people in cos it was so rammed. Proper sweaty too!

Your music is a genre melting pot taking elements from rock, ska, metal, hip-hop and even drum and bass, can you give us an insight to your songwriting process? Our songwriting process has changed over the years. It used to mainly be Barney and our old guitarist Ben who would come in with an idea and then we’d all work on it. Now, it’s a little different. We all chip in with various ideas and work around that. It helps with having programs like GarageBand cos we can record ideas and send them to each other.

You have always included social commentary in your songs, do you feel it’s important, especially in today’s charged political climate, that artists use their platform to create awareness for what they believe in? If that’s what the artist wants to do then yes. I’m not one for soapbox politics, that’s why we keep our politics in the lyrics and keep it fun and party at the shows. If people take the lyrics away from that then that’s a bonus.

With that in mind, what do you look for in an ideal support band? Honestly, a band who can warm up the crowd. Someone friendly and fun. It’s not about how they sound cos our crowd is generally open minded.

Has being politically charged ever caused you any problems? Not that I’m aware of… We have the fascists who pipe up on YouTube when we release a new video but that’s the Internet for you.

Rebel alliance records first bought the skints to our attention who have gone on to great success and you’ve always been known to help upcoming bands, are there any we should be keeping an eye on at the moment? Petrol Girls supported us at our last London gig and they were amazing. Super heavy with lots to say. You’ve got five full albums to your name, will we see many blasts from the past at The Anvil, or will you aim to keep it quite fresh – or even any sneak previews of new material? It will be 50% old school and 50% new. We don’t need to indulge our egos by keeping it all new!

You can get any artist you want to feature in your next song, who do you get in and what would you have them to do? A re-recording of ‘For The Kids Of The Multiculture’ or ‘No Man, No Right’ with Donald Trump on guest vocals, a classy guy! What’s the best part about being on the road and touring? Being with mates, having a laugh and being able to play the songs we have recorded live. And the worst? Overnight drives!

What do you think Bournemouth has in store for you – any unfinished business or fond memories here? I think we had a cracking fish and chips when we were there last. Would definitely like that again!

In closing, make your case to our readers,, why they should come on the 24th November to see you at The Anvil? We bring the bounce.

Being from Manchester but living in London, can you confirm or deny that the north-south divide exists when it comes to music? There’s a lot more happening in London, but I can’t really say from a music perspective. In general, there’s definitely a north/south divide. No one in Manchester would try to impersonate someone from the south yet the south has a habit of doing a “Coronation Street” accent as an icebreaker!

RETINA

Brand new club opens in Weymouth I had the pleasure of being invited by Phil from Basement Records to support their headline act SERIAL KILLAZ and have a look around. First thing I noticed was how polite the security were, which is a rarity, then I was struck by the misleading size of the venue, it’s much bigger than it first seems. You walk into the main room to find a decent sized bar stocked with a good selection of cheap drinks and helpful staff. The dancefloor is situated bang in front of the decks and control tower, which was totally packed out all night. There is loads of out of the way seating, a smaller raised dancefloor nearer the entrance and upstairs you find a balcony with more hidden seating, a second small room and another bar. Plenty of potential here and some of the friendliest ravers and artists I’ve met in the UK, let alone Dorset. My set was very well received and with the first month’s October line up consisting of heavy weights like Wilkinson, Subzero, Serial Killaz, Macky Gee, Harry Shotta, Micky Finn, Logan D and the godly LTJ Bukem, there are also rumours of an even heavier line up in store for every weekend of next month.... If you are a Junglist or DnB head I strongly recommend you check out club RETINA. Written by DJ D-tox from Box Fulla Records Picture credit Liam Brook (cover photo - Paul Malin)

www.rock-regeneration.co.uk Jackstock - 20th November, Barrington Theatre Ferndown - 7pm Blandford man Jack Sims was mountain biking with friends in the French Alps when he suffered a serious fall. The fall resulted in life changing injuries with Jack being hospitalised at Salisbury Hospital Spinal Unit. Jack is staying very positive about his future and he is proving to be an inspiration for others with similar injuries. He is very lucky to have a huge amount of passionate support from his direct family and his girlfriend Aimee who visits him every day and spends as much time with him as possible. Through Jack’s positive approach he has shown he will never give up his hope for a recovery. He is now starting a rehabilitation program that first will see him getting out of his hospital bed and in a wheelchair. Local musician Andy Rose of Bournemouth band Southern Brotherhood is very close to Jack who’s his daughter’s boyfriend of 5 years and thought up the idea of “Jackstock” a concert to raise much needed funds for Jack’s rehabilitation program, currently he has several months of this program ahead of him but Jack is determined to attend JACKSTOCK in person! The event features a mouth-watering selection of local acts all who have agreed to perform for free. The event is situated at the modern Barrington Theatre in Ferndown, just behind Tesco’s and has plenty of parking within easy walking distance. The line-up features two exciting electric bands Mikey Ball and the company, Southern Brotherhood along with two acoustic solo artists Matt JR Hurley and Jamie Lacey. There has already been such overwhelming support for a fundraising effort for this young man that the original crowdfunding target, set up by his work colleagues, has increased from £1,000 to more than £13,000 in just 4 weeks.
